Kashif - Are You The Woman

- Singer/songwriter/keyboardist/producer Kashif wrote and played on Evelyn King's (aka Evelyn "Champagne" King) number one R&B hits "I'm in Love" and orn Mic"Love Come Down," Whitney Houston's first hit "You Give Good Love" and one of its follow-ups, "Thinking About You" from her 17-million-selling debut album Whitney Houston. He also contributed to her 17-million selling Whitney LP. His own recording career yielded 17 R&B hit singles and four Top 40 albums. He recorded several duets: "Love Changes" with Mel'isa Morgan, "Love the One I'm With" with Melba Moore, and "Reservations for Two" with Dionne Warwick. Part of the vanguard that includes early pioneers Stevie Wonder and Ronnie McNeir and his '80s contemporaries the System, Kashif helped to revolutionized R&B music through the infusion of the then-emerging affordable, MIDI/synth technology of the '80s. Music synthesizers at one point could easily fill a room. With the advent of the microchip, synths became more portable and had tonal stability and pricing (though most professional-level synths cost a couple thousand dollars or more) during the '80s. Like McNeir, Kashif shares the distinction of having two self-titled albums in his catalog.

80's music was the best HANDS DOWN. i miss music like this, I was 12 when this song came out and I fell in love with it. They sure don't make music like this any more.
Imma 90's baby. But I think I agree with you about the time period in a slight nod over the rest... although they def do make music like this today...the ppl at the top purposely blow up, celebrate and promote other stuff. The agenda of black self hate, ignorance, extreme sexualization and toughness is sadly more popular than self love, family, peace and romance...
Brooklyn's finest....and a one-time member of the B.T. Express...Kashif!!!
For the record this MAN opened the doors for Miguel, Trey songz, and others . There will never b another KASHIF. A class act!!!! G Boogie
And Kenny G and whitney Houston. Shes on this track actually.
I AGREE
Victoria!!...always easy on the eyes.
I'm so in love with the song!!!! Pure & organic soul music! Thanks Kashif Salaam
BROTHER HAS CREDIT FROM PRODUCER TO COMPOSER AND ENTERTAINMENT LAWYER. YOU GIVE RESPECT TO HIM .
Rest in Heaven, Kashif, my Mom and my uncle used to LOVE your music.
Man use to listen to this when I first joined Army in 1982. Then bump into this today and see he responded to someones posting. Not surprised performs from my day were always so unselfish.
Kashif + Whitney Houston = Magic
Both of them were outstanding R&B giants of the 80's, God bless them 2 lives in heaven.
George Benson + Kashif. Bliss. Try George Benson secrets in the night
This isn’t Whitney lol
Whitney Houston is singing backing vocals on the song. Victoria Rowell is the lady on the video @@jayw.1042
Look at Druscilla !! I've always thought this was one of the most underrated r&B ballads of the 80's. This is one of favorite ballads from the decade. Never can go wrong with Kashif. Anything with Wihitney's voice on it is PRIME.
Just saw Kashif on Unsung. This is one of the most interesting and inspiring episodes of Unsung! He didn't let his horrible childhood stop his determination to make a name for himself in the music industry. There was so much revealed about him that was really surprising to me. May God continue to bless you, Kashif!!
I watched it too. I am a young & restless fan too. jus noticed this was dru from the video. didn't know he was goin thru so much. music kept him happy. surely luv his music. wish U to be blessed also, Kashif!

Arthur elliot You hit the nail on the head when you said "before crack" f--d up the world. Thank God our people are coming out from under that curse!
Amein

Wow. I loved this song back then and I still love it! And Victoria Rowell IS the WOMAN! I think she's great as well.
RIP KAshif Saleem, One of the earliest musicians who changed the sound of music in 80s and transformed R&B. When I saw his name first time back on 2010 I was surprised how an American musician has such a Pakistani sounding name. He happened to be another invisible Muslim American who contributed immensely.
I remember when "Kashif" first hit the Big records charts here in New York! My Brother had just moved to Texas and, called and asked me to send him this side because it hadn't hit ,Texas yet! 1986-7. BC.. "before crack" fucked the world up! BondSt.Boo
Bless you, brother. Miss you and your talent.
Eternal life Mr Kashif Saleem!
RIP Kashif, loved your work so much. Another icon that contributed to the soundtrack of my life. I hate 2016

Whitney and Kashif! I love you guys, Thinkin Bout You is my jam!
Wow! This ia one of my all time favorite songs! Did you know that Whitney Houston sang the female part on this recording...they were labelmates back then.
The actress on this video did what was about to be a trend in the late 80s and early 90s where pretty people lip synch vocals of another singer. Iol
OMG! Drucilla's in this video!!!
Classic !!, one of the best songs of the 80s and if you ask me, one of my all time top 10 songs. Kashif, we can't thank you enough.
RIP Kashif with the beautiful Victoria Rowell in this classic 1984 video.
This used to be my JAM...Jheri Curl Days...I remember them so well!...Things were so much simpler. Music was so, so, good! I loved just about any and everything by Kashif. He was quite the talented musical entrepreneur. I wonder what he's up to these days.

pammish11 ..I totally agree with you on the childhood memories!!! Oh so great!

It's so sad that the younger generations are forced to accept what they pass off as music. 70's and 80's were great.
I was born in 82 and ur right rlove01...some of the performers today wouldn't have given this a second thought. Amazing how the talent still pushes on thru so many artist from the 70's and 80's. i still hum the tunes that grandma got me hip to.
I rememer Kashif during my childhood days in Nigeria, Kashif was massive back there in the 80s....hits like "condition of the heart", "help yourself to my love" and "Lover turn me on", brings great memories
I loved Kashif. He hasn't done anything in so long that it's easy to forget he was great. I love him. I still remember his live performance on Video Soul on BET, it was great.

Nice bio. Thank you for the information. One of my all time favorites in the secular, R and B music. Loved his voice. Nice to know he was even more successful than I knew.
This artist and his music brought back a lot of good memories. His music makes me remember high school and college days and the hopes I had for love in the future at that time.
Before Babyface there was Kashif. Kashif brilliant song writer and producer. Whitney singing in the background. And the lady from young and the restless on the video.. I miss the 80s era music. So much class and elegance and love💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
Very underrated artist.....love so many of his songs....nice to see his songs on You Tube..."Say something love" is my favorite....listen closely and you will hear Whitney Houston on this song....so many great songs from this artist....

I didn't know he sing this song, but now I know. I ❤ this song. RIP Kashif
I remember loving this song back when it first came out. They played the video a lot on video soul. But it never got the credit or popularity I feel it deserved. One of the underrated R&B songs on my list.
AWWWW I here Whitney in the back ground....Love this song

I love u kashif, I remember the concert you performed at the Uptown Theater in Kansas City, Mo, it was you and Lelo Thomas the best performance I ever experienced. Make one more album,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

This kind of music here is what made the 80s so great.
This is an unforgettable cut. However it reminds me of my ex-wife. I found out she was NOT the Woman. Thanks and R.I.P. to Kashif:)
