It sounds as though you have staked out a very nice living situation for you and your family, Matt. Having lived there all their lives, your children no doubt feel more like Costa Ricans than Americans. Have you ever considered the choices they might make once reaching adulthood? Might they choose to marry Costa Rican nationals and become completely immersed in the Costa Rican society? Or might they choose to return to the United States for higher education and wind up remaining there as do many children of missionary families I know? These were questions that weighed on my mind 40+ years ago when I was considering staying in Costa Rica. the choices we make have consequences on the lives of those who follow us. The older I get the more I realize this.

Thank you very much Richard! You are right that my kids feel entirely Costa Rican, in fact they've spend maybe ~two months total in the U.S. since birth. I just hope that they will make choices based on their own happiness, whether it's staying here or going to the U.S. I just hope I can open all doors for them!

Though short, your weekly video was still quite informative. Thank you, Matt!

Thanks very much Peter & Dianna! And believe me I would have loved to wax on and on about our house; there are a million things I love about it... but I also needed to record and upload this before some Saturday touring with clients so I didn't have too much time! Will be back next week w/a longer episode.

Did you say you have evergreen trees on your property? Like the evergreen trees from the PNW in the states, or some different cr variety? Did you plant it, or was it there already. If so, where did you get it?
We are in Playa Hermosa in Costa Ballena, and would love to have some trees from back home.
    Pura Vida.

Evergreen could easily be the wrong botanical word to use! I do not have anything with needles - I meant "evergreen" only referring to some of my trees that never lose their leaves... in the dry season in Guanacaste, so many do that they don't help much to provide shade at the hottest times of year. I planted an ojoche (ramon nut) that was 18" tall and it's now above the top roofline. Also the caimito that I planted at that size is basically three stories tall at this point; its leaves give incredible shade and the fruit is a monkey favorite. I have cut back the mangos or they would be sky scrapers too...
