- Even if both countries have closely similar titles to their National Anthems, South Korea (ROK) derived their anthem from the old Korean Provisional Government anthem with the same lyrics which had the tune of Auld Lang Syne. On the other hand, North Korea (DPRK) composed an entirely new anthem while keeping the name "Aegukga/Aegukka". Both countries lay claim to the whole mainland. Several attempts had been made to reunify the entirety of Korea. Unfortunately, until today, both countries continue to have tensions.

@@user-xy7dt6zl8d nah. apparently in hangul romanization it is indeed "Aegukga". while chosongul use old romanization therefore "Aegukka".
technically speaking, SK romanization is more correct because 애국가, the 가 = ㄱ(g) + ㅏ(a).
but in korean g and k is basically the same. it's g but turned k especially at syllables end.
I prefer the North Korean anthem because the South Korean anthem sounds depressing to me, besides of the good sounding of the North's anthem.
Personal preference ofcourse, but both anthems are beautiful in their own ways, all anthems are, try reading the lyrics of both anthem in your language, you'll see the hidden beauty
