    Results start around 17:10 . Excellent topic and choice of ryes, good comments on the nose and the palate, good final rankings, but the guessing game I don't find interesting at all. I like to call those "high rye bourbons" because they are so similar to a bourbon mash bill. My personal favorite is the Sazerac and I always like to have 3 or 4 bottles on hand, here it is still under $30. I also like the Old Forester 100 Rye OK, which is $22 here, but in my bottle I found a slight non-typical, off-putting chemical aroma which also translates to the taste. It is there every time I have a dram. I also like Bulleit (95% MGP) Rye, $21 here, each bottle has been different but each has been enjoyable. Plus your comments swayed me to quit looking for a WT 101 Rye, it is sold here in the 1L bottle for $30. And for others who may read this comment, I bought the Jim Beam Rye for about $17 and it is NOT worth it. I ended up adding some sticks of toasted oak and applewood for a few weeks and that turned it into a very nice whiskey. Cheers until next time.

      Great insight! Even at 101 rye for that price is good value. Even number 5 is still leaps above some others on the market

    First time commenting. Great blind and really enjoyed the content. Love the Old Forester Rye as well as the Wild Turkey 101 rye. After this blind I am intrigued by the other three. I have seen the Knob Creek and Rittenhouse but no luck on the Saz! Cheers!

    Honestly, especially for being a lower proof, my fav SiB bourbon has to be Elijah Craig. I typically get buttery corn or popcorn, but with caramel- kettle cornish! Especially since they're generally store picks only. Feel like they make store pick SiBs more accessible than other brands. Great vid!

    Chris, you're great at doing your thing, please just be you and don't try to be Mash and Drum guy with the cheers, let's have a sip, and all that. And if you didn't take a lesson from them, I apologize, you're just doing the exact same thing by happenstance. I hate to be that guy who levels some critical-but-constructive feedback, but I do want to help. In addition, honestly, all their hand motions over there drive me crazy, even if the bourbon talk might be on point. ;)

    I usually have Rittenhouse on hand for cocktails and as an occasional sipper, good stuff. Might have to try the Old Forrester Rye, as I wouldn’t mind finding little more rye forward value whiskey that sips nicely. I haven’t tried the Old Forester rye yet as I also found that vaguely chemical taste present in their bourbon. That being said, I think I’ll give OF rye a try, if I like it neat, add it to the rotation.

    • @Bourbinsane

    Great video. I did a side by side tasting recently of Rittenhouse, Michter's Rye and Lot 40 Rye, and Rittenhouse blew the other two out of the water. It really punches above its weight! Delicious stuff. Pretty disappointed in the Lot 40 thus far. Cheers.

    Initial reaction before getting into video: why is Sazerac Rye in this line-up? I've yet to see one of these in the wild.

    • @Bourbinsane
      @Bourbinsane  Před 4 lety

      It's crazy how allocatation works. I saw it 6 or 7 times last year alone. Already twice this year...

    • @txmike1945
      @txmike1945 Před 4 lety +1

      Yep, it is the crazy allocation landscape. For example here Sazerac Rye is readily available, every store of one distributor (SPEC's) has multiple bottlest, but no stores of the other distributor (T.W.) ever has it. Many whiskies fall into that category, readily available in some areas, extinct in others. There are many others I hear about and would like to buy but just are never available here.

    • @brianbutler2531
      @brianbutler2531 Před 4 lety +1

      Actually I was wrong! New Riff is making its own rye. 95% rye 5% malted rye. No malted barley. Also saw they have a single barrel rye as well. Good stuff!
