LOL...no worries...but did you realize that boat was called The "Wraith" and not "Wrath"? I mean...it is really cool either way, since one is a deadly sin and the other is a dead spirit, but I am positive there was an i in that name. ✌😁

I’m so confused about this beer engine? Please explain! I bartended for over 20 years and my parents owned a tavern (beer and wine only) and a Bar (beer, wine and liquor) since I was 10 yrs old. I’m from the US. I’ve never in my life heard of a beer engine. So I’m being very honest can you explain what it is please?!!! I think your talking about a beer tap? Thank you💞

I thought it was Wrath too until I went back & looked. The size of the A fools your eye into not seeing that skinny "I". Honest mistake when there's a lot going on.

@@hardpass9855 In UK, it's a hand pump /hand pull or just called a pump. Bitters/cask ales are pumped up from the cellar rather than using gas - called pulling a pint. They are served at cellar temperature. The ones that use gas would be called a tap or tap handle and serve fizzy beer usually a larger at cold temperatures. Ciders could be either spending on type.

  • @iankynaston-richards5239

Beer hand pumps are technically called engines in UK too, but hardly anyone would refer to them as such unless they had experience in the trade. The beer engine was invented in 1691 by John Lofting, a dutch inventor. Using the term "tap" should refer to a beer cask on a trestle with a tap fitted to dispense the beer, but has become shorthand for any cask beer, however dispensed. The real sacrilege comes from dispensing beer with a pressurised CO2 system and such beverages should be avoided.

Hi guys, the channel you are on prior to crossing the Leek Aqueduct (not bridge) is a relining project I worked on in the early 90's, the basin at the other end of the bridge is one of mine too, various relining projects projects between Leek and the Fron were mine too. Also the approach to the Fron iron aqueduct was aproject I worked on as was most of the basin on the other side plus on and off up the feeder canal to LLangollen. Fun fact, whilst installing joints at each end of the Fron I had to return to my office in a blzzard so walked across in the bottom of the trough. Nicely shot video. Mike B

Great video. I'm in NZ but my understanding Guiness and probably you brew is that the pump forces the beer through a plate with a number of small holes in it. This stripes the nitrogen from the beer and makes very light small bubbles. The beer is flat but has a creamy head. Some cans have a nitrogen capsule in them. They burst when you open the can making a dense foam.

"craft", "barrel", "cask" - i had to look engine up. :)

What a fantastic couple of videos on your canal trip. It's super nice to see a piece of England and Wales that you know being eulogised by somebody - brings a tear to the eye. To finish your UK beer education, cask ales - also called real ales - like the Porter you had, are hand drawn and not pressurised under CO2. They are served at "cellar temperature", about 55 F, as the casks are kept in the cellar beneath the pub. The myth of "warm beer" persists because it is not refrigerated like a CO2 pressurised beer or lager served at a much colder temperature. I don't think I ever found hand drawn cask ale anywhere in the US on my trips there.

I then with friends moved it to Oxford over 2 weeks which was great fun and on the route down is the Harecastle Tunnel, you think your tunnel is low in the middle of the Harecastle it is as low as 3-4 inches off the top of the boat but I am so glad you enjoyed it

I live in Wales, and yes its spectacular! Very hilly compared to England, and more dramatic scenery and weather. Has its own distinct language and culture, and some of the best beaches in the world. The engineering on those canals is insanely difficult for the time they were built. It really was the birth of the industrial revolution, and of course Wales is famous for its coal which kick started a lot of the industry. Great job on the video, that viaduct would have scared the life out of me !

Wales is not a separate country from the United Kingdom. It is a country in the United Kingdom which includes: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. And something I learned living in Switzerland: The Swiss Germans occasionally refer to the Swiss French as Welsh (not in a nice way) as the word originates from an ancient German word for foreigners. So probably the English name for the country ie Wales (Cymru in Welsh) came from the Anglo Saxons, who migrated to Great Britain from Germany, labelling the people there as foreigners.

There are some tunnels that are too narrow for the horses to tow the boat through and you have to lay on the roof and walk the boat with your feet pushing against the tunnel ceiling ! Years ago, teams of people would do this ,for a fee, on the longer ones. This is known as "legging it" and the people legging it, were known as leggers!
The river Dee cuts through Llangollen and there are some serious rapids just outside the town called Swallow Falls. Great fun in a whitewater boat. Great fun till someone gets hurt that is , then it`s hilarious! 😎
Stay safe guys, fair winds xx

Canal boat popularity has sky rocketed the last 5-10 years. And especially after covid. Lifestyle change at an affordable price.

Caught David's VLOG yesterday, about you all and he coordinating the arrival, OJT, and his guidance for the first stint of your Journey.
This is certainly a treat, not ever have I thought about this or known of the Long Boats in the UK and Wales. You have certainly educated us all about this amazing invention, engineering and continued success of a vertible Historic Treasure! Definitely an unusual journey of sweet patience and slow success.
Those lambs were adorable; however, they were on the wrong side of the fence! That is why they were so active, Momma has the milk and they are flummoxed! Panic attack! Such a charming Spring adventure, I loved it! Thank you both for the cleverest water adventure yet!
