A literal masterpiece that came out of seemingly nowhere, but then again, that's what happens when you cross the genius minds of Tappei Nagatsuki, the author of Re:Zero, with those at WIT Studio.
The sad part is that since it's original this is all we have about this amazing story
Believe the Tappei was making a web novel on this afterwards. Think just the main story, but who knows, he might expand it when he’s finished.
@@resultingrun5928 I’ve heard such things as well. If it ever gets an official English release I’ll be buying it.
@@resultingrun5928 Highly doubt its anytime soon considering he still has atleast 4 Arcs or Re: Zero to write.
Little things I really like about Vivy:
-Her hair flying back when she runs at high speeds. Literally no other anime does this.
-Use of actual martial arts and proper stances and stuff during fight scenes. Also the things that can be pulled off with such arts without the limitation of a human body.
-The fact that the AIs touch their foreheads together to exchange data is really cute.
-Subtly reminding that our MC is an AI with stuff such as her suddenly freezing to process some data.
i love how the fight scenes they didnt just make vivy imitate some random fighting style but made her fighting style distinctly inhuman, as if only a robot body can pull it off
I agree wit this very much! Especially how she doesn't care fir the damage she takes
I loved this anime, it was a masterpiece that just came out of nowhere. That final song still gives me goosebumps.
I've listened to it, no joke, probably 25 times since I finished it
Personally, the moment that hurt me the most was when Vivy collapsed at the very end and the music abruptly cut off in the middle of the chorus. Every time I see that scene I feel my heart stop and I have a wave of pain running through my body. This is the only scene that made me feel that way, and it's fucking unpleasant, but it's so... good? great? I don't know what word to use...
This anime is clearly in my top 3 of the best anime I've seen, and I still listen to the musics regularly, except Fluorite Eye's Song because I don't like to suffer, even if it brings me happiness.
Genuinely one of the best anime I've had the pleasure to cover. The music is absolutely outstanding and the animation gorgeous. I hope you all enjoy the video!
Thank you for this!
Thanks for the amazing video, as always. You might be interested to know that the author of Re:Zero wrote this one as well.
@@matheuslira7076 oh yeah your boi was well aware
Its hard for me to list what I liked best in the series.
Push comes to shove though I probably have to say the value of music. Literally what is the reason the series exists... and in a rare case, that does not cheapen the plot at all.
Only other series I can say that about at all even though much less true is Zombie land Saga. Although one could argue that Music has greater value in Jojo's I mean the stands and references are literally everywhere in it and so music literally relates to the majority of the plot.
@@kodytiffany5686 Based on what you said here, I'd recommend Tekkaman Blade to you. It's an old anime from 1992, but the soundtrack works in almost perfect synergy with the story (which in my opinion, is still one of the best alien invasion story in any format). Try watching some AMV from the anime here on youtube and find out.
I wonder if Anime Wins figured out WHY the OP Changed when it did. It's because Vivy effectively was lost when she witnessed the suicide having both the blood of a human and AI on her hands. It absolutely messed her up and caused something to break in her AI which caused her to basically have a Split personality Diva and Vivy now being completely separate and Vivy being contained.
It was more that it created a contradiction in her programming. Basically, her mission is to make others happy through her song. But here, someone killed themselves out of despair and she was the leading cause of it, meaning not only did she fail her mission, she straight up contradicted it creating a logic error.
@@matteste The fact it also created a split personality was interesting too. Vivy got locked away where as Diva who's mission was purely to make people happy with her singing stayed. Vivy was like the logical error that needed to be contained and forgotten almost despite literally being a part of Diva.
The Ending also makes me think that it may be the Afterlife, and both Vivy and Matsumoto, even though they were AIs, they had a Soul in them.
So when they died, they ended arriving to their equivalent of Heaven, seen as a world in peace where they can meet each other again and do what they love.
It's probably thinking too much into it, but I like the idea XD.
One thing I love is how the whole series leads up to Vivy's last song. Additionally, I found it interesting how the ending instrumental was basically Vivy's Flourite Eye's Song without the lyrics because Vivy has not made the song herself yet.
I always love these kinds of reviews, just because it makes me appreciate shows I've watched even more than I did. Keep up the good work
What got me in the end and how I knew Vivy was ready to sing was the snap. She snaps her finger right as she leaves for the stage, just like Diva did all the time during eps 7-9.
binged this in one day. ugly cried at the ending (I haven't cried in five years for perspective.) 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking to be emotionally abused by stellar animating, beautiful song writing, and compelling story telling
omgg i love vivy so much honestly one of my favourite short animes and absolutely agree with you about the OP sometimes i still have the song stuck in my head even tho its been a few months since i first watched it
So excited your finally covering this was my favourite anime of 2021
Can’t wait to see what projects wit studio brings us next
Very likely Vinland Saga S2 I'd wager and they knocked it out of the hemosphere with S1
Ousama Ranking is airing right now. Check it out, it's really good!
@@AnimeWins I believe they also have a anime parkour movie coming out later this year called bubble that looks visually beautiful definitely gonna request that one in the future
@@justsomeguywithinfinity2077 If by request you mean vote it in on patreon then awesome.
@@AnimeWins exactly what I mean 😁
I'm only pointing this out in the hopes that it enhances your enjoyment of the show, but I think you left out one of the biggest wins in the whole show, and that is the fact that the ed (although it didnt play very many times) and the "lalala"ing of the robots, were all Vivy's song that she wrote herself. It really resonates with the idea that she was sort of the progenitor of the AI and that she struggled so hard to get to that point, on top of the fact that playing it at the beginning of the anime is a nod to the fact that we techincally started the anime AFTER she would have written that song. Very cool addition. (another win I enjoyed throughout was the imagery of touching foreheads being a way for the AI to directly share info, and Vivy doing it several times to Humans was a win in my book!) Thank you so much for this, I really really love this anime!!
I didn't watch Vivy. I experienced Vivy.
Tears in my eyes at the end here. We are blessed to get some if this anime these days.
Just finished rewatching this anime and it still hits just as hard as the first time
This anime is so underrated it should be a crime
I loved this anime, It is one that made me cry so much while it was out and having to wait one week from the beggining until the end was one of my worst feelings ajajaja, still is one way that made me keep on going, wanting to see the next episode of this masterpiece
Leave it to the author of rezero to get the tear ducts leaking
Episode 7 and its opening were just rly great. Changing the opening for one episode since its about the elusion of piece. Brilliant
Vivy is one of the best series thay I've ever watched, covering a topic that I am invested in heavily in ways that I dont think has ever been done before.
Thinking back on it the best part of the series for me, was also the most heartbreaking, the scene of watching the satellite plummeting towards Vivy. The scene was really well done, and I don't ever remember a single time feeling the way that I did in the moment I realized it was falling down on her, other than the end of my playthrough of NieR Automata. This anime is one to be remembered and will be a classic of our time.
Another great anime.
One that I am recently watching and I would like to see you win would be "To your Eternity"
Vote it in on Patreon
Literally the best anime original I know
>9000/10
Idk code geass is pretty good
Great coverage of Vivy, glad to see you liked it - both this and 86 fantastic shows of the last few years, straight into my top 10. Both should have more people talking about them!
Honestly, this is my favourite anime of 2021 and maybe even one of my favourite anime ever. Watching this review I actiually started crying at some points.
This was a truly great review of a truly great anime, thanks for making this
Few things imo that deserve a win. Big plot twists are usually foreshadowed very subtly; the way Vivy learns about the plane crash is through the newspaper article Matsumoto shows her, and the tender moment between Vivy and Momoka's sister. She explains for humans that forehead contact is for affection but to AI is simply a means of transferring data, then defeats Beth with a headbutt to upload the shutdown virus. The other small detail I really enjoyed was Diva's snapping habit; it heavily resembles the gunshot that Vivy heard when she witnessed the suicide, it seeps through in her default state through snapping which indicates how traumatic that experience actually was for her.
Instantly made it's way to my number 2 favorite anime of all time. Such a phenomenal story, outstanding animation, and beautifully made characters. Truly perfect
I still tear up when I hear Vivy sing her song. Because of the fact I grew *so* attached to her throughout the story. Then seeing as she slowly began to go down because of how the song was to be used for the *only* time she gets to sing it. It's heart-rending. But I still love how beautiful that whole scene was even as I cried that we are to lose the Vivy that grew through the entire season. It's so good.
That song at the end of episode 3, is probably my favourite OST ever. Whenever I heard that song, I just tear up. It makes me think of... space. Just space as the song feels so grand, yet enough time between each stronger part, to feel a litle emptyness of space. Especially in episode 4, when the music start right as the sun rises, that is just on a whole another level of beauty for me. I don't know if it is only me, but I just love it.
I gotta thank you for doing these videos because I got so intrigued by the fist 2 minutes I went and binges the show before finishing watching this video and I gotta say it's the first anime I've enjoyed watching in a few months atleast
Thank you for this video! I always ignored this series for its "music" tag, but boy did i misjudge that. After this Video i finally came around to watch it and it easily took a spot in my most loved anime. Thank you!
I'm so happy that I got to see you cover Vivy (my absolute favorite anime of all time) and enjoy it so much
Finally, WELL-DESERVED appreciation for best android girl and cube!
Thank you, thank you, THAAAAANK YOUUUUU.
Literally watched through this entire anime multiple times already and it has earned itself its very own top spot.
I am absolutely in love with it and am so glad that I decided to watch it at all.
The description of the anime itself got me curious and oh boi was I glad that I then started watching immediately.
The fact that this is an original anime and managed to give you all the necessary Information about everyone, everything AND MORE in just 13 episodes is absolutely outstanding and very rarely on such a level of perfection.
Leaving the end open for everyone to interpret on their own was questionable for me at first but I now think it's a nice and very unique way to do so.
P.S.: I absolutely lost it at your commentary sometimes, it was super entertaining and funny. :'D
Lovely video! and I'm thrilled you covered Vivy!
Been waiting for this, so excited! This anime was a gem!
I appreciate your videos man it actually makes me realise how much the animators put into it
watched this show when you said you where bringing a video out on it and I absolutely adored it
5:15 Another thing in that moment is just the weight of her steps. She sounds really heavy as an android should.
And really, the sound design of this show in general is great, not just the music. Like when one of their voices start glitching out due to a virus. Just so great.
oh my gosh yessss thank you, i absolutely adored this anime, and im so glad you covered it. i love watching your videos, and i cant wait to see what comes next. that being said, if i had the money id join on patreon so i could suggest you watch odd taxi, but alas, ill just have to hope.
amazing job
Yes yes here we go again with another banger! Much love!
Honestly, seeing this video is just so heartwarming. Not just because it's a great anime and I'm glad people are appreciating it, but also because I'm a cosplayer, and I spent a lot of time making a Vivy cosplay. I was so worried that, since it's a short, seasonal, original anime, people would forget about Vivy, and no one would recognize or care about the cosplay I put so much time and effort into. Seeing so many people here who love this show so much, now I know I'm going to wear Vivy to every con I go to from here on out.
Missed Vivy and find this sort of recap. Reminded me of how awesome it is to watch during weekly release. Must watch!
Such a beautiful anime and an excellent video!!
The final scene, it was just Vivy's last dream
1) Doctor Masumoto is dead, I doubt anyone can recreate him that perfectly
2) After that war, it isn't likely humanity will decide to create A.I
3) The background assemble Archive world
4) Robot can dream, as we saw in episode 5 when M205 dreamt before got brainwashed.
5) The most importain detail, when Vivy looks out of window, we see people doesn't dress like 2161+ at all, rather 2060 based on the timeline of the series.
The show is great before I understand the ending, but after understand it, it isn't great anymore.....
It is a masterpiece, a hidden gem of our generation.
i get to reexpirence this series without needing to rewatch. Awesome
I got to know this anime thanks to you and now is my one of my favorites and yesterday I rewatched it and it is still as good as previously was so I'm adding it to my must rewatch list.
A couple wins you completely missed: Diva's advice and mannerisms in episode 7 are all things vivy learned in previous episodes, primarily the space hotel arc. Even the calculator insult was from elizabeth.
This story... with the music... just amazing. I can't work out better words than that around the tears.
Yesssss, I was waiting for this. 😭
I watched this recently and absolutely LOVED it! I love how they incorporated different sci-fi concepts of androids and time-travel without being cheesy. The music, the visuals, the voice acting, all were executed fantastically.
Just binged the anime when you upload this, no regret and thanks
Also love the video! It's as great as always. ;)
4:45 you could also say, Wheatley from Portal 2
I'm a year late to the party, but I'll comment anyways.
I just finished watching and I'm now immediately watching this because I don't think any other anime that I have watched has made me genuinely cry so god damn much.
I will forever have flashbacks whenever I hear Fluorite Eye's Song, but I'm glad.
I heard you like time travel, may I suggest Lost Song? Not exactly time travel but close. Not my favorite anime by any means but one I won't be forgetting. As always, amazing video and I can't wait to see what you cover next!
Yes, keep giving this show its deserved praise; we must get more people to know about this masterpiece!!
Because you didn't mention it, I have to. Episode 1 shows vivy walking to the main stage from episode 13, meaning that when time hits this point there are two timelines that cause one to get the good ending, and one getting the bad. I didn't quite articulate it how I want, but I think that's good enough
dont know if you noticed (4:40 minutes in) but if you look at the top theres a countdown to the future download which i thought was a nice piece of build up as you wonder what its coutning down to
Thanks for this T-T this really reminds me how great vivy is
This is one of my all time favorite animes, I'm surprised I didn't hear more about it though. This one and 86 were the two animes that I jumped on when they came out and I should probably go back and see what that anime season had in store because it was all bangers and I probably missed a lot.
This was an emotional rollercoaster.
Let me rephrase that, just the last two episodes were an emotional rollercoaster. I went from YES YES to NO NO like 6 times in 2 episodes.
Vivy was a marvelous series. My series of the year. I still shed tears when I hear that closing song...
I've watched this anime 3 times subbed and twice dubbed i swear I've never got bored with it but the song and last scene got me emotional that three times i skipped it it gets every time i wish to see more of her journey.
I had this as my number 2 anime of 2021 behind Attack on Titan, I just loved it so much. The fact that the show makes you care about multiple A.I after just a few episodes with each of them, while also touching on real questions we will have to face ourselves in the not too distant future, is incredible. Throw in one of the best soundtracks in anime along with top tier art/animation and I just can't stop thinking about it. My only nit pick I had about the show was the CGI was a little shaky at times, but other than that it is one of the best anime I've seen and is one of my personal favorites.
Doesn't matter how many times I watch this......tears. Vivy evoked a unique sadness mixed with ecstatic joy throughout the entire show.
Can't wait for season 2!!!
Tro'lololololololooooooo!
I enjoyed this anime and it was underrated to be honest. It flew under radar for many including myself until I managed to watch it a couple of months back. How I regretted not catching it sooner. The ending for Vivy is bittersweet for me. Bitter for the people that had connections with her but sweet in the sense that she finally can have end a life that has spanned generations and making that life count and have meaning. One of the anime I would happily rewatch countless times even if I know it will be heartbreaking at times.
piece of art
Truly love this series
This anime has gone under the radar for so many people sadly, but this will be one of the few and only good things to come out of 2021
Allright 1 of 2 animes I wanted for this series is finished. Now I want one for 86 :)
this was such a beautiful anime that made me tear up multiple times. but the biggest one where i did shed tears was episode 9 as diva leaves and vivy stays and just cant understand
Finally after a long anticipation ☺️☺️.
Now waiting monogatari series Next
I was so happy when I saw this video
One of my favourite parts of the final fight sequence was human soldier taking the AI-stunning shot to protect Elizabeth. It really highlighted to me the importance and value of their cooperation in one simple scene.
I really hated the ED that I can't put it in my playlist.
Because if I do, I might cry every time it goes on.
Totally thought that was Rimaru for a split second when I saw the title card.😂
I like to think that the end of the Grace arc caused her to glitch, because of the conflict between her mission and the results of her mission.
It's nice seeing other people that like vivy, it's my favorite anime
It wasn't that vivy did anything intentionally, it was that her own action taken for the sake of her mission directly led to an outcome that goes against that same mission. She couldn't reconcile these two facts, symbolized by the different colors of her hands, and got a bsod. When they rebooted her, she had no memories.
If they had actually rebuilt and reformatted her, she wouldn't still have the combat program installed and active.
Was the piano playing robot in the scene with the crib the robot that the terrorist guy later lost? If so, that's a great detail.
Never forget Grace....never
You know what... I rewatch this anime 3 times is just that good 😳😳
it was a really incredibly good anime. God I'm so glad Gigguk gave it a shoutout.
I am begging you, please do a video about violet evergarden. I just watched the movie and it made me cry the whole way through. It is by far my favourite anime, please do a video about it
Patreon
This anime's dub is also pretty good.
I'm just going to share my experience with the Diva arc, since everyone here knows spoilers will be in the video and comments alike. When I initially saw 'Vivy' acting totally differently; it just felt wrong, somehow. "That's not what Vivy's like", I thought. The whole arc felt so off to me, I was always waiting to see Vivy act like herself again. Then it was only _right_ when she asked Matsumoto to allow her to fulfill _her_ mission with the 5 minutes she had left, that it finally bloody well *_HIT_* me; yeah, she's not Vivy. She's Diva. I lost Diva _right_ as I recognized her for who she was. The tears were like none other I'd cried. I had to just sit there processing my emotions; reprocessing the events of the arc; for a good long while, before finally recovering the emotional strength to load up the next episode. Damn, Diva's death hit me hard.
Love this anime so much
Finally some Vivy love
24:35 why can't i find the scene exactly after this anywhere that was one of best
I really like how this anime handles the emotions of the AIs. Often times they clearly display emotion like behavior. However, often it can be argued that this is simply a result of their programming. It leaves you wondering what they're really feeling, if anything at all.
Bruh I literally just finished this!
Oh man, bracing myself to relive the feels of a 100 year journey
One of the most underrated anime of 2021.
This anime's songs make me so emotional
The story was filled with complex plot and emotions. Vivy when shutting down and reawakening shows that some things end but won't ever dissappear, Matsumoto is now the AI that will aid the new Vivy in her singing, bringing happiness. While watching this it really felt like years passed by.
Well, i really like this anime. Best of the best in my list 👍
Can you make Everything Great about Kaitou Joker?

I swear dio is in every anime
