    Outstanding work! This is what I have always dreamt of doing in my E38 shorty sport. You could have just flashed the 4.4 DME with 4.6 software allowing you to keep the original keys and EWS. I think the only difference is the emissions stuff between E38 and E53 which may cause a check engine light.

    Spoke about sound of engine during first crank to raise oil pressure. This is something one can only learn by DOING. The piston cranking rhythm should be even, equal and steady. Any disturbance heard in that rhythm tells the mechanic -> STOP, investigate, ask what did I miss? This is especially important when working alone w/o a second technician to say something like: Hey you only hand tightened the valve cover bolts, you forgot to torque them.

    Why use a 4.6 torque converter? Larger converter is heavier and will take more power to spin up.

    Ed, you really like the B4? I put new Sachs dampers one my Schnitzer about 6.5 years ago, they have covered 45k but don’t feel that good anymore with the factory Schnitzer spring.
    I have a full set of B4’s in my lockup with a set of Eibachs to replace my rusty springs.
    You think the B4 will be better than my Sachs?

    Hi Ed greetings from New Zealand, love your work with all things Bimmer. Hey so i have converted my x5 4.6is to manual and rwd. it fully starts and drives but I am having one small issue when i try to go full throttle just above 3000-4000rpm in any gear the car starts the cut power for a split second and just keeps doing that till i back off the throttle. So my question is did you have to change any of the modules out from the x5 to e38 car? or did you use the e38 traction control module? Thanks Richard

      Have u done coding? 100% abs cutting power off

    • @richardtam3480
      @richardtam3480 Před 3 lety

      @@The777Garage Yes I have coded the car to get started and coded to manual. but i agree it has something to do with abs. Though i took the car out for another drive tonight and found a way to rev out all the gears. if i hold the gas pedal at a very shallow angle say pedal is at 95 degrees stationary if i have my foot at 105 degrees it lets the car rev out. So could be throttle postion as well. I just dont know what to do from here. Any ideas Ed?
