I was always a Ron Haslam fan, I grew up near where he's from, spoke a similar northern accent. As a privateer, Ron was often the underdog to Sheene & his factory support, but every dog has his day. Even an under dog. I remember Ron's van with a tribute to Terry Haslam painted on it following Terry's crash at Assen on an outfit. RIP Tez.

I was extremely lucky to have Leon go round Brands GP circuit with me on my Ducati 888 as I was in the same garage as the Kawasaki dealer.
Never forget it so thanks Leon for time.
    True gentleman.😎

Always remember Ron at the Isle of Man!
    Great rider, great memories!
I think he holds the record for the highest jump over Ballaugh Bridge, if I remember rightly!

Remember Phil in the MGP, bloody quick, the year he won - sad loss.
Best Ron memory was the Transatlantic Trophy Races at Oulton Park against Kenny Roberts and Steve Baker on the debut of the OW31s (1976 or 1977?), with Ron on a standard 750 Yam. Was watching from the paddock with lots of riders and Ron managed to split Roberts and Baker to finish 2nd in the 2nd race (scratching way beyond the limits!) having a tank slapper going over Deer's Leap every lap! - got a deserved standing ovation from all the paddock at the end. Also saw the black bikes and leather TT protest in 1981. Great memories.

Ron Haslam race school was excellent. Having a Backie with Ron on a CBR1000 fireBlade was epic. Three laps on S22s to warmup and too hot to touch. Ron said I will pick up the pace over the session so just let me know if it's too much.
Wheelies two up out of the corners and stoppies going in proved that road tyres are good enough if you have GP bike skills.
Despite having my hands pushing back on the tank, breaking into the corners I was riding up his back before the exit. Such skill and confidence.
Most people would not expect a backie to be as physical as solo laps. They haven't been with Ron...

Hi Leon, just a hint from someone who saw your dad enjoy great success in the legendary Macau Grand Prix in the early 80’s. You should have some memories of his glory days in the Macau Grande Prix in your showroom. Don’t ever neglect that achievement. Your dad was a multi time Macau GP winner and should be proud of it! 5 times if my memory’s right. He was a local legend. Every biker fan in Macau and Hong Kong knew your dad. I had a big poster of him on the Elf Honda (single sided front arm) in my room. I took pictures of him in the paddock of Macau GP and I remember you were just a little boy 😊 (you are in some pictures). I remember commenting to my friend that kid will someday be a racer like his father… how time flies! Cheers!

WELL EVERY SINGLE COMMENT HAS MISSED THE POINT ! Even you Haslam Junior !!!! In my humble opinion your Dad saved Honda yep saved Honda !! How cool was that ?? Even Mr Sheene bless his cotton socks made a few comments that day as he did !! Your Dad took a Honda vfr I think 750 on a wet race track and again not sure because I am old out of the box not race preped and not sure but came in second or third ????? From that day on Honda made a recovery from a very very weak sales point of view The V.F.R. was born due to your Dad ..Knowing your dad well not knowing but you get the drift did not make a big issue of this because he never ever did !!
Honda made the V.F.R. with reliability as 100% the goal due to their earlier bikes letting them down and over did everything So the V.F.R. became the bike to have in those days and to be honest a 750 V.F.R. is still the bike to have as an all rounder even today. Had a go on my son in laws last week and if the truth were told thay are still a fantastic bike to ride both as sport and to tourer Chain driven gears means they will go on for ever "if you look after them" sorry if some of this comes out as giberish but I am Dyslexic or however you spell the god dam thing

Unles I stand to be corrected your dad should have done what Barry did and written into his contract that every bike he rode he would keep at the end of the season
This was Barrys pension without doubt If your Dad did do this then thats the next vid "ALL THE BIKES HE RACED ON " What a collection that would be so as a bit of adice from someone that knows nothing do the same young man because trust me life is so so short !!!! befor you knbow it you will be 70 years young like this old fart !!
