Jon when you said the key is not to test how cold it is.. as a matter of fact it is.. I live close to a cold river and the key point before going into cold water is to adjust your main parts of the body (in this case you should let your chest/heart, back side of the neck) feel the cold water cuz you can get in trouble from the shock if you don't do it.. Don't do that again :) cheers

You should buy a pool heater. Then you can use it year round!
Do you have solar heating for pools there like hose that sits in the sun, the pool here is like 30C at the coldest and its virtually free, let me know if you need info?
