So glad you enjoyed it. I think this is an under hyped series. It's not a big world-building and sophisticated magic system type of fantasy series but there's something about Carew's writing style (crisp, great pace) and his character and plot development that really worked for me. I had never heard of it either. Have to thank @LienesLibrary for that recommendation.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Bought it because of your recommendation, the last time I read off your recommendations it was Brian Lee Durfee's series and that was absolutely amazing.
Awesome, I hope this one clicks with you as well!
"I will never forget the points of it, it will be stuck in my brain forever." That's exactly it. I haven't felt this eraptured over a book since I was a child.
I enjoyed all three books in the trilogy. The ending is fantastic! Looking forward to hearing what you think about the rest of the series.
I can't wait!
Somewhere @LienesLibrary is smiling right now 🤭
Lol facts
Wow! I don't know if I've ever heard you this hyped for a book! Def adding to my TBR! Can't wait to get to this!
I hope you love it!
Man holy crap I have book 1 and 2 on my shelf and I picked up book one last night and read the premise and the prologue and then lo and behold this morning I wake up and I look at CZcams and you have read book 1 I've been excited about reading this book and now I'm even more excited, and believe it or not this book has a lot more reviews than you think over 1,000 reviews with 54% of them five-star book 3 has the lease reviews at only 164 but book 3 didn't come out until December of last year so it hasn't been out that long and you are not the only person that thinks this book and series is great anyway man another great review keep up the good content
I hope you end up loving it Johnathan!
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews I'm sure I will definitely sounds like something I'm going to be into I ended up not starting it though I started the Bring Down Heaven series,The City Stained Red by Sam Sykes, pretty awesome stuff as well if you love great characters and non-stop Mayhem and Chaos this is the book for you Reading This Book Is Like a Dungeon & Dragons game non-stop different kinds of creatures different kinds of witches different religions and factions you should give it a look you might like it anyway have a wonderful day
My dude you are off to a banger of a reading year. Seems like almost everything you’ve read has been top tier.
Yeah I've read some really dreadful ones too, but in general it's been a wonderful start to the year!
The reason your opinion differs so much from the rest of BookTube is that you are genuine, honest, and do not pander to authors to get interviews, shout outs, etc. The number of booktubers that clearly hold their tongue is astonishing.
You dont have to say it or agree, but it is clear as day.
This is why you have quickly become my favorite booktuber. Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much Michael, you are too kind!
Best recommendation ever! Loved the 1st one and on to other two.. Simply amazing. Super great full that I found your channel.
So happy you enjoyed it!
Second one... Fantastic as well
Well, I have to admit, I only "liked" the book, and I'm debating about whether to read the second book in the face of a growing TBR. But you've definitely made a case for it. I'm very glad you liked it.
Thanks Eric!
Wow this makes me very happy I bought the whole set already
Nice! Hope you enjoy!
Finished the trilogy on your recommendation. Very good fantasy. Third book bends a little towards subverting tropes and so experienced fantasy lovers might get more from it - still good for beginners.
Oh I read those, the Wolf and then the Spider. I liked them, wich is good as its new fantasy, but I didn't get annoyed in than they behaved like modern people. Not a very magical setting but with lots of nice touches, the Northerners were very cool and I liked the little tidbits of the cultures (like the Humans than lived just at the south of the N wore a lot of colors to contrast themselves with them).
Yeah all great points!
I was hoping for a Matt video today!!!
I just bought this book a couple of weeks ago. It'll be the next fantasy series I start once I finish Kagen the Damned. Your video has me even more fired up to read it.
Awesome, I hope you enjoy!
Have you read Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth books? ... They are the marmite of the fantasy world (you'll either love them or hate them).
LOL that's a hilarious description. I will eventually, but it's not currently on my short/medium term TBR.
An excellent review. I'm gonna pick it up for sure
I'm glad you've decided to keep using that objectively perfect thumbnail.
LOL yeah I've gotta keep it running!
Unrelated, but you should check out The Spear Cuts Through Water. You might not like it, but it has gone under most peoples radar and im trying to give it the attention it deserves. My best read of 2023 so far
I remember a discussion of this book with Allen (had me ROTFL😂), where it was explained that the Northerners was inspired by «what if the Neanderthals had survived and evolved alongside Humans». Also many of their names is inspired by different cultures, suggesting that the Northern Kingdom is a refuge for «Northerners» coming from different areas, inspired by legends of giants throughout Europe/Mediterranean. Also the Northern «Spy Agency», the Krypteia, gets its name from the Spartans, where the Krypteia was assigned to harass the Helot Slave Population and stop any slave rebellions.
The first book is ok, but the next two in the trilogy really step it up to greatness.
That's wonderful to hear!
I am so conflicted, I am trying to finish mort, slowly reader here and since I have come to learn to read your tone. I am 100% sure will love it, just like empire of silence. Which I can’t stop thing about it. I keep shuffling my TBR list is a mess because of you. Thank you
LOL welcome to my world! That's how my TBR goes as well.
Finally I am getting it about to start, just finished black company and the second book in the farseer trilogy.
Happy reading to you! 🎥
Thanks as always Safina!
I was at my used book store yesterday and saw a half off copy of book 2. Figured it would be a while before I got to it and I haven’t read book 1 yet, so I put it back…maybe I should go back and grab it. 😅
If it's half as good as book 1...buy it!
Hardcovers are all going for around 100 bucks online. 😳
Thanks for the tip. Purchased
Nice!
This is very encouraging!
I liked Books 1 and 2 but wasn't blown away enough to finish the trilogy. Maybe I should retry it.
Very nice review.
Thank you!
Oh wow, didn't hear of this book till now. I really love ASOIAF and if it's along the same line , chances are that I am gonna love it too. Adding to my list. 😊
I hope you love it Angie!
I really enjoyed this entire series!
4/5 stars for me.
However, I would not hightly recommend it to everyone.
This is a plot-driven political/military fantasy.
80% of the book(s) take place in meetings, bedrooms, and tents.
It's not flashy, but if you enjoy politicking and planning with a touch of violence then this is the book for you.
OMG am overjoy you like it. It's one of my top favorite fantasy. The Wolf is great. The Spider is amazing. The Cuckoo is mind blowing
Oh wow I can't wait. You have me hyped!
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews Hope you'll like the trilogy.
The second two are even better!
Awesome to hear!
One of my fastest DNF…
Lol. Why are you the way that you are?
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews childhood trauma seems a likely answer
A shame you DNF it
@@HakolBeseder09 really not for me. I found the political stuff to be hamfisted and I didn’t connect with the characters. It’s a cool concept though and I’m glad readers enjoy it. Just not for me
Ok, I took your advice and just ordered it.
I hope you love it!
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews well I took your advice on Justice of Kings and loved that so I'm pretty confident! 👍
@@MrHighlander666 Awesome!
I liked book 2 the best of the series. Book 3 had some problems, a particular one is one of my least favorite tropes, but it wrapped up well. But for me it goes book 2 then 1 then 3.
Well good to hear book 2 is even better!
Listen I can’t keep buying all these books. I just started Malazan 😓😓😓😓(but did I order it? Yes.)
LOL, sorry!
Just finished book 2 and I thought it was better than the wolf! Starting the cuckoo now 😊
So awesome to hear!
Great! Another book to add the list. Too many books , not enough time😅.
Yeah I feel that 100%!
With that being said, I'd really like to know your opinion on the Blood Song by Anthony Ryan. It's not grimm dark, but definitely "rated R." Great story and great characters, with very limited magic elements, at least in the first book. I bet you'll like it. Personally, I really enjoyed all of Ryan's books. I'm very surprised he isn't been mentioned more often.
🤣 Great intro
Thanks Ryan! I finally learned how to zoom!
But it is not in ur top 10 list.
I haven't finished the series yet.
Sorry FBI agent, I had this book in my Kindle for a while but I cannot abandon Malazan since I am ~650 pages into Bonehunters.
I heard so much about this trilogy, I think I read a bit but never gone that far into the book since I think my mind wasn't in the right place at the time.
Hope you enjoy it if you ever get back into it. Enjoy Bonehunters, the ending is amazing!
Well shit.
3 more books on my TBR.
I'm going to have to stop watching your videos for awhile, lol.
LOL sorry Larry!
