⁠I’m pretty sure the card drops are still based on which enemy is holding the card. Back in chapter one, Cards and Items were only dropped from the enemy closest to the right side of the screen (the 1st enemy basically) iirc. I assume they still are. Not sure if the drops are guaranteed but hope this info helps with your card grindings.

Guars are the best way to grind thorns, the one in plainstown is the best, single enemies means better chances due to a thing with only right most enemies actually having a chance to drop the card
