  • Welcome, Fall 2022. As you may be able to guess, the Florida Railroad Museum has had quite a bit on their plate for the upcoming holiday season. This video documents and follows some of those side projects, those that the average visitor would never know about, providing a behind-the-scenes look into the operations within the museum. I even have a project of my own that I’ve taken on at the museum, so with all that said, I hope y’all get something out of today's video, perhaps that be a laugh, some new information, or just some general enjoyment. Let’s face it, I’m no professional, but railroading is my lifelong hobby. To those who are still watching after all this time, I appreciate all of the support, since I’m simply doing what I love. I attempt to upload railroading videos as often as possible, being limited by basic lively boundaries, whether it be school, work, or simply a packed schedule regarding the family.

    I hope that the content which I produce is somewhat enjoyable. My videos primarily show what railfanning is truly about. Whether that includes my friends, jokes from our boredom, or simply the trains themselves. I’m hoping that along this journey, new viewers will become regular fans of this channel, as I’m showing some things which others may neglect. Besides, I’m just doing what I love and it’s always nice to share that with people who share those interests. In the end, whatever I’m producing is meant for trainwatchers and railroad enthusiasts of all ages.
    Thanks for Watching!!!

      Thank you very much! Simply seeing it look like an actual railroad crossing is quite enough for me. Thankfully, the funds from this holiday season are supposed to get them some heavier equipment to keep the rest of the right of way cleared out.

    That GO FP9 was a very cool tri-rail unit. Lol

    • @kotabeaner
      @kotabeaner  Před rokem +1

      It was originally built for GO-Rail, but it also served on the South Florida Rail corridor for Tri-rail before it was officially retired. It never received the Tri-Rail paint, though it did receive the logo on the rear.

    Maybe an idea for extra revenue, is to have some cars set aside for use on the back of Amtrak trains only in the Florida area. You would then switch out the cars with a different set from the museum to do maintenance, repairs and to let others see them.

    • @kotabeaner
      @kotabeaner  Před 11 měsíci

      While an interesting idea, it’s very impractical, considering that we’d probably have to pay Amtrak to run our cars on their trains. In addition, we don’t currently have access to the national rail network, meaning that we’d have to send the equipment of choice over the road, costing us even more. It’s also very unlikely that most of our rolling stock would be rated for the track speeds at which Amtrak trains operate, so the equipment of choice would need major bodywork done before they would be standardized to operate. All costing $$$$…

    So kool that you get to tag along with them for a small documentary... I really enjoyed this. Hopefully they will allow you to do this more often....It'll get the word out about the museum. I haven't been there a over 4-5 years, now I want to go back again just from your video....

      It certainly is, and let me know if you plan on visiting, I’d love to show ya around. The only reason I haven’t done this ‘more often’ is because it was kind of hard for me to decide how to put it together, especially considering that the stuff in this video spans from October to December. I’ve also had a number going on myself these past couple months, so getting out here and editing everything has been kind of in and out. I don’t often mention it, but I’m very tight with the museum, so I essentially have an all access pass to this kind of stuff when time permits - part of why I like to make videos about it, since the average person wouldn’t be able to see, and they always appreciate since it helps them out. Thanks again my friend!

      @@kotabeaner I love the "behind the scenes" stuff. I wish I could that for what I do for a living, commercial aircraft maintenance (avionics for me). I would love to walk people through all the stuff we do to keep these flying tin cans safe for the flying public. The airlines and maintenance providers would never allow it. Not to mention, there would always be a lot of swearing in the videos, it's just the way we mechanics / technicians are...lol. If / when I do get around to getting back to the FRRM, I'll reach out to ya...

    Congratulations on your work at FRRM. So many rail fans only "fan" and never contribute to the efforts that actually preserve so much of our rail heritage for everyone to appreciate. Whether it is crossing maintenence, caboose restoration (which I can really relate to with our FLAIRR auto-train #3!) or whatever all parts go together to make the overall progress.
    Question on the dark green car next to 8330 @ 12:00 which looks to be a former express milk car (small side plug door possible giveaway)? Also any info on the heavy-weight obs car "Monte Rosa" background heritage?
    Anyway thanks for your efforts always appreciated. Been too long since my last visit to FRRM so may be able to swing by sometime after the RPCA Convention in Spencer, NC in Jan to investigate some possibilities. Hey, maybe you could arrange an update tour for us?!

    • @kotabeaner
      @kotabeaner  Před rokem +1

      Perhaps I could! That’d be an interesting way to revisit, that’s for sure. If you plan on visiting in January, you might even be able to see some progress on the 8330 first-hand, depending on how far they get by then. The car you referenced is a former express milk car. I also don’t have any meaningful information on the Monte Rosa off the top of my head, but I do recall president riders being referenced. I’ll certainly follow up when I figure out more. Thank you!
      Update: This is a video of it actually arriving at the museum back in 2012. Doesn’t say much about the history, but figured you may find it interesting.

    Kotabeaner, quick question: at 17:24 we see a CSX property sign. Should it not read FRRM? Or does this section belong to CSX?

    • @kotabeaner
      @kotabeaner  Před rokem

      I might have to get back to you on that one. It’s been quite some time since they drove those signs in, and I can’t remember exactly why it was done, but I believe the signs were donations from CSX to the museum, like some of the signals they’ve received in the past. Like I said, I’ll ask and get a better answer here soon.

    • @andrewschannel4259
      @andrewschannel4259 Před rokem

      @@ACLTonyIt should also be noted that the unit you're talking about doesn't have a prime mover. It was used as a cab control car in push-pull service, like what Amtrak does with their retired F40 locomotives.

    • @ACLTony
      @ACLTony Před rokem

      @@andrewschannel4259 Thanks Andrew. Bummer about it not having a prime mover. I'm hoping that eventually the museum will obtain an operable cab unit like another classic EMD "F' or Alco "FA"-unit" or even an F40. But I understand that just to obtain any rolling stock or locomotive can involve a lot of money, even if donated.
