"I wasn't a dreamer I was a believer"
-Jimmy Johnson
To me the best part of his speech, "I did not dream they could do it, I BELIEVED" cant imagine as a player or coach the feeling of somone truly believing you can be better.
i rewatched that segment 3 times now
“Treat a man as he is, and he will remain as he is. Treat a man as he could be, and he will become what he should be.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
That statement is correct. Jimmy did just that. His players can attest to that. After his Cowboys won their first SB he was much tougher on them. It was hard enough to win one but to repeat is even harder. He treated them knowing there was more to them. They could get better. Thank you Jimmy for your years of coaching and sacrifices.
That was one of my favorite parts! I loved that.
You can see why the guys that he coached would run through a brick wall for him. He's just inspiring and can fire you up to do anything. Well done Jimmy!
They loved him and it's evident by the way they looked at him during his speech. It's like they still have that respect and admiration for him. The man commands respect
They loved him, but feared him at the same time. None of the players wanted Jimmy to yell at them so they just did whatever he said. That's actually been documented. What most people don't know is that Jimmy was wound tighter than an 8 day clock back then and he was under an enormous amount of pressure. His drinking habits thrown in and you got a recipe for problems. It was the straw that broke the camel's back. I loved Jimmy and wish things had gone differently. Glad to see he's finally getting his due.
fredfukkinbear kikkinnigass
It's true and it's a rare quality to have.
To chew someone out but they still respect you in a good way.
Fear and admire you.
He treated the great players differently. Sure he would push them to give their best, but he wasn’t giving Emmitt Smith an ass chewing because it wasn’t necessary.
So glad to see him and Jerry have mended the fence. And, Jerry will put him in the Ring of Honor this year.
Greatest motivator I have ever heard. And i only have 1 thing left to say: " How bout em Cowboys" Thank U Jimmy.
..YOU ever heard. exactly.
but hey, he is good
@@TJAvant95 3 titles don't lie
@@jamesgordon6483 ur a goofball.
@@briandavidson1946 he must have been one of those inner city's kids who didn't go to college so he mad
@@jamesgordon6483 laugh out loud dude I agree.
Enduring that 1-15 season drove Jimmy to fix the Cowboys like no one had ever overhauled a team before. Jimmy was one of the greatest team builders that ever coached/GM. Once he acquired the talent, he transformed the team into champions.
I am a huge Cowboys fan there ever was since 1972! I love Jimmy and I don't dislike Jerry, but they were 1-15 it was like these 2 clowns don't know what they are doing. That Herschel Walker Trade set them on there way to greatness if that didn't happen would jimmy and Jerry ever even be here in the Hall of Fame? that was the great train robbery if I ever seen one, Jimmy you should have giving a huge thanks to Minnesota in that speech.
@@jamesvolpe3581 good points. If they go close to .500 that first year, I don’t know that they react so aggressively in churning the roster. Without all of those high picks, the transformation does not happen as quickly.
Coach of the Year 1990
@@jamesvolpe3581 man, I was pissed about the Landry firing and the Hershel trade, my whole family was. But, uh yeah, we weren't pissed for long
@@jamesvolpe3581 BUT if they didn't evaluate the talent properly (anyone believe the damn Jets would do that?) It's what you do with it
Darren Woodson yasssssss!!!!
He'll be there in time unfortunately it's probably thirty years from now the way the NFL Hall of Fame Works they really need to fix things quickly around there
Jimmy should've had 10 more seasons with the Cowboys. He would've won 5 super bowls. And I bleed black and gold.
From a Cowboys fan I want to say thank you Steelers fan, you were right we probably would have done something like the Steelers of the 70s, perhaps maybe won 4 or 5 in a seven-year period or something like that. It drives us crazy even to this day not knowing what it could have been.
Jimmy What a legendary coach
And lovely man
Would have had 5 Super Bowls
Respect

A Steeler Fanatic
I agree completely but you should have that looked at.
Maybe it's the covid. :)
I'm silver and black. I agree. However I wish he was a Raider.
Black and gold means Pittsburg?
'We will win the ball game and you can put that in three-inch headlines."
The boldest prediction in history!

How bout dem COWBOYS
His enshrinement is long overdue, but I’m glad he finally made it. Congratulations, Coach!!!
No it isn’t. It’s right on time.
You mean Tom Flores was over fucken due.
@@eliasmd2003able exactly. why did it take so long to admit flores and johnson into the HOF?
Jimmy Johnson is a hero and a champion.
College and Pro as head Coach not to many head coaches can wear that title
Hero???
at every level
As a Cowboys fan for nearly 50 years I've been waiting for this ever since Jimmy left Dallas. He was a difference-maker and that's the kind of people that need to be in the Hall of Fame. He speaks to everybody here on the human element in believing in yourself. Well done Jimmy, congratulations
Fan since 1975.
Wish Al Davis brought him to the Dark side.
Never been a Cowboys fan but I always loved and respected Jimmy Johnson. He’s a born leader and just has an element of humble confidence and belief in the mission that infects everyone around him with positive momentum. A special coach and an even better human being. Congrats.
@@briandavidson1946 Great! I went to my first game at the Cotton Bowl in 1963, We played the Browns I was 9. I love my Cowboys!
As a Giants fan from birth, this is so well deserved.
The speech epitomizes what a great coach should be; it wasn't me, it was all the people around me. The players and assistant coaches.
Same!
Eagles and Niners fan here. Still Happy to see him get this award. It was long overdue.
78 years old and it’s better late than never. Congratulations Jimmy Johnson!
We as Cowboys fans have one more to go for you Jimmy Johnson, the Cowboys Ring of Honor.
Well Deserved and much Respect. Congradulations JJ.
I need them to announce which game so I can buy tickets… I was at the game when the triplets went in the ring of honor and will be there when Jimmy goes!
He should tell Jerry Jones to shove that ring of honor up his ass.
Jerry said he was going in, he better make sure it happens sooner rather than later!! I loved how the Fox Sports guys were in Jerry's face about it!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Jimmy deserves all his kudos!!!
@@baseball4life1403 you obviously haven't listened to Jimmy Johnson's own comments. If it wasn't for Jerry, this wouldn't have happened. It took both Jerry and Jimmy to make all the success the Cowboys had in the 90s. Jerry doesn't do it without Jimmy and Jimmy doesn't do it without Jerry. And Jimmy didn't really want to stay and coach the Cowboys. He has clearly stated Jerry doesn't deserve all the blame for the split. Jimmy Johnson is a class act.
Finally Zach Thomas getting his recognition. Get the man in the Hall.
Zach was an amazing LB. Jimmy knew what he was getting when he drafted him from TT. He should be in Canton.
Darren Woodson as well.
He finally got in
You heard him say it. Put Woodson in the HOF!
Yup
I went to the same high school as Woodson.
best coach to ever be at the hurricanes... thank you jimmy👑
I agree. This guy would done for the Hurricanes had he stayed what Nick Saban is doing now(minus all the cheating & NCAA backing)
'Canes have been blessed with fantastic coaches, he had no problem following legends
Absolutely inspiring speech by Coach Johnson. Instead of talking about himself he made it about the other Coaches/players that made him a HOF Coach. Pure class. Congrats JJ! It's all about the U!!
All cowboys fans should be happy because it's one step towards putting him also in the ring of honor which also means they can win a Superbowl now
It’s probably omen that the cowboys won’t win another one until Jerry makes things right and puts him in the ring of honor
Jerry officially announced that Jimmy is going into the ROH.
@Steven Seth this is why everyone hates you guys. Sincerely from a Giants fan
Jimmy Curse Was A Nightmare...Jerry Knows It Now And Will Rectify It!!
Facts
Nicely Said! I agree that Zach Thomas belongs in the Hall of Fame! He was just as important as Jason Taylor on that Miami Defense back in the day. It was a joy to watch him play every Sunday. One of the best Linebackers to ever play the game! Watch the film folks! #54
He was undersized for a linebacker, but worked his ass off to be one of the best.
Now this is a speech. He gave it up to those who helped him get him there.
Congratulation Jimmy Johnson head coach of Dallas Cowboys you deserve inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame greatest team of the early 90s 2 Super Bowl championship 1992 and 1993 how about them Cowboys 🏈
Why'd it take so long it what I'm asking? Jerry? They were the architects of the last Dynasty before The Pats
Jimmy Johnson makes me want to suit up!!
I have been a cowboy fan since 1975, and I’m now 51! I live in the heart of Wisconsin, this is so well deserved! What a humble man! The best coach in Dallas right along side Tom Landry! Now to be in the cowboy ring of honor is the icing on the cake! Congratulations to you Jimmy’s Johnson!!!! So long over due!!!
Always loved Jimmy’s attitude. You can see how the players gravitate towards him…still
After his 1-15 season I wrote Jimmy a letter telling how things were going to get better fast and told him to stick to his plan.
I was shocked a week later when I got a big package from the Dallas Cowboys office.
Jimmy wrote me a great letter, along with a stack of pictures of the team, the cheerleaders, and a big picture of himself with his hand written words "Luck is when preparation meets opportunity"
I really appreciate him taking the time to do that.
It's about time... And his speech, like his accomplishments in the NFL and CFB, indelible as usual. Amazing man...
I hate the Cowboys, but THIS as well as Drew Pearson were overdue. I really enjoy the speeches from these legends of the game. People still respect the style that Johnson brought to coaching...people still seek this man out for advice. That is truly awesome.
If only Jimmy could be put in the ring of honor
Congratulations, Coach Johnson
Not a Cowboys fan at all. Niners all the way. With that said he deserved it. Congrats coach!
When was the last time a Dallas Cowboys coach said that? We may never hear that again.
Spartan265. Much Respect.
Yeah son! Bang bang 9er gang
I wish Al Davis hired him. Los Angeles and Oakland would've been a lot of fun to watch.
He sure did, we had no business beating you guys in '92 we weren't ready to beat a vet team like San Fran, but jimmy attitude had the players truly believing they were the better team. In '93 in the cowboys were the better team no doubt and it's bc jimmy build a hell of a squad.
Jimmy Johnson could spot TALENT like no other. How bout them Cowboys.
We love you Jimmy.

Always
Had Jimmy stayed around we would be calling Troy the Goat!
Na...
Jerry Jones Ego would not let that happen
Aikman was always my favorite player, but honestly that offense ran through Emmitt. They couldn’t win without #22.
@@Supermanfan99 oh my yes Emmitt, Darrel and that O-line were superb. Jimmy has a great eye for talent. He is as good a coach if not better than Belichick.
Emmitt was still pretty darn good until 2000. I don’t see them losing in 1995 playoffs against San Fran. Emmitt was all pro or a pro bowl selection through 99. 93-99 whew….. oh well fun to think about
@@Supermanfan99 that's true but that was just the way they ran that offense but don't forget Troy was the number 1 overall pick. He had the talent to work in any offense.

He's damn right about Zach Thomas
Absolutely.
Jimmy Johnson you came from HS, College, & NFL. You’re truly one of kind. I wish I could’ve played for you. Congratulations on HOF.. well earned
As a 12yr old kid watching your team win superbowls you don't realize what you're witnessing before your eyes.
It isn't till your man of 39 you comprehend how special he (Jimmy) was and still is. It gives you that much more appreciation of his accomplishment and that of the team. Watching his speech I reverted back to being 12 and watching with anticipation coach Jimmy. The joy of my childhood relived 10x.

About freaking time he got inducted.
Greatest coach the Cowboys ever had...yeah I said it.

My heart feels so good now that one of the most beloved and favorite coach in Jimmy Johnson has finally made it to the Hall. I never had the opportunity to watch the great Tom Laundry coach my favorite team the Cowboys. So, Jimmy Johnson is who I grew up watching. That hair, is just priceless. Congrats, Coach well deserved and long overdue
Jimmy and pat Riley can be 100 and their hair will be tight
One of the last of a dying breed.
He didn’t care who you were, where you came from, your name , nothing.
He treated everyone as the same, and got the respect for it.
He will go down as one of the best “Motivators “ and coaches, of all time.
And he’s a Port Arthur boy !!!
Congratulations Jimmy !!!!!!!
this man is underrated
Congratulations Coach Johnson! Thank You for everything you accomplished as the Head Coach of the Cowboys!
awesome speech, not just about football but about life QTL (quality time left) is awesome words of wisdom
It is a Hall of Fame induction well deserved. Congratulations Jimmy Johnson!!!
So glad he mentioned Zach Thomas. It's a damn tragedy he isn't already in the HOF. He was a better and more impactful LB than Brian Urlacher and no one will convince me otherwise.
Zack "No Neck" Thomas. Dude was a tackling machine. One of the best Mikes I've ever seen. Jessie Tuggle is my favorite. Of course, I'm an Atlanta native. He's another, who should be a HOFer.
Jimmy Johnson is one of the all time greats. I went to The U for undergrad and law school when Jimmy was the coach. He made us all proud then and now!!
God bless Jimmy Johnson and welcome to the football Hall of Fame amen September 6th 2021
High expectations, professional execution. results. Legend.
"My two sons played football, I never saw em play a down..." That's pretty brutal.
I loved that inner city comment from Coach Johnson much respect too you
He built players on hard work and discipline. I knew he would be a great coach. I was so sorry to see him leave Dallas. He is a truly special person.
So glad to see him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame
Here's to Jimmy Johnson having decades more of "QTL"
It's why Jimmy is so emotional and a bit tongue tied. He knows that hes getting old and he wants to embrace every good person and moment in life before it's too late. Hes human. He scared of dying and knows hes doesn't have another 50 years. His behavior has changed. Great guy, great coach, and well deserved!
Amen
Amen to ythat!
@@joesphcatalano1473 thats why he said to Jerry , 'while I'm still alive !' in response to the ring of honor
When he was the coach the Cowboys actually deserved the attention they got unlike now. Congrats.
All you gotta do is stop watching them. The second the Cowboys aren’t the highest rated team in football they will not be talked about as much. That’s on ALL you haters.
A True Cowboy Legend Long Overdue But I’m Glad They Did It Before It Was To Late🥺
Congrats Jimmy💙
Wow, class act. Zach Thomas needs to be up here👏🏾
This is at least a decade overdue!!!
Congratulations, Coach 🏆
One big omission from the people he thanked:
"I'd like to thank Mike Lynn and the Minnesota Vikings for the Herschel Walker trade . . . "
Always hated Jimmy because without him, my Niners probably have another 2 SB rings. This guy did an amazing job bringing that franchise back to life. He earned this.
Well Bill Walsh cost the Cowboys a SB ring in 81. And the 49ers got their revenge on Jimmy’s players in ‘94.
@@Phil-ui4tm Joe Montana to Dwight Clark=The catch
@@Phil-ui4tm seems like our franchises have routinely brought the best out of each other. Those mid 90s Cowboys and Niners teams were so good the league had to change the rules so other teams could compete.
@@MegaSammy70, I remember watching that game as a kid,. The dynasty torch was passed that day. Then it appeared Cowboys took it back in ‘92. Though SF wasn’t done yet.
@@timothybrown5999, Jerry Jones was, ironically, one of the biggest proponents of the salary cap. He was always more interested in making money than winning championships. But I think the NFL is the only of the big 3 sports leagues where the small markets can compete consistently.

What an awesome speech! This man really loves coaching! Used some of his speech time to give us all a good coaching we sorely need in life. My childhood hero. I've witness the dynasty with my very own 2 eyes at the ol Texas Stadium. Great memories with my family and with my pops. About DAMN TIME he is in the HoF! Long over due!

This is just my opinion.....but I believe he is hands down the best coach in football ever
I firmly believe the same thing you do. First coach to win a National Championship (Was robbed of one & should have won 4 total) & two Super Bowls (three if you count the Proxy win he had against the Steelers.)
This moved the needle and got Zach in. Congrats Zach. You deserve it, it’s been long overdue.
Jimmy Johnson has become my favorite Cowboy of all time and I have been a Cowboys fan since 1970.
Love jimmy all about the 🙌
Jimmy Johnson was the man, Well respected around the league
So humble
You can still see why he was such a great great great coach and why after he retired, people by the likes of bill belichek went to him in florida to seek out his knowledge , so yes when you think about what the patriots did even , jimmy had a little part in that , I remember a interview he gave b4 they won there first superbowl when asked do you think if u stay healthy you’ll make the playoffs next season and jimmy told him , I don’t think , WE WILL be in the playoffs next season , I’m not doing the interview justice , but This is why troy has always been heartbroken about jimmy and Jerry’s egos, especially Jerry’s , in my opinion, because Troy knows -as do I , if those 2 stayed together, 94 nfc championship would of been won , not lost , they would of 3 peated, and they won the superbowl in 95 so that would of been AT LEAST 4 in a row , just like when leon BIG CAT lett, held the ball out in super bowl 27 , if he would of protected the ball , the cowboys would have the record for most points scored in a superbowl , that team I don’t care , was the best team of all time not by far , but was from top to bottom the deepest best team ever assembled , it hard to be upset about 52 points scored in a superbowl but that record would of been sweet and it really should of happened, jimmy was a great coach
Living legend.
I would love to ply for this coach
Probably the best HOF speech of the night.
