    This is part 5 of 6 videos where we check out the Explorer & the Flying V from the 2018 USA range. By the way, all Gibson guitars are USA made, but for some reason, the core line of Les Pauls, SGs, Firebirds, Explorers & Vs is always referred to as the USA line. The Memphis range (semi acoustics), the Montana range (acoustics) & Custom Shop range are all made in the USA, but Gibson just give those ranges different names. Confused - so are we, but its been that way for a long time!
    Rob is playing through a Mesa Boogie Mark V:35 with a GFI Specular Reverb pedal & Lee is using a Marshall 2525 Jubilee head & is using an EP Boost & a Dunlop Mini Wah in the front & an MXR Carbon Copy & Boss Reverb in the loop.
    Next up are the Firebirds - stay tuned!
    Cheers!
    Lee & Rob

      You tried to contain too much rawk!! in one video. The convergence of the Flying Vee and Explorer co-efficients of rawkness caused temporal disturbances in the force and in turn made accurate information dissemination nigh on impossible. Please do not attempt such manoeuvres in future without proper safety equipment .

  • @audioman612
    @audioman612 Před 6 lety

    Since there were some comparisons to Fender, there are a few Gibsons that are worth mentioning.
    I think the closest to a Fender guitar that I can think of is the Victory MVX, which was an uneven double-cut with all 6 tuners one side of the headstock and a HS style configuration (I say style because the middle pickup was actually a stacked humbucker like a Fender noiseless pickup). There was also a HH-configured MV2. Both models featured coil split switches. Lastly, the victory series also had 1 and 2 pickup bass guitars as well. The single pickup Standard model was passive, while the two pickup Artist model had active Moog electronics (similarly to the RD Artist bass).
    There was also the Corvus series, which had a very unusual shape, and was available as a SSS model (as well as a single and double humbucker models as well).
    Lastly, there were the S-1 as well as the Marauder. Both of them had Les Paul-ish body shapes with V style headstocks, bolt-on necks, and Bill Lawrence designed pickups. The S-1 had a SSS configuration, while the Marauder had a HH configuration (with the bridge humbucker being a small "blade" model, resembling a larger single-coil in looks). These guitars resembled Fender Stratocasters and Telecasters (or Telecaster Customs in the case of the Marauder) in terms of tone, and I guess people figured that they'd buy a Fender if that's the sound they wanted. Angel Olsen is playing an S-1 these days.
    I've always wanted to try a lot of these guitars; especially the ones with Bill Lawrence pickups, as they look interesting. I've also really like the Victory MVX since I discovered it, but have never seen one in person.

    Both Rudoph and Michael Schenker were in the early version of Scorpions. Schenker left after one album to join UFO. After leaving UFO, he rejoined Scorpions to play Scorpions 1979 album Lovedrive..before going solo. The Ultimate V rock n roll axeman!

    LOL I was thinking of the Fender HM Strat right before Lee mentioned it. I personally think those guitars were really cool and underrated. Definitely fit the times of the late 80's and early 90's.

    You guys have got to wake up to who Michael Schenker is. Especially Lee. I hear by command you both to listen to the UFO album called Strangers in the Night. Its recorded live in America and is some of the greatest guitar work ever. It is a must have for any guitar player.

    Just a little suggestion for the editor, could you leave the stats on the screen for longer so that folks have time to read them all? Like, yeah I could pause or rewind to read them, but I want to hear Rob and The Captain play while I read them. Thanks.
