  • I’ve been looking at Buddy fan hacks and decided on using a paint grid shelf and pivoting Maiton stove fan. The fan was about $36 and the paint grid $3.50. The fan doesn’t move all that much air, but should be OK in my small camper.

    I know you said the fan doesn’t do much, but by golly it was spinning so fast it sounded like an airplane!!! 😊

    I got my fan 2 days ago and used it for the first time today with my new big buddy , in a 6-8 man ice shelter my son and I were very comfortable even with it on low , my son took off his snow suit and was in track pants and a hoodie. It’s awesome

    To avoid melting the handle go to your local fabric store and pick up one yard of Insulbright material and wrap the handle with it. This is the material that is used in pot holders and oven mitts and is a fantastic and cheap insulator. It will prevent transfer of the heat from the painters grid to the handle.

    Cool option, thanks for sharing 👍 A smaller 1-gallon grid might move less heat towards the handle..?
    I like this idea over the idea of cutting a notch into the fan base to attach the fan to the buddy’s grill..not only could the grid act like a heat sink, but the fan can be moved farther forward or back, to keep it from overheating on high and damaging the fan wiring..

    Good video. I wouldn't want grease on mine either. You made me think. There is a lot of nourishing freeze dried food that only needs Hot water. Someone could boil eggs if they needed to and no mess.

    Great idea, however I tried this, and had two problems. The first is that I was burning cadmium, which is poisonous. The next is that the fan was getting too hot and the windings in the fan burned. My solution was to make a shelf made of aluminum and drill holes over the heater so as not to overheat the heater. Smaller holes as further away from the back to the front. At the front there are no holes where I place the fan. It works great on high.

    I use this same method. It allows just enough space to not over heat my little heater fan.

    That’s going to melt the handle. It happened to me with a similar design. Hope I’m wrong though. I tried using exhaust tape but it was too late by then. Best of luck, good video

    Yup... Great hack here.
    BTW. The top back vent holes will melt your handle if the handle is left over those vent holes, at least it did mine.

    Funny, @2:35 that fan sounds just like a Piper Cub.

    Put the Mr Heater on the floor beneath a ceiling fan…… reverse the fan and I use low speed. Doesn’t NOT take long to heat our den…….

    I you put a flat plate instead of the paint screen, the fan will heat faster. The heat from the Mr. Heater heats the top "fins" of the top stove fan and reduced the outputs of the fan due to the fact that one part of the fan must be hot and the other (top) part of the fan should be colder to get the best performance. I actually burned one of this thermal plate that is the "engine" of this top stove fan because I let the top fins get too hot. Damaged done and I need to replace the thermal plate.

    The fan works great in anything. As far as cooking the same. You might make a small mess. Just clean it.

    Someone mentioned somewhere else that the paint grid might melt the handles. Did you have any issues with it melting the handles?

    • @bobwestinicky8447
      @bobwestinicky8447  Před rokem +1

      Ran it on high for an hour with no issues. It sticks a little, but doesn't melt the plastic. I think the grid acts like a heat sink and dissipates most of the heat before it gets to the hooks.

    Why the hell doesn't Mr Buddy make their own fans for these units? They would make a killing selling fans separately

    @HobieBob This particular fan is no longer available on Amazon. I really like the rotating feature of this one. Do you know if it may be available anywhere else?

      There has to be another fan that tilts. May take some digging on Google and/or Amazon.

      Can't say, but I would buy a double bladed unit for a room.

    Why not point the paint grid the other direction taking the fan away from direct heat?

    • @bobwestinicky8447
      @bobwestinicky8447  Před rokem +1

      What would be the point? Fan needs direct heat to function. Works fine as shown.

      @@movtipsislee I just use one and put it at least 4 inchs away from the heater . I havee to wat awhile for my propane heater to get it warm enough , I leave the heater on one so it does take longer . If it is a wood stove it works faster . You just have to test it to see which is better for you . The amount of blades on the fan mattter also . More blades does not mean it works better . I even help mine a little by spinning the blades , My blades spin to the left .
