    Have you guys seen this issue before with the Dell XPS 9550 or any related dell models?

      Hi,
      I think this might be related to the BIOS chip being faulty or corrupted BIOS firmware.
      Please, check this video

    There is a CMOS battery on the other side of the motherboard (stupid design). You could unplug it and wait a while. I would also recommend checking that battery if it has enough juice. Some laptops won't even boot without a working CMOS battery.
    Also, did you check all the capacitors for shorts?

    Is this issue happening only on 4K models? I just tried to upgrade my Precision 5520 to a 4K screen and new 40pin LVDS cable and its doing the same thing, when i installed the 1080p screen back with the 30pin LVDS cable it works fine.

    After two weeks of troubleshooting Dell precision M3800 laptop with a black screen, and exhausting basic checks like RAM reseating, I opted for a more unorthodox approach. Inspired by some online suggestions, I temporarily covered the motherboard with heat-resistant aluminium foil, leaving a small opening over the GPU. Using a hot air blower for 100 seconds (450 degree Celsius), I applied controlled heat. Following this, I replaced the thermal paste (Arctic MX-6) and thermal pads. Upon restart, the laptop emitted a continuous beeping sound before rebooting and, miraculously, displaying an image! While I'm unsure of the exact cause of the fix or its longevity, it's a curious outcome and certainly a relief.

    Bonjour,
    For the past week, I’ve been experiencing the same issue with my Dell XPS 15. Here are the steps I’ve taken:
    1. Removed the back of the laptop
    2. Disconnected the battery
    3. Unplugged my SSDs
    4. Held the power button for 60 seconds (the charging cable shouldn’t be connected)
    5. Waited for about 20 minutes
    6. Reconnected everything
    What I noticed is that one of the SSD ports on the motherboard is a bit loose, which was causing the black screen. I made sure to properly insert my SSD, and when I plugged in the charging cable and pressed the power button, the Dell worked.
    I hope this helps you 🙏🏾

    In XPS 9530 I have similar issue. Similar because on your video there is no "Dell" logo and no ability to enter BIOS. In my case I sometimes had such black screen from start but sometimes got dell logo and windows started booting. Then black screen. Tuns out the problem is with integrated intel graphics. If I manage to boot into windows, into safe mode and disable intel gpu (in device manager; note there is nvidia gpu, too) then, after normal boot, I no longer get black screen. I assume integrated intel gpu is faulty in my case. On the other hand I'm able to use it under Linux just fine. Weird.

    I had the same issue with a 9570 ... I had the notebook opened up for an hour, removed RAM, battery, etc nothing worked. I then tried the "D" key and saw the RGB screens on the display and the notebook booted after that ... It definitely is a BIOS issue as when it turned back on it finished up an update ...
    I am done with Dell, not the first time that happens to me.

  • @creeper073

    Mine fixed itself by going into the diagnostics :D.
    I have had luck with an external programmer by reading the old BIOS, extracting the .bin out of the Dell BIOS.exe and merging the two with a hex editor. Its important not to forget the windows key. Otherwise it wont register.

    Have you tried flashing (via programmer) known working BIOS image dump from some third party website? (and before giving it out to customer it might be vise to edit the dump so it has proper Windows key inside).
    AFAIK Dell doesn't publish full BIOS images, just updates.

  • @laminelayaida2019
    @laminelayaida2019 Před 2 lety +1

    That chip is the cpu supply chip, if it is getting warm that means cpu is bad and need to be replaced
    And for the bios, you can download from Dell support, extract the files from exe file, and build all together, and you will get a fresh 100% working file
    For the cpu I guess it is 6th or 7th gen hq cpu, you can replace it with a bga machine

    • @Alex-mj7km
      @Alex-mj7km Před 2 lety +2

      I don't think it is CPU, because in that model eDP ""grows"" from the Intel iGPU which is inside processor, and if image is displayed, processor is more alive than dead.

    • @toperaheem
      @toperaheem Před 10 měsíci

    I sold XPS 9560, the screen was working fine, days later the buyer returned the laptop, mentioning about similar issue.
    I was quite surprised as the laptop was properly checked before it was dispatched.
    My first impression, keyboard was working as it should, pressed power bottom + D, the screen responded the test. Motherboard no visible damages, fan working fine. So, no physical damage whatsoever. I disconnected the battery, Wi-Fi card, screen… same issue! Next day I tested and tried to connect to an external monitor and suddenly the screen was working fine. My thoughts are unknown as I couldn’t figure out what caused the problem.
    Corrupt driver, bios…?

    For me and in my opinion, I'm definitely not going to Like or Subscribe to your Channel as you sadly leave people in Limbo with videos such as this one.
    Don't you think it would have been the right the thing to do to have let your viewers & subscribers know what was ultimately done with the laptop and it's final outcome such as the Customer went with the purchase of a New Motherboard, which fixed the issue, the Customer declined the repair yet you know the replacement of the Motherboard would have fixed the issue?
    The way you left this video floating aimlessly with absolutely No follow-up definitely wasn't right or professional in any way and I would be extremely Hard Pressed to want to ship my units to you let alone Like & Subscribe to your Channel.

      I'm a PC tech and there are so many variables this problem could be and so time consuming it isn't worth the trouble to go any further. I just tell my customers that I couldn't find the problem and they are welcome to find another tech. I don't charge if I can't fix it and let them know right away. Anything electronic wears out like a light bulb. Just a fact of life. I've sent pc's to electronic companies and they sometimes fix the problem but a couple months late it may have other issues or something else and it would have been better to just get another pc.
