Outside of Trent Williams, they are awful in protection. All are on the team purely for their run blocking.
Purdy also had the best RB, one of the best TEs, and one of the best WR corps in the league. If your attitude is that he needs pro bowlers at every other position, you’re admitting he’s a system QB who can’t elevate the offense through his own play.
Mahomes didn’t take a trash team anywhere. He has the best coach, best tight end, top 3 defense and a line that is allowed to blatantly hold every playoffs.
So the Super Bowl against the eagles doesn’t exist

I think most 49er fans will agree that seeing Purdy during the preseason games his rookie year he definitely had a spark. A lot of us were rooting for him to make the team but I don't think anyone expected him to be as successful as he was. Shanahan liked Purdy based off the preseason games and actually talked about not wanting to take the risk of cutting Purdy to bring him back on the practice squad because he was 100% certain another team would pick him up instantly. At the time Jimmy G was assumed gone and we were looking for our QB2. Purdy beat out Sudfeld who had guaranteed money. 49ers actually took the loss on some guaranteed money to keep him because they didn't want to risk losing him. He looked good vs the Dolphins but his first official start was insane. That game vs the Buccaneers is when we truly knew we had something special here. Purdy was playing out of his mind and making insane throws that we hadn't seen from Garoppolo or Lance.
Since we don't get much College Football here in Germany the first time I ever saw Brock play was in a preseason game and I was impressed. I actually liked what I saw and was happy that he made the team. At one point in the preseason I talked to my best friend and said jokingly that during the season Trey and Jimmy will go out injured and Purdy will rescue the season and make it to the Super Bowl... I was very close to being right.
We barely saw any throws from Lance. He played 4 games, got hurt in one of them, and another was in a monsoon. Purdy has looked fine in the regular season but I haven’t seen enough from Lance to say if he would be better or worse.
@@erikdayne5429 He had his chance in the last preseason where he didn't show any signs of being better than Purdy or Darnold. Even coming from that injury Purdy looked much more consistent in the preseason games.
Lance couldn't beat a guy recovering from an elbow surgery on his throwing arm in February and Sam fuckin Darnold. We don't need to see anything else.

I started watching Purdy back in college. One of the few players I took the time to watch play. I was surprised when he didn't get drafted in the 3rd or 4th round. Couldn't believe the league was so ice cold on him. When he took over after Garoppolo I was responding to so many Niner fans writing off the season to get their popcorn ready.
I was saying when he was in college he is going to be great in the NFL
He was projected as a 2nd rounded before a down first half of a season as a senior as the noise got to his head
But even then it was a 4th round projection
The combine is what dropped that further
In short SF got a 1-2nd rounder with a late 7th round pick
I have a friend that watched him in college as well, at the start of his rookie season he said to me, just wait Jimmy is going to go down and then my boy Brock is going to come in and take the NFL by storm and take us to the super bowl. I full out belly laughed at him and said uhhhh yeah right bro. He ended up moving out of the country to take care of his parents, I called him during the Dolphin game as asked him bro are you seeing this?! He said no I can't see the game but now who is the fool and I told you so.

They seem to think that a Qb has to throw a ball 65 yards in the air and it's a win. But I've seen him throw 60 yards and that's not a big deal because how many games are won by long bombs. Most of these throws cannot be caught, so this is not how you win in the NFL.
Regardless he is still the #1 deep passer in the league
Man, where you get the idea that SF has even a mediocre offensive line? I suggest you do a little research on that. They have the best left tackle, but the line overall is one of the worst ones in the NFL.

I remember seeing Purdy in one of the 2022 pre season games and you could tell that he was confident in the pocket, calm and collected. To the point where I started gaslighting myself, like "well its the preseason, against backups". I really noticed it when he came in against the Chiefs in garbage time, and he was slinging the rock, completion after completion! And then I went to that Week 13 game against the Dolphins, recorded Jimmy getting hurt and then later I got Purdy's first NFL touchdown on video too. The hype was real, it felt like the whole stadium had Brock's back.
Purdy is a cold-blooded assassin. There are at least 2 examples I can think of that he's the 'awww shucks' boy for the cameras, and then he immediately transitions into Agent 47 when he thinks the cameras are gone.
He's going to have a career season this year, It's getting personal now. He ain't going to have 3 losses in a row, or 4 ints in a game, that was just him learning. Dude is going to stone cold take every game personal and stomp over every other teams fans, and his offense will be desperate to keep up with him.
Let's revisit this in a years time.
It’s a fact Purdy has played his worst football when the pressure has been the highest. In the playoffs, on Monday night football, against other great teams. I have no idea where this theory that Purdy is an “assassin” came from but it’s just not accurate. He’s started 6 playoff games and has a total of 6 TDs in those games, and half of those TDs came in his first playoff game. He’s the opposite of clutch. He’s a front runner who pads his stats against bad teams in the regular season but then falls off a cliff when he’s playing another great team or he’s in the playoffs.

He was drafted last and doesn't have the outside physical traits. The scouts were wrong as other intangibles are important, too.
We call the entire phenomenon Shroedinger's football team. Shanahan has gotten success with QBs like Brian Hoyer and Matt Schaub. But despite that Shanahan has never won CoY a single time while Kevin Stefanski has won it twice and doesn't even have as many playoff wins. But Purdy can't be MVP because he has Shanahan. The credit just goes to whatever person you're not talking about.

I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it. Name a HOF QB who didn’t have weapons on his team. One maybe two? Course none of those guys catch flak like Purdy does.

@@Alyumic - sure it does. It means the guy you think is great has zero Championship rings. Take Danny White for instance. He won twice as many games as he lost, took the Cowboys to five playoff appearances and three consecutive Championship games. But you never hear his name when great Cowboy QBs are discussed. There’s a lot of hype around Dak but he has never made it to one Championship game. He’s good but not great. Besides Payton has two SB rings and that’s what makes him great. He wouldn’t be considered great if he didn’t.
There's a chart, I wish I could post here, that shows every teams Oline rank in pass pro on one axis and every QBs passing efficiency with that oline on the other. Brock had one of the worst Olines but was off the charts and by far #1 in efficiency anyway. Brock Purdy factually makes his oline and offense as a whole better than what it really is. No hater in the world can take that away from him and none of it is backed by facts, all feelings. That's why the only knock they can come up with is that he has good players around him. Stay crying haters, you only mad cause he beat your team
Brady and Myhomey didn't have bad teams. Both had elite coaches and front office.

Brady inherited a fairly average offense, but a really good defense, so he didnt have to be that great for his first couple superbowls. If remember correctly his first 3 superbowls were decided by a field goal. He didnt exactly putting up big numbers at that point in his career.

My initial thought of him was that he had the pocket poise of Dan Marino, the coolness of Joe montana, the legs of Steve Young, and the football IQ of all three. He's running ability will show more this year.
You were asking when he started his first game. It was like 3-4 regular season game against the Dolphins he was third string and a rookie. He just kept winning. As a Niners fan like many including myself we really didn’t know him. The rest is history. He’s a gamer, has heart and is for real. He’s every team’s nightmare! I’m so glad we got him.
Purdy was lights out in preseason and thats when he got on our radar. But, when we got CMAC, then back up brock showed him around the training grounds. This is a quiet killer

The thing is once you get out on the field, doesn't matter if you are the back up or the 3rd receiver. You better make it count because if you screw up, you can be easily replaced. At least for Purdy, when he got onto the field, he took advantage of this and now he's the starter and will be for the long term future.

I still laugh at the memories of when some commentator said the same thing that SI once published about Kurt Warner: "Who IS this guy?" Supposedly, he came out of nowhere. Funny, every one of us in the state of Iowa knew precisely how good he is.
They hate Brocktober (given that nickname because, with the exception of his senior year at ISU, he never lost in the month of October) because the pundits gotta die on that hill of the narrative that he's no good...and, more than likely, because he went to ISU.
Nick Saban turned him down because of the same reason all these pundits continually parrot years later: That he doesn't have the arm strength to launch, say, 100 yard bombs. Yeah, uh, I'd much rather have the laser pinpoint accuracy in a QB than simple arm strength. I also guarantee, though, that if Purdy played at Alabama, this ENTIRE conversation goes in a completely opposite direction. Iowa State isn't a powerhouse team, so no one who played on that team is any good...right? Most pundits seem to HATE star players that don't come out of the SEC, Ohio State, Michigan, etc.

I remember looking forward to lance so bad, then saw them side to side in those games and I looked at my girlfriend and I said “yo who the fuck is this purdy guy he looks better than lance” 😭 from that point On I was actually wondering if lance would lose the job to him

I knew Brock in college ever since he played against Oklahoma one year and I’ve loved the way he plays for a while. But they will hate Purdy because he’s better than their teams QB and he’s successful
The arc of Trey Lance reminded me of Colin Kapernick and the down fall of the 49ers. All of my family members were so sure of Lance and the up side that they were blinded by the down sides. So when jimmy got hurt and Brock came in I was all in on Brock over Lance. No one believed in Brock until the next starting season when Brock cook the Steelers. And sure the Steelers weren’t good but their D was one of the best and Brock cooked them. A full 4 course meal.

I don't hate Purdy I think he's a good QB probably top 10 but he's not a top 5 QB in the league. What I hate is how some people already think Purdy is in the elite top 5 category or that he is just as good as Maholmes lol. Let's wait a few more seasons especially when the 49ers have to pay him and he loses some of his weapons before we anoint him as an all-time great QB. But to get back on my opinion about Brock Purdy he is the most efficient quarterback in the league he doesn't do one thing that's really outstanding like some of the other do but he does everything well he has no real weaknesses where even Mahomes and Allen have certain weaknesses but they have tremendous strengths but it's so easy for a scouts to overlook pretty because they didn't see anything unoutstanding he had to pay close attention to see what was really going on and if he scouts did as IQ is off the charts as well as his work ethic and leadership these are things that are easily sometimes overlooked but look what happened with Tom Brady everybody overlooked him and he's a systems quarterback he has an extremely high IQ he makes everybody better around him just like Brock Purdy he will know they're physically different but mentally they are the same

He lacks a certain pedigree is why the hate. He defies convention….didn’t do this and that, lacks a physical stat or 2, didn’t play for one of the big schools, blah blah. His biggest hit is that most any of the other starting QB’s would also thrive under KS, therefore he really isn’t that special. Could NOT elevate the Chiefs, Bills, Ravens, pick another 7-12 teams of which if he started for them instead, they & he would not do as well. Its all conjecture, semantics & the likes. He is clearly better than any of his predecessors going all the way back to Alex Smith and with a little more playoff success and just ONE Super Bowl Dub, he will be on the 49ers QB Rushmore. The system changed entirely. Watch games pre and post Purdy. Shanny never trusted JG to throw it deep. Purdy led the league in almost all deep pass stats.

This idea Brock can't play well if one of his weapons is missing false narative Brock has played year and half now and for 50% of his snaps he has had at least one of his all pro weapons missing and his stats have improved so it's nonsense, if you want to say if Brock as several weapons missing we don't know what he is ok but isn't that almost every qb ever? Also Brock has an oline ranked 28th pass pro, it's atrocious but Brock overcomes it's time to give Brock his respect and it seems it's only silly TV analysts that cannot possibly watch every snap to know what thees guys really do, funny how players who have to gameplay and watch every snap they rank him 28th in top100 in year 2 seems people who watch tape and understand what there seeing really appreciated Brock's game.
