    Thanks for the look at a fresh concept. I also agree that being able to take more friends along for the ride is driving center console sales. Manufacturers should try this innovative concept on a wide v bottom platform as well. You have a great point about outboards being more reliable and controlling costs and down time. As far as entry level, I think a 32 ft cat or v bottom might be a runaway best seller with this concept.

    A rear ejection seat is going to save “go fast” boats? Maybe. People are not suppose to be walking around boats going 115mph. People that want a toilet to be the center piece of their boat ( also known as center console) and want to go 115mph should be given a few and see how they like them. #1. Nobody will insure them for bodily injury. If you stand up on anything going 115mph you get blown off. #2. At a 115mph that cute sun roof becomes what is known in the world of outlaws car racing a “wing”. The car racers turn it up side down to keep the car on the ground. To put one on a boat would require an F115 fighter jet control system (fully autonomous from pilot inputs) to keep the boat from flying, in a bad way or submarining (never good unless the whole boat is on fire or full of drunk in-laws). So you see it’s the Beverly Hillbillies (center toilets) meets Formula 1 racing. They can be mixed but all its good for is salad dressing. This effort to make center consoles go fast is going to get somebody hurt real bad, just like 13 year old kids on jet skis with 150HP. The effort to make go fast boats more comfortable is impossible. Your 94 year old grandmother will never be comfortable at 115mph in an open cockpit Skater, without a toilet, unless she use to transport P51 Mustangs from the factory to the air force field and did a few out side loops just to make sure everything was working correctly.

    I think maybe in Miami the traditional offshore performance boat may have been forgotten but why? The 42 the 47 and the 38 fountain lighting double step staggered set up is extremely fast with the safety of a deep V. These Cats are blowing over at an alarming rate and killing all onboard. I started with a 30 foot Baja with factory big blocks ( Baja is not a hull designed to go fast). Then moved into a formula 36 SR1(TANK!! But slow) then to a 38 scarab AVS double step with Merlin 540’s and M5 pro chargers. First dyno pull was 1268 had to do a pulley change to get down to a thousand HP because the drives I put on were IMCO SC on Ext. Boxes but those just were not big enough. Blew up 5 gear sets. With a side by side set up it ran 111. Realistically it needed a complete staggered and surface drive set up and 125-130 would be attainable. I don’t care what these cats come up with technology wise they are still dangerous as hell. I’ll take a 47 fountain double step with staggered 1350’s any day and drive around those 38’s and 40 foot cats in any water with a 2-6ft chop. I think the look of the cats is what draws people. And the 47 is like a condo up front. AC AND A GEN SET. My bud had a 42 that was yellow with purple trim that ran 140 yes 140. I witnessed it several times. You may have seen it at LOTO in years past The rite hull deep V will be around forever because out in the salty water they are so dominant. Just my 2cents. #DEEPVFORLIFE

      @candidamulrain4573 Před 2 lety

      Wow. So you can be happy sinking 200+gallons per hour?????
      Cats will still outrun your fountain with more range. A 46 Skater, 50 Victory or MTI will eat the rough better than any fountain ever has or could.
      Yes the initial price is higher and that's to be expected. Cats still rule. Canoes with pads and may be better than the log they updated. However stepped and padded canoes will always need more fuel and power to compete with a well designed cat.
      If you wanna spend more at the pump then that's on you and your accountant.

      @@candidamulrain4573 I think the point was and is that how many deaths from a blow over in a skater in the last 10 years? How many on a MTI? Etc. Then research how many deaths from a blow over in a deep V? There are different types of rough fresh or salt water that each runs better in. I have owned a couple 110+ mph boats and the Cat hull will not dominate a deep V in any water. For the 200 extra in fuel that’s false, they both run the same motor and drive combos normally. If you are speaking of center console with outboards they aren’t even in the same county when it comes to speed and performance. I don’t care how many outboards you hang off the back. It’s a dirty secret in the go fast boat world that no one talks about, cat hull can kill you and it will with just a minor mistake at the helm. They have killed a bunch of pro captains.

    • @candidamulrain4573
      @candidamulrain4573 Před 2 lety

      @@justinbriggs8275 Blowovers only occur when a cat/tunnel exceeds it's design speed. The speed at which the tunnel generates more lift than the boat's weight. That speed varies by tunnel depth, trim angle and wind direction and speed. Note a tunnel crossing a rooster tail reduces that speed by reducing tunnel height and increasing dynamic lift.
      Blowovers are therefore more likely during races when trim may not match a headwind or speed exceeds design limits. A simple way to prevent blowovers would be to add weight to compensate for added lift at higher speeds or when gusting is expected in the weather forecast.
      What you haven't spoken to is that these incidents with well designed offshore cats like the 46 are rare to begin with and are typical racing incidents. Flips, trips, barrel rolls, stuffs and spinouts in deep vees have also created a mandate for safe canopies. Does that mean Vees are unsafe?
      To be clear a Cat is safe when used within its design limits. It is never wise to overpower or reduce the weight the hull was designed for and then blame the boat. However a cat with a design limit of 150 can run safely at 120 in normal conditions.
      All seafarers know that there is a sea for every ship. If conditions are poor, backing down is the sane choice. A 46 Skater can cruise at 80 in 4-6 foot seas without any worries with a any decent helmsman. I assume you can drive safely so you should never fear a cat.
      Lastly the cat by packing air reduces hydrodynamic drag and since the aerodynamic drag it creates is less than the hydrodynamic. It becomes obvious that any vee of equal weight will use more fuel. So the cat remains more efficient.
      With the narrow sponsons, the cat will slice through chop easier. With the air packed tunnel it will have softer landings after going airborne.
      To close you can praise the vee for being cheaper but it rolls more and cannot keep up with a cat of equal length and power. However if it was a short drag race from a standing start, the vee has less weight for power so advantage Vee. In bad conditions a cat may need to slow below its minimum airspeed for lift and will slam the tunnel more. A vee can win there. Under ordinary circumstances however a long crossing a cat will be faster, more comfortable and burn less fuel.
      Cats have more possible innovations and improvements possible, can add more creature comforts and will continue to grow in popularity,

He died in a blow over at the Cumberland poker run. He went to pass and hit the wake boat in front of him to close to the boat which created the blow over. There have been many I mean many blow overs resulting in death in the “super cat” world. I. Any think of one in a deep V. Forgive me but you are extremely bias to the cat hull and your comments seem very knowledgeable and professional but IMO they aren’t accurate at all. I can name 20+ professional drivers that have died from blow overs in the last 10-15 years. And now the rookie weekend warrior with some money can go buy a 150mph cat rite out of the factory. I can’t imagine the undocumented deaths from that world of go fast boating. When can you remember even 1 pro being killed in a V? I have owned these boats. I would never put myself or my family on a 150 mph cat. The chances of a blow over is to great. If you don’t like big V boats or you think they are for old
      People that’s cool with me but to blatantly argue with the our facts of deaths in cat to deaths in V is crazy. And to even think about comparing gallons per hour or efficiency is our ludicrous because I can’t think of one guy I know that has bought a 150k to 1mill go fast and said to himself “ I think I’ll take this one because instead of spending 5000 a weekend i could spend 4300!” Not a factor. Go search 47 lighting with merc 1350’s in here. Boats in Sweden and has go pro stuff in the ocean at 100+ that would brake your cat hull into pieces. Hard to argue with facts. Enjoy the water!!

    Boat styles and designs come and go. One reason center console boats are popular is the usable deck space they have and their adaptability for multiplayer uses. And they can often run almost if not just as fast as a speedboat. The speedboat style is just flat out not as adaptable nor space efficient. A big motor corvette may be sexy and fun, but for the same price, your going to sell a whole harbor full more of crew cab Silverado 4x4 pickups with the same size high performance motor. It just where the market and money is flowing.

      Opening up the main cockpit is a major step in the right direction. Most buyers, looking for a fast boat (such as these $250k - $1M boats) still want it to be fast. These boats will be faster than most open bows and center-consoles (cleaner profile with less drag) while still having more utility and flexibility than the old small-cockpit speedboats.

    • @candidamulrain4573
      @candidamulrain4573 Před 2 lety +1

      Open bows in offshore isn't safe for a go fast. Most center consoles stay below 100mph.
      An open bow cat is doable. However for offshore the tunnel height needs to Increase significantly.
      Add more tunnel depth and sponson width. The added sponson width will offer room for berths and porta potty.
      On another note, entry level is where the real sales are. a 22-26 cat on a deeper tunnel with wider sponsons will outsell this sales floor cobweb and dust bunny catcher.

      In flatwater that open bow and extra folks seated forward is fine.
      However add chop and strong offshore swells to standing waves and beam seas and the ability to take weather may be the reason you buy a closed bow.
      Structurally the closed bow is also stronger in meeting waves. More people forward also makes it harder to keep the bow above the cresting waves.
      So enjoy the ponds and lagoons with an open bow, but get a closed bow if you want triple digits on the ocean.

    BS, the main issue with the new speed boats is price. $300k-$900k for a speed boat is ridiculous. That’s why the tried and true 1990’s-2000’s classic vee bottoms will always be here. I don’t care how many times I have to rebuild my motor or drive, redo a interior, fuel consumption, etc. it will never get close to the price of one of these boats.

      @@adrianjudd5327 Open bows in offshore isn't safe for a go fast. Most center consoles stay below 100mph.
      An open bow cat is doable but unsafe in a stuff. Can only work for offshore if the tunnel height is increased significantly.
      Add more tunnel depth and sponson width. The added sponson width will offer room for berths and porta potty.
      On another note, entry level is where the real sales are. a 22-26 cat on a deeper tunnel with wider sponsons will outsell this sales floor cobweb and dust bunny catcher.
