Its actually insane how good this deck is in pioneer. Rakdos midrange had always been strong, but recent sets have really pushed it over the edge. I think vein ripper in particular was the card the deck really needed.
Funny how everyone has different opinions/feelings. Exactly how I feel for Pioneer is how you feel for Modern but also Vice-Versa. Spending cards on Modern that rotate every MH set makes me sad. I've been able to play my Seize/Push/Fable core decks for years in Pioneer now, modern not so much.
I guess you have not played mono green devotion, before the karn ban then ;) Spirits and humans are close to be dead, and many other decks fell complete out of meta too. In modern you have also a lot of staples. What i hate most about pioneer is, that only roughly 3 decks are really relevant in big events and the fact that some the match ups are extremely awful and even with side boards you are so behind af. To be fair the last modern event was 5 nadu decks top 8 but the meta is so fresh, lets see what will come.
@@C42ST3N ???? Green devotion has won a lot recently, check the pioneer challenges. They adapted from the ban, took awhile. Spirits has also topped recently so no sure where this is argument is based? Humans has never been good, even back when it was popular its win rate was like like 45%.

Decks like humans and spirits fall out of favor, due one particularly bad match up, but they do not become dead and plenty of players continue to put up impressive results with them. A concentration of decks at the top 8 level of pro events is common across ALL the formats. Just look at the last Modern event……gross. Most pros will always seek to play the 1-3 decks that are objectively the strongest, even if only by a slim margin, but Pioneer still allows for a variety of archetypes to be played, even at the highest level. Modern is far more guilty of the sins you attribute to Pioneer (meta decks making other archetypes unplayable).
I really like Kalitas in this deck. It's a good hit with Sorin on the board but the mana cost isn't so crazy that you can't ever cast it normally. It's just so good vs aggro to have the big body lifelinker and it leads to a lot of situations where an all-out attack by the opponent is a horrible idea.
Was this list you're using in the video an older one or updated one? Has the 1x Bitter/1xGo for the Throat/1x PWK vs the 2x Bitter + 1x Sheo's Edict in the guide
I'm surprised there have been no ban announcements for Pioneer in the last few months to be honest. Vampires and Amalia were both close to 60% winrate having very very few bad matchups. I feel like Thoughtseize should see a ban in Pioneer, it's the best one mana discard spell in a format where there's no other best spell for the other color archetypes (Lightning Bolt, Counterspell, etc.) Also Amalia combo is difficult to resolve on paper and is too easy to assemble, I'm not what could possibly go from that deck. If these bans happen then yes, Treasure Cruise should go as well. It would be a huge shakeup, but rn there are pretty much 3 decks in Pioneer and then the rest are nowhere near the same power.
Extra vamp to be able to use the bolt ability on sorin. It’s for sure the weakest point of the deck but it’s important to be able to use sorin even when you can’t slam a vein ripper into play
It’s a filler to help increase the chances of drawing the Sorin/Vein Ripper combo on curve (turn 3) and is an easy sacrifice target for the Sorin ability or can be made into a threat the opponent has to answer, despite being a bad card, which is a great scenario in terms of value.
@caseycuster5453 I feel like Modern and the older formats are incredibly boring precisely because the cards are TOO POWERFUL You have to stop comparing Pioneer to the cards, mechanics, and decks from older formats (which many players in those formats tend to complain about themselves, btw, all while stubbornly refusing to give Pioneer the time of day 🙄)

Is there a purpose for Dusk Legion Zealot? Just feels like such a weak card.
