I also believe that this particular song has a connection to her EP. He or she is talking about striving to be your best while facing obstacles. Her song Diamond at the end of the EP reflects inspiration and empowerment. She has come a long way in a short time and tells her story in this cryptic way. Just brilliant.

So i have this dream: there is a jazz club in LA called 7th Heaven, obviously AJ's place. It is great! The only problem is that it impossible to get reservations beacause when people go in they never leave. Such is life with heaven

This is an old form of Jazz called 'Swing'. My mom would go to Roseland
Ballroom back in the 30's - 40's to dance and listen to 'The Big Bands' that
frequented that venue. When they took a break from their 'up tempo' songs
in this 'Swing' music, a female soloist would take the stage and sing songs
like this, in a slower than usual 'Swing' tempo, utilizing only a few of the
band's musicians.

I totally understand your point; Angelina certainly can record an entire track in one take, but that shouldn’t and doesn’t stop her from singing it the way she wants for the effect she wants.
Angelina appears to be singing her own backup vocals on all but one of the EP tracks. (One sounds like a male voice.) She also overlaps a chorus with the second verse once.
She has sung 7th Heaven live in concert without backup singers. I am eager to hear how she handles the new songs live in September.
Also eager to hear what comes of the September performance!! Glad we can have this conversation though - she’s proven time and time again she’s capable of a lot of things, and I love the focus they’ve brought to the current works 💛

Such astute analysis. Angelina DID do this in one take. This second version, released AFTER she released her live studio version of the same song, shows vividly what you’ve been saying. You can create similarly beautiful versions with different approaches to the production methods resulting in uniquely distinctive final products.

Jesse, this is the song Angelina introduced as her new musical direction she called "Jazzy Pop" which has carried over to her new EP and will likely be her path for several years until she decides otherwise. I believe her unbelievably creative version of "Billie Jean" (which came out 3-4 months after "7th Heaven") was also a step in that direction.🙏
This is a really fun song, while at the same time a great message about believing in yourself and your dreams.

You are right there are layers to this production, also in million miles, and other places in the new EP. Any time they layer over her vocal in production, she has to work it out a little differently when she does it live or she could have to get a background vocalist. But so far in concert, she has sung those parts a little differently, even with a little more power, so you don't even notice the difference. Or you will love the difference.

The "one take" thing is mostly about when she's doing a cover before with her own guitarist/musicians. But the studio works specially now she's doing it professionally with RR of course requires mostly multiple takes.

Jordan and her team kept tweaking the song until it was perfect and ready for release. “We definitely tried many different elements to feel the right sound to it,” she said.
On February 21, 2021, a short videoclip was released with Mikkel Eriksen saying to Angelina:
"We were just talking about like: there are only that many vocalists in the world that can sing a song top to bottom in one take. And it’s amazing. A few of those people that we work with are: 1. Beyoncé, 2. Sam Smith, 3. Angelina Jordan. That is so rare and a gift and very, very special."

Love this song. Her 5th and final original before her EP release this year. This song was released in 2021 when she was 15.
Regarding the one take issue, with a song like this with overlapping vocals the entire song obviously couldn’t be done in one take. I’m sure what is meant is that the main vocal is recorded probably in one take and then the overlapping and backing parts are added latter. Each of those parts could also have been done in one take too. Angelina usually does her own backing vocals.
All her home recordings were usually one take too. Guitarist Ivan Mendez has said that the only time they would have to do another take is if he messed up
On point again, Jesse. You are one of the best reactors to Angelina (ok - maybe THE best!) The point about whether Angelina's songs are one take or not is irrelevant to me. The only thing that is important is the final product and how it sounds and touches your heart. It's great that her home-made songs are one take - they always sound fabulous because her voice is simply the best vocal instrument out there. But I love her new EP too, even though there is FAR more instrumentation and post-production going on in her songs. The point is, on her new EP, even though it's not just her voice and one instrument like in her home videos, the end product is some really fantastic-sounding music!

It is irrelevant to me as well- that is an artificial standard, especially with all the electronic modifications, pitch corrections/nudges, etc. that can go on after the vocal recording to totally change the song, as it was originally sung. I once heard this happen on a Jackie Evancho/Peter Hollens duet of Cohen's Hallelujah where they raised Evancho's register up almost a full scale during a part of the recording/production-but her mother noticed it and called the studio out on it.
For me, it's just satisfying enough to know that Angelina is capable of one-take excellent performances. There are a number of industry people who can attest to her prowess in that regard. If she never again records anything in one take, it makes no difference to me. I'll be in Portsmouth, NH on September 22nd to listen to her live concert. After being in Norway last summer for her concert there, I know it won't be like in a studio ... but, at the same time, I know it will fill my heart. BTW ... I have an extra center orchestra ticket.

I love this. Totally fun and great message. And fancy dancy. Yes, Angelina Jordan smoked that vocal line. Angelina is a professional. She does what is needed. She comes prepared. She's one-take when it is needed. I think it means the industry is happy to work with her because she is not a time-waster. Time is money, especially with team production---multiple people getting paid, and multiple people contributing to the sound, plus the vocalist. She learned that early because she had studio time from the time she was 5 years old at least. So...when you're buying studio time, you come prepared. I agree that many music novices focus on irrelevant things they think "proof" an artist- one of them being a "one take recording". That is great for live stage performances, but it is secondary to the experimental nature of studio recording. Another thing amateur listeners and fans love to tout is someone not having any vocal training (being an autodidact). Not having vocal training is not a virtuous part of one's development-it demonstrates an unwillingness to learn from others who came before you. Angelina has developed a healthy voice and we can tell she has had great mentoring from an early age.

Hey..sweet reaction, again. I prefer the "live studio" video Angelina put out first. The back-up singers add an authentic appeal for me.
