Inside India’s ‘surrogacy village’

  • People often turn to unusual ways to make an extra income to support the family. In India, a trend is on the rise of women becoming surrogate mothers. They carry a baby for people who cannot have their own children. But for these surrogate mothers, even though the money is good, the job is tough and emotional. Ravinder Bawa traveled to Anand, India where she met the women who are making sacrifices to give life to others.

    For those people who is saying this is so wrong, you can’t feel the pain of couple who can’t have baby of their own. At the same time, you can’t feel the poverty in which people are living and these amounts may be a relief factor for them. But yes, i feel that they are underpaid for what they have been through ( isolation from family, 9 months of pain and detachment with the newborn they carried for that long period).

    • @ritwikadas7258
      @ritwikadas7258 Před 5 lety +1

      Dude. Why can't people adopt? I mean there are so many innocent babies waiting for a home. Yes maybe it's a way for some people to get out of proverty . But the point is that sometimes these women are forced to do it . That's inhumane.

    • @FollowDT
      @FollowDT Před 5 lety +2

      Ritwika Das its so easy to give lectures on adoption. But less people know that adoption is a big commitment. Its about the acceptance of child not only by parents but the family, relatives and society. If the child is not accepted fully, its more adverse upbringing. As long as people know they cN have their own child, they want to have their own.
      Also, here in this case, I don’t see they are forced, they came here by their decisions to solve their poverty. But 9 months time is a long period to commit and they feel isolated and lonely from family. If they are forced otherwise, they should be seen legally. I just want to say you cannot say either party wrong in here. They have their own issues. Because i see lot of comments blaming either of the party.
      I work in social feild. I have seen many cases like these. When it comes to you about infertility and poverty, it very tough to decide. You would thank them. So i say that pay is very low for them for their 9 months commitment.
      Also, i been thinking to adopt a child, but it’s taking me a long time to convince my family members and i m preparing myself as well. I am giving myself a five year time for mind making and convincing to adopt a girl child. Because I worry about her acceptance after I adopt. So i should be fully prepared. But it doesn’t meN that I can’t have my own, i am having a baby soon. But adoption is a big commitment dude. I feel its fine not to adopt a baby rather than abandoning them after a period of time. ( i have come across such cases).
      At last, people who surrogate are like god for those having infertility issues. And those who surrogate especially in hospital, are not doing it for charity, they have their own problems to solve by giving their womb. So we should stop blaming both parties. I see people lacking empathy over here.

    • @FollowDT
      @FollowDT Před 5 lety

      P.s she agreed to follow the decisions of her husband, because she wanted to educate her son. Who knows if her husband is working or not? Maybe the income is not enough to give better education to her son. Plus we cannot judge people by their clothes what they wear. Putting on sunglasses doesn’t mean they have Rayban on. Its so easy blaming others before you actually enter their house, talk about issues and their problems, what made to do these. We neec to go to root and then talk. Otherwise, being philanthropist without going to feild is useless. People get education paid by their parents, and scroll the Facebook, CZcams just for opinions, that’s so wrong. That’s so so wrong. But i can proudly say, I have been in such cases, have communicated with such people, know their issues, had empathise them. I am funding two girls back home for education because they have been abandoned after adoption. So we should know these things before we point someone wrong. Forcing is never good, if you find someone forcing someone in your country, its just not the opinion you should give, but report it, action it! Just go in roots, find the issues. Use your education. Be an example by adopting before you suggest someone. It looks tough, isn’t it?

    I only hope these women were treated well when surrogacy was allowed in India. Poverty sounds not the best reason for being surrogate but if she's taking care of herself and realize all the consequences of her choice, why not? Now they can only do this for free and I'm sure there are problems with matching for altruistic surrogacy in India. I wonder what do these women think about that 2016 Bill...Are they grateful or angry?
    I did surrogacy in Ukraine, Biotexcom and I do hope that the country won't change its law, otherwise I can forget about the second baby

      I could not agree more with what you had to say about this. Surrogacy is a viable alternative to ART. Moreover, these women are doing such selfless acts to help others become happy. I also see there is nothing wrong with this. Great to hear that you have done surrogacy. I love reading success with surrogacy in Ukraine. So, your clinic was Biotexcom? I have heard of it on many occasions. However, I haven’t talked to them directly as such. So, I would love more info about the. How was the whole experience? I need first- hand experience of such experience. For me, I had been dealing with infertility for 3 years, which sucks. Infertility totally wrecked me and overtook my life. I just wan to go with surrogacy and be happy again. I am not that knowledgable about laws in Ukraine, however, I just hope they won’t change the laws. I look forward to your reply on this one.

    Why that woman had to do so if her husband was earning? Many men are there like that shameless husband who force their wife to do so. One more question why our typical society is promoting this practice rather they should promote adoption to fill their life with happiness. No they will not do so cause they are concerned about the adopted child they will get will be of whose, which type of gene he/she might be holding etc etc 😕😔 how pathetic the society became that they have started leveling innocent children too. Money is also one big factor which is forcing everyone to do so. 😔 May God bless all with good thought and acceptance so that no orphan will live as orphan anymore.

      @MATHA NOSHTO-MAN I don't understand why u gave that anti-feminism speech which was not even relevant here. India as a country is quite socially backward and the treatment of women here is famous around the world - that is nothing to be proud of. So upliftment of women is very much needed not only in India, but in all third world countries . Anyways, I agree with you on the point that there nothing wrong for a couple to want surrogate. It is their right and their personal choice to have their own child. Why should they be forced to adopt? by that logic NO ONE should be allowed to have kids at all and everyone should adopt. Country has too much population anyways. I don't see anything wrong as long as the surrogate mother is doing this by her own choice & not forced by husband or other family members.

    I will say this from my point of view. May God bless every woman who lends her fellow woman womb to have her bundle of joy. Never advice an infertile couple to adopt a child. That pierce their heart the most. Being childless, is Avery tormenting ordeal. You have no idea how it feels when a childless couple finally meet the blood of their blood, the bones of their bones and flesh of their flesh. God has a special blessing for any surrogate mother
