I'm a huge metal fan but I always dug Chuck D. His lyrics are heavy as fuck
musically genius but intelligent as fuck ...& despite just writing that still surprised that he's interested in a bunch of white folk musicians
Put aside all of Public Enemy's 'hits' and listen to Chuck D flow on one of their first 3 albums, unquestionably one of the best to ever do it.
Unsurprisingly thoughtful and eclectic. And rock on Brother Malik!
CHUCK D!
He's so right about the 90's and artwork.
The 90's were also the time when black metal was most prominent and no matter what people think about the music their album covers were the best in the industry.
"Go backwards" Beautiful!
Exactly. All my life I've used the "it's new to me" philosophy, and sought out music from the past. I have never been disappointed, and always enlightened. Right on Chuck!
Chuck D had/has the most authoritative voice in rap.
Unpopular opinion but to me he embodies what an MC should be and is in my Top 5
"I'm Chuck D, Public Enemy is the name of my group".. As if this needed an introduction, hahahahaha!! this dude is a walking legend!
Could always see the link between Public Enemy and the Greenwich Village folk scene, "music that says someing". Same souls, different generations.
Man, Chuck D is awesome
Love that there is a Grateful Dead clip with Chuck D talking about music
I saw Public enemy once ... they rocked it ... they were the opening act for U2 , along with The Sugar Cubes. I ain’t gonna lie PUBLIC enemy and the Cubes were a hella of a lot more entertaining than U2! ✌🏻
In staying in line w/ Chuck D's passion for books, check out "Let Fury Have The Hour: The Punk Rock Politics of Joe Strummer." Chuck wrote a nice preface regarding how the Clash inspired Public Enemy ("Strange Bedfellows"). The world needs more Chuck D's.
"Nation Of Millions" is hands down my FAVOURITE hip hop album
I love how Chuck D loves a wee bargain. I love this man. Cool because he's not trying to be..he just is.
Public Enemy and Run DMC deserve a lot of respect. Those bands truly proved that music knows no frontiers. Their collaborations with rock and roll artists made history and helped many rap performers all over the world. Music is the universal language.
Brother Malik 1:52 "Sho nuff" lol!
Chuck D! My all time favorite hip hop MC
ever!
I miss having record stores in my neighborhood 😩
+King Vic In my hometown, Victoria, British Columbia, there are two standard record stores. The two are Ditch Records and CDs and Lyle's Place. Both record stores are downtown.
brother Malik has just been awakened from a dream where he isn' t there and now he' s sad
I have never seen Chuck D without a hat man, it must be glued to his head, LOL
Chuck D always has been and always will be fucking awesome.
Yes, the beautiful, insanely talented Ms. Mavis Staples 🖤🖤🖤
Awesome. I've got to look into some of the stuff he got. Much respect for Chuck.
I recommend everyone explore Gladys Knights music. Amazing woman.
Seen public enemy in the mid 80s, Def Jam Tour 🔥🔥🔥
i love amoeba records. i used to go to the store in san fran.
First time i heard public enemy i was in my car going about 45mph, when Chuck D. Came on the mic it felt like i was going 100mph. One of the most authoritative voices in music.
Wearing that Grimey's shirt! Nashville represent!
Yea. With the tee representin' one of my favorite local Record haunts. Grimey's 8th Ave. Nashville...
Chuck - pullin things in from all corners plus some surprises - didn’t disappoint - dudes got every inch covered!
Im so happy I spent the time to watch this
Well done Chuck. I gotta take a look for that Jam Band book.
Wow...Public Enemy been my fav rap group since I was 10 in 1988. Now I see Chuck has same taste in stuff as me. Biographies, documentarys, ect.
Yes! "New" music is anything you haven't heard yet. My brother is regularly unearthing some obscure band that time forgot. Just go down the internet music rabbit hole sometime, you'll find some gems.
And I still have my Public Enemy tour poster!
I Remember Ordering Public Enemy @ House Of Blues On Cable Pay Per View Dope Show Ever!!!!
Knew I was going to learn something from Mistachuck. I didn't know Gladys Knight did anything with BB King. Many thanks.
What a interesting man he is..Good choices.
Dude is versatile which is why he's one of the best 😎
Chuck D mito assoluto.
Chuck is an intelligent fan of music, not to mention has one of the most ICONIC voices to spit any verse
Public enemy are legends!! I always find it strange when artists buy their own merchandise, you would’ve thought that they would be the first to get their own stuff 🤔. They should be consulted first.
Yes Sir, you gotta go back before knowing what's infront of you.
Man I loved that Midnight Special MTV before there was MTV that and Don Kirshners rock concert were the best shows on TV
Love to meet this man...
Legend!
YES! Grimey's Nashville!
I’m love Chuck D so much!
Chuck D is da man! Seems like such a cool dude
(2:05): Wow, what a high-caliber ensemble cast assembled on this disc!
Midnight Special was the greatest music program ever. So many huge, talented acts in their prime!
Yes best albums of the 90s Shania Turd! Must have book!
That beat at the end is HARD!
There needs to be more rappers like this today.
Chuck D your Awesome man!
I love Chuck D.!
What a nice eloquent guy
Grimey's Nashville! Quite possibly the world's greatest record store.... not named Amoeba! :)
Dude is just cooool as fuck, Chuck D is the real deal
Welcome to the Terrordome is like the last Unicorn...
That beat goes HARD
chuck d is awesome. shoutout to brother malik!
Chuck d and jello Biafra making a track together 👳 so sick .
I prefer PE with Flavor Flav, Terminator X and Professor Griff. But, show must go on....
Love what Chuck said.....new music? Who cares.....what's new to you? So much great music from years ago. Go seek it out :)
Quality choices
Best MC in history
So badass.....he has a Grimys T-shirt on.....Nashville town, that boy "D"
Chuck D ✊🏿
Chuck D!
Chuck D is a rennaissance man of the first degree...
Chuck D

Public Enemy = 1
Chuck D. The “D” stands for “Dope”.
chuck d, ever the historian
Big bucks from the power that's be..
THE GRIMEY'S T SHIRT I HAVE THE SAME ONE
THE KING! CHUCK D
The words of Percy Mayfield actually, Chuck, but you're forgiven - you have a lot of credit in the bank.
appreciate the grimey’s shirt
Listen, I dig Chuck D, but Mac DeMarco? The anticipation is killing me.
Grimeys Record Store tshirt FTW!
They didn't even comp the man a DVD of his own group? Damn , that's cold.
It Takes A Nation Of Million To Hold Us Back is better than almost every album anybody else has ever released, and it's not even Public Enemy's best album.
Teacher !
"This is Elvis Presleys drivers license"
"How'd you get that?"
"He gave it to me"
I own that movie and that part cracks me up for some reason
Chuck D. A living library
1:55 Brother Malik does not want to be there :D
Chuck D is the voice of god.
You know he spend most of his time on the couch, with his coffee table picks.
What's in the bag Chuck d? Black tail, skrewdriver and o magaxine
4:27 Duck Dynasty reference.
Guys great interview but that Snoop Dogg album cover at 1:09 is NOT an example of terrible artwork!! Pen n pixel classic!
public enemy and nwa shoulda collaborated
Try Ice Cube's "Amerikkka's most wanted", it was produced by the Bomb Squad and it's great
I don't think that would have been a good colab....one group was a little more conscious than the other.
public enemy and ice cube as well as big daddy kane did a song together called "Burn Hollywood burn"
That just wouldn't have worked. Sorry man, but they came from very different places politically and as people.
That Brother Malik seems like quite a fellow.
He is. Fomerly known as Tony King he was an actor in the mid-70's best known for playing Satin Struthers in the original film version of "Sparkle" with Irene Cara, Lonette McKee, Dwan Smith, Dorian Harewood & Philip Micheal Thomas.
Tony King was also in GORDON'S WAR, SHAFT, BUCKTOWN, HELL UP IN HARLEM and even had a small part in THE GODFATHER in the horse stable scene wearing the gray cap at the movie director's house out in HOLLYWOOD.
You guys have made me aware of a yawning chasm in my movie knowledge.
@@Pirate7X wow I never knew
I only came to the comment section to adress the brother.
No need, you did it perfectly!
