Guys you have to do the DARKMAN trilogy!!!
You do know St. Patrick's Day is Sunday March 17th.? You keep referring to Monday the 18th. LOL
Saw this in theaters, and it was one of the most surreal theater-going experiences I've ever had. By the halfway point, almost the entire audience had turned on the film and were audibly laughing before every jump scare because they were so telegraphed. People heckled a few times and nobody shushed them. And when the credits rolled, over half the audience booed and/or laughed. To date, it's one of only like two... _maybe_ three movies where I actually heard people booing at the end of a film. (And I used to go to the theater at least once a week.)
I've said it many times, but watching this movie is like sitting in a chair while people dance around you, smashing pots and pans together and chanting _"Freddy's evil! He's sooo eeevvviiilll!"_ for 90 minutes. It's one of the most unsubtle, unpleasant, grating movies I've ever seen. Easily one of the worst of the 2000s/2010s horror remake boom.
Jackie Earl was clearly not the problem , if anything he did a fantastic job playing Freddy but as far as the movie in general as a whole was the biggest problem
@jermaine8573 He actually auditioned for the role for the 1984 original movie but lost to Robert Englund. 🎩🧤🧣🎥
I want some of what you're smoking. He was terrible in this lol. He sounded like mushmouth.
Jackie as Freddy was flat both in performance and character. The problem with Jackie as Freddy is he's to short for the role he isn't intimidating he lacks a physical fear factor that Englund had. By the climax you feel like you can take him one on one. The other problem is they tried so hard to make Freddy as dark and disturbing as possible that they removed any and all personality the character had. Even in the 1984 scary original Freddy had presence and personality while Jackies Freddy is so toned down he feels like any random one note slasher villian.
@@boomstickcritique902 My comment above vanished? I said Jackie auditioned for the role of Freddy back in 1984 but lost to Englund. Oddly they wanted Englund to reprise his role for the remake but he turned it down. And have you see Dylans New Nightmare? It is a 2023 short fan film that brings back Miko Hughes as Dylan. And not to mention Dave McRae as Freddy which is amazing!🎩🧤🧣🎥
@@SuperMarioBrosIII I think Jackie actually auditioned for Glen not Freddy and that the role went to Johnny Depp instead.
Simpsons did the “Freddy sculpting imagery” with Neddy trimming hedges with the Finger Razors and saying “Say Your Prayers Simpson…” to Bart! Still one of the best episodes in Cape Feare… “Pooo-blic Libary” 😂
One of the worst remakes ever, and the fact that Wes offered to help and they shot him down says all there needs to be said.
It will never stop being hilarious how people cry about Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy, but the majority of "fans" were crying and pushing for him to play Freddy and Robert Englund even agreed and yet now people cry about how he's "awful"
@@lutherheggs451 I don’t think any actor could make that really bad unoriginal script and studio interference work. I am not a fan of Haley’s performance BUT most of that has to do with the writing in the script, the studio, and the design they chose for the character. Those components make the film awful in my opinion. They should have had Wes Craven involved in some capacity to help (like he and his son did on his other remakes)
@@lutherheggs451 GOD could have played with that script and still failed.
This and the Robocop remake are the most unnecessary and disgraceful remakes I've seen.
Im sure it started well, and then you sign a contract. Im sure his thoughts went along something like this "this might kill all the buzz I have, however i am being paid alot, even if I never lead again im set for life. 50/50 f it, its already been more films on the big screen than 99.99% of actors even have the chance to do."
Rooney Mara has said in interviews that she instantly regretted doing the audition, that she did not want to part because she did not want to do the movie. They literally called the morning she was going to call and pull her name from consideration and told her she had the part and she didn't want to say no after that.
She's also the reason the franchise stayed in limbo longer than it needed...she wanted to be paid in full for the remaining two movies on her contract.
@@MrRickawesomethat’s how contracts work, welcome to the real world.
@@theitfactorjameswheezer2852🤣🤣 in the real world contracts aren't honored all the time
Just look at that thumbnail. I think that answers your question right away. lol
What? He looks realistically burnt unlike the other Freddy lmao He looks badass.
Freddy wasn't the problem with this movie his look wasn't either
I was eating at a restaurant many months ago and saw a child with severe burn scarring like they'd been in a house fire. Made me real sad.
Jackie Earl Hayley what's the best thing about this movie. Some of the dream sequences were cool, but it felt too predictable.
Jackie was flat as Freddy and to short for the role he was miscast. He works in the film as the human pedo Freddy but he is not intimidating at all as slasher villian Freddy he doesn't have the charisma for the role that and he's to short to be intimidating. Jackie is a great actor and a better actor then Robert Englund but he's not right for Freddy. Someone like Kevin Bacon would have been more appropriate. This film also lacked substance the abuse plot is interesting but literally nothing was done with it on a dramatic level.
I remember being so hyped for this movie and defending the idea behind the makeup! I even bought the shirt they handed out at comic con off eBay 🤦🏻♂️
Ironically enough, while i agree that there was way to much emphasis on the jump scares. I still have a decent enough time with the movie. While I believe the change from child killer, to child molester wasn't really made to honor Wes Craven perse, I believe it was done to honor one of the original ideas, as memory serves when I read Robert Englund's autobiography that originally Freddy was going to be a child molester , but Wes changed it because there was this big court case going on at the time.
That being said, I think a "What if" type of scenario where Freddy was actually indeed innocent would've been really interesting if done right. I thought Jackie did a pretty decent job with what he was given and if we ever get a new film would love to see him get a second chance.
Wait, what? David Fincher's Girl with the dragon tattoo is pretty damn good as is the original.
😂😂
Saw this in the cinema when it came out. His face made me so uncomfortable but other than that i enjoyed it.2 and new nightmare are still my favorite though
I think Haley may have been sought after more because of his role in "Little Children" than "Watchmen."
2010 Freddy kinda looks like someone burned a 2019 Jellicle Cat.
I can't believe you went the entire review without calling this version of Freddy Kreuger a "Cuties fan."
My problem with Freddy in the remake, he just looks like they stretched pizza on his face
Which, ironically, is the thought that inspired the original makeup.
I thought he looked like a Shar Pei
The burn effects were terrible in The Dark Knight. Two Face's bad eye was perfectly preserved even though it had no lid. The animated series got ot right with it being yellow and messed up.
Jackie Earle Haley, Kyle Gallner, Rooney Mara, Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker, Clancy Brown and Connie Britton… this movie definitely has a stack cast
Quality ingredients don't always guarantee a good dish. The performance Rooney Mara gave as Nancy was embarrassingly uninspired.
I know 1 (possibly 2) of those names. Is that a me problem, or are you being a bit generous?
Rooney Mara has said that she absolutely regretted auditioning for the part and was literally going to call and tell them that she did not want the part the same day that they called to tell her that she was getting the role.
@@CNYKnifeNutit’s a you problem
@@lutherheggs451 I regret her getting the part too although the movie would have still been bad regardless.
1 word we need DARKMAN guys???
We need a Darkman remake
This movie sucks. I will admit that a lot of the later NOES sequels with Robert Englund are also terrible, but this one being an uninspired "copy & paste" effort of the original film makes it that much worse.
Freddy looked plain goofy and the main characters were just so damn boring.
The dream child was bad as well
25:45 well actually Heather didn't fall asleep during the funeral in New Nightmare, she tripped because of the earthquake and hit her head knocking herself out. But the remake couldn't be bothered😂
It is borderline criminal to not mention the new addition of “micro naps”, which was brilliant.
The alt ending to this movie is one of my favorite Freddy scenes. Him with no makeup being the absolute worst person ever! I love it. It made me creeped out by Freddy in a way no other movie ever has. Also with him coming to the world as his human self it would allow for him to have different makeup after his second death by burning by.
I love Jay from RLM’s story about how when he was younger he was selected as a stand in for one of the cast and he got to meet Jackie Haley on set and Jackie mentioned to Jay and some other guy how he hadn’t seen the original Elm Street and had just watched it but thought it sucked.
Freddy's makeup is awful in this.
I admire them trying to make more realistic burn wounds but Jackie Earle Hailey can't emote wearing that.
Instead he comes across as a goldfish just opening and closing his mouth.
Poorly done suspense and a mostly forgettable cast, too.
I did like the EpiPen idea, tho.
Looks like melted cheese not covered pounds of make up
There was an epi-pen involved? Shows how much I actually engaged with that POS movie.
Lol the goldfish comment

Well, I couldn't even finish the movie, so yes, it's THAT BAD.
I wouldn't mind having mommy cop on DVD I haven't seen it but hearing Tony mentioning it so many times in multiple episodes at this point I need to see it so I can appreciate it. Perhaps sign it as well
I was on set during filming. They filmed some of it on the southside of Chicago. My friends son was cast as the child version of the main male character. I can’t remember his name the character that Kyle Gallner plays, got to see them film some of the flashback scenes at the elementary school.
I was there and I didn’t see you.

Freddy looks like a Star Wars alien in this one
The movie that turned Freddy into a PDF file??
Bad doesn't even come close to doing it 'justice'
1:07:00 Also, The Mutilator, aka, Fall Break. Hella tense scene, has to wait for it to heat up during an attempted strangulation.

Crystal, Christina was sitting down at the funeral when she dozes off, not standing up. And Quentin was using his personal laptop at the book store, not the stores computer. This movie does suck, but if you're gonna critique things, at least make sure you're correct about what you're critiquing. You made so many comments about things that were just plain wrong about what happened in the film. And I've noticed it's something you do in a lot of these videos. Idk if you just don't take notes, don't pay attention enough when watching the films, or what. Also, you missed the point entirely about why Freddy is coming after them, and not the parents. He doesn't blame the parents, he blames the kids for telling on him. Like Quentin says, if you paid attention. "He's not coming after us because we lied, he's coming after us because we told the truth". He blames the kids for his death, because they spoke up and told the parents about what he was doing to them. He wants revenge on the kids, not the parents. It's not rocket science. In fact, the lazy script writing spells it out pretty plainly.
Another great episode featuring Crystal! I'm noticing a pattern! Crystal makes everything better!
Jackie Earle Hailey is a Great Actor & he did what he could with a very weak Script & he's the only reason why i watch this Remake because he was actually Fine as this Version of FREDDY although I did'nt really care for the way they made him Look & I don't care for the Subject matter because it's a really sensitive topic,,,,,But i don't blame Jackie Earle Haley for this Movie turning out the way it did because He was Fine as FREDDY
This episode is better than the movie itself. Thank you Tony and crew
I don't need a video to tell you, yes. Yes it is. It's the only movie I've ever booed at the theater. It's the only movie that I left the theater thinking if the producers thought that screenplay was good enough to greenlight, I have to call their very literacy into question. I snuck into the movie and still felt ripped off.
Freddy Krueger is the most intelligent slasher in horror history; he has to be, having made his glove himself without any formal engineering schooling. Meanwhile, they make this Freddy a mentally-challenged child molester. Okay, if he was a child molester who didn't kill anyone (and he didn't; it's a plot point), why does he return from the dead as a murderer? If he didn't kill anyone, why does he have a glove with razors on its fingers? If he was a child molester, why is he going after grown-looking teenagers? Why isn't he going after young stuff? Remake Freddy lived in a basement room underneath the school, so why does he keep taking the kids to a boiler room? He had nothing to do with a boiler room when he was alive. Why does he make some kid stab themselves with a steak knife when he literally has a fistful of razors?
No matter how you feel about the formal series, it never EVER plumed the depths of moronicy that this film wallows in. It has no respect for its audience or really, its source material. Producers Fuller and Form solely just wanted another notch in their remake belt and there's a reason why Warner Brothers barred them from making a sequel (which the brass did Monday morning after the film opened).
Well say
Another Crystal and Cayley episode so soon? =>
Great video. I enjoyed watching it on Monday, March 18.😉
Which trailer is tony mentioning at 00:59?
I’ve never, in my life, walked out of a movie early. Except for this movie. I’m a big Fred-head too. This movie was atrocious and Freddy was about as scary as an August heating bill.
Crystal has really grown on me
She's hot! Crystal too!
I can’t wait to see the crow reboot movie in June!
No tony from hack the movies, Nancy, Freddy aren't the only returning characters Chris aka Tina short for Christina, and Jesse is from 2
I'd be excited to see a Nightmare on Elm Street remake review with Tony, Crystal, and Carley, but I'd be afraid they'd rip off their faces to become remake Freddies talking about The Last Jedi.
😂😂
When they chase Freddy and throw molotovs at him was amazing. That's about it.
Tony should review Insane Clown Posse's movie Big Money Hu$tla$
This was one of the first dvds i bought because i loved Katie Cassidy in Harpers Island. No clue where the dvd went and i dont care.
I thought they didnt use enough CG. They should've went all out in the dream realms. Nope boiler room.
Every scare in this movie was a jump scare. An hour & a half of BOO!!! Waste of a Jackie Earle Haley. Micro dream scene was cool though. Yay! A Crystal episode!😊
Short answer: Yes
Long answer: Yyyyyyyyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssssssssss
I appreciated what they tried to do with this one. But man did they drop the ball.
I know I’m not alone in saying I’d rather watch this review again before attempting to revisit the elm street remake. At least hack the movies has enjoyable characters.

There's only one chick in this video ;)

They could have replaced the whole “was Freddy actually guilty or not” mystery with a return to the original idea from Wes that they would discover that they all had older siblings who were victims of Freddy. They wouldn’t have had to do much work to make the change but it would have made a huge difference! Like the scene where they find the preschool picture it would have been a picture of all their siblings together. This would make them not knowing about Freddy make total sense because they were not involved and their parents wouldn’t be inclined to tell them about the murder of their older siblings by a serial killer. One little change that goes a long way towards fixing the movie! (Not to mention all of the bereaved parents having children around the time they lost their first children makes sense too.)
Platinum Dunes made a remake of The Hitcher that was so bad, nobody remembered it existed. :)
Only thing I remembered about that was the truck ripping appart Jim scene
I remember that it came out during my highschool like 2007ish? Was it that bad?
@@charlesderosas5577 Yes. There's an action set piece with a bunch of auto accidents and cars flipping and tumbling down the highway, set to Nine Inch Nails' "Closer".
I remember reading that Jackie Earle Haley auditioned for the original Freddy but lost it to Englund. Mayne that's why he was sought after when it came to the 2010 version.
The 2010 Remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street is very bad.
I wasn't someone who was against Platinum Dunes (Michael Bay's production company) doing the A Nightmare on Elm Street Remake, who were previously responsible for the Remakes of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th by director Marcus Nispel (which I don't think are bad. I actually like both of them). I wasn't against recasting Freddy Krueger for this either, even though it's very hard for a Fan like me to see another actor in this role. Robert Englund has played this Horror Icon for 19 years and for me has shaped this character.
I was just happy to see Freddy Krueger on the big screen again. But as they say "Be careful what you wish for."
The acting in this movie is on par with the Twilight Movies. It's a one-note job for everyone involved including the main heroine Nancy recast with Ronney Mara, who portrays such an important character in such an uninteresting and boring way that as a viewer you can't connect with her at all. It's the same for the other characters. All of them are pale and generic.
The only bright spot is Jackie Earle Haley, who plays the new Freddy Krueger. While he doesn't hold a candle to Robert Englund, he still turned in a solid performance, although he could have been MUCH better if only, he had been given a better direction and good script.
I think the biggest problem I have with this film is Freddy's new backstory. The 2010 Remake completely dropped the "Child Killer" aspect and turned Freddy Krueger solely into a Child Molester. If he was a Child Molester, why does he even need a knife glove? If he was putting kids in the basement of the preschool because he worked there as a gardener, why is there a boiler room in the Nightmare Sequences? In the 1984 Original, these things had made sense. He took kids to the boiler room where he worked as a janitor and killed them there with a knife glove. In the 2010 Remake, these things make no sense at all.
The film itself is produced to a high standard, but the CGI Effects are used way too often and look like crap most of the time. The Jump-Scares are also used way too often and just get on your nerves as the movie progresses. The Kills are okay.
The 2010 Remake also has almost nothing original to offer. It recycles a lot of stuff, even whole scenes from the 1984 Original and from the A Nightmare on Elm Street Sequels. It even takes stuff from Freddy vs. Jason (2003) and reuses it.
In a nutshell, I don't like this movie at all. I don't hate it like Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991), but it's still a very bad Remake that has no reason to exist at all and not a good Horror Movie.
Protip; A) Freddy was a child molester in the original movie, Im not sure what people think "child killers" take children for BUT since it was 1984 New Line and the investors didn't want it specifically stated that he was a child molester because it was still considered too "taboo" to have be part of the film. SO the words and direct referencing to him being a child molester were dropped and it was hinted at instead.....NO it wasn't just a 2010 remake thing, sorry not sorry.....
B) NOBODY wants to read a giant wall of text, maybe learn to break things up or condense things. Paragraphs are your friend and, make the reader actually continue.
@lutherheggs451 A) I'm well aware that Freddy Krueger was not only a Child Killer but also molested kids before he killed them in the 1984 Original and its Sequels, especially after Dream Warriors revealed that he himself was a product of one of the 100 maniacs who raped his mother. I'm not stupid.
B) Just like I already said in my comment, for Freddy Krueger being just a Child Molester in the 2010 Remake does not make sense, especially what we see in the Flashbacks.
If he was a Child Molester before he was killed by the parents of the children, why does he even has a knife glove? If he was putting kids in the basement of the preschool where he molested them because he worked there as a gardener, why is there a boiler room in the Nightmare Sequences? In the 1984 Original, these things had made sense.
He took kids to the boiler room where he worked, molested and killed them there with a knife glove which was his weapon of choice.
I'll agree that the Friday the 13th remake isn't as bad as some folks say, even though most of the canon fodder are really unlikable characters and I just wanted most of them to get theirs. But the TCM remake, IMHO, is terrible. Some decent visuals, but it lacked the tension of the original. And having more known actors was a mistake. It needed lesser known talent like the original. But I will say, it's not nearly as bad as the direct sequel that Netflix did. That's just horrible, even as cool as the bus scene was.
@@calebleland8390 Well, agree to disagree. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) is actually one of the better Horror Remakes out there imo.
And besides Jessica Biel and R. Lee Ermey (RIP), I didn't know of any of the actors who played in this movie.
The only good thing to come out of this movie is getting to see the famous Tony bitch about jump scares, the amazing Cayley give insights to why it sucks, and the absolutely stunning Crystal passionately explaining why it's an insult to the original.
The remake was horrible,no doubt. But there were moments here and there that I actually liked.
Ive watched this movie all the way through once. When Ive tried to rewatch it I can only get to where they cgi’d Freddy coming out of the wall over Nancy. Fuck this movie
I recently watched a first timer view both movies, but they watched this one first. They actually liked this one more 😂 they were laughing through the original.
It's fine, but I prefer the original.
You can absolutely have a 'Pop Tart Jump Scare' that doesn't suck. Case in point: Pulp Fiction.
I read somewhere that in the script Nancy was supposed to be autistic. That's why Rooney has such a bizarre performance in this.
I thought they just told the actors to be as bland and lifeless as possible.

I will say Jackie Earl Haley was the only good part of this movie. The writing was bad, but he tried his best. They tried being too dark, and the supporting cast was lacking terribly, which is crazy with actors like Clancy Brown.
Edit: also, fun fact for those who may not know. Rooney Mara and her sister are a part of the two families that created the Pittsburgh Steelers and the NY Giants of the NFL.
The original Nightmare on Elm Street is my all time favorite horror movie ever since I first saw it back in the 80's. I hated this remake.
I thought it would be a good idea to take a friend to the McGruber movie, we hated it so much we snuck into A Nightmare on Elm Street.😂😢

So mid scene they teleported from 44th street at the St. James to 47th street at the Rum House?
All that’s left to cover is F13 remake, the day can’t come fast enough
Clancy Brown as The Doll Maker in the Dexter revival was the best part
Robert Englund is Freddy Krueger. It isn't Jackie Earl Haley's fault. Nobody can be Freddy except Robert.
Yes, Tony, yes, it really is that bad. You can remake Jason and Michael all day they wear mask. But Freddy!? Is Robert Englund, It's literally his face and voice.
Steve Barron was a music video director too. He gave us Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 and Coneheads.
Yeah it was really bad, his performance was good, but the movie sucked. Freddy can’t be 5 ft 3
The fact that this NOES is possibly getting a 4K before all the others is insane
The movie is not good; it has too many flaws to count, but it did have some great lines by JEH, especially when he’s killing Jesse. “Why’re you screaming? I haven’t even cut you yet” is really great as is his explanation of how the brain continues to function after the heart stops beating
I almost didn't finish it. This Freddy sounded more like an angry Elmer Fudd.
I always thought Chris and Tina are the same name (Christina) and both movies just used different halves for whatever reason 😂
Man I hate to be that one guy but I actually don't hate this movie and the original is one of my all time favorite horror movies so I had every reason to hate this but didn't

Paid like $4 for this movie for a bootleg copy from an afghan market and still felt robbed 😂. Loved Nightmare on Elm St. And took me numerous times to even just stay awake long enough to get through this remake.
Jackie Earl Haley was a actually a solid choice for me in the new era. Lets face it we all love Robert England but he's getting older. What i like about this one is that he was pure horror and less comedic unlike his counter part. Ehat i didn't like about this was some of the deaths were too littlerly like the original like Tina's body levitating in the air and slashed to death. But my favorite death was the prison one where the guy's chest got punchured. Im gonna cut this short this wasn't a horrible remake unlike Friday the 13th a year prior this had potential and a build up that was decent for a second till the end of the movie
nearly every other slasher film has a villain with no personality. freddy had the most charisma of them all, due to robert englunds dedication to the role. he was all in! every actor who tries to assume the role will be compared to him. englund made the character HIS
I had fun with it after years of not watching it. It wasn’t great but it wasn’t terrible either. I’m more upset they used his look in dead by daylight though
as one of the three people that saw _Youth In Revolt,_ the 2009 Michael Cera flick where he plays a (sort of) dual role, I was excited to see Rooney Mara get a lead role.
But this really ain't it
This movie suffered from bad reshoots. There was a different opening along with a different death for Dean, plus a ton of deleted scenes.
Omg!!!! It’s Tony from Hack the Movies!

Wasted potential is how I think this movie is. Two really good ideas that cant work together wasted and filled with call backs to previous nightmare movies and bad editing choices.
