    I honestly feel like the game is in a pretty good place right now. SOTO wasnt great but the balancing is good, almost all specs are viable, there is super hard content, there is medium content, there is easy content, there are like a billion different maps and events to farm, not bad at all imo. Specially with the new DLC coming up.

      @@KornOil funny you bring that up because i am doing all season 4 maps right now for Vision. So far i havnt struggled too much with finding enough people. Usually its enough if i tag up like 15 min before the meta and then have a little patience. Dragons End on the other hand is still really popular. There is almost always a farm train going on. My favorite part of GW2 is that the content that was available 5 years ago is still there. I feel like with other MMO's... their vertical progression just kills the content there are even less than a year old. Great chat!

      vertical progression is not killing anything , its the aproach of the devs , you can legit put vertical in gw2 but make gearing obtainable in raids and strikes and all fractals , and make all raids and dungeons give the same gear with different powers and stats or some bonus sets for each gear , so you can have a large amount of builds , thats the issue with gear design , companys lack a lot of imaginations which is crucial in mmos , making something out of the ordinary compared to other games , but they just focus on braindead vertical and horizontal instead of adding some good touch to them.

      @dantheredplayer3498 tbh no game does true stupid vertical, WoW did for a long time, but you need to realize that for every "evergreen" fractal WoW released 8 mythic dungeons for every boss that was added WoW added 10, FFXIV has no issue with vertical either due to the sync system and the fact that all classes are on your character and leveling takes actual time
      I've played 1500 hours of GW2 (which is admitedly a lot) but still a lot less than FFXIV or WoW even when I skipped full expansions for these games.
      There's a reason to this, GW2 is focused on making content that stays but not on content that is relevant. When was the last time shattered observatory was relevant ? Or any HoT raid wing etc... There's content that has been bugged for years without fixes, or had design issues for years. The only way GW2 stays relevant in the future MMO landscape is by actually making it's content relevant.
      Oh and WvW is pretty cool (if it wasn't left to die for 10 years straight)
      Tldr : GW2 needs to make ALL content relevant (even old content should get patched) or else what's the difference between a bunch of dead systems and 2 relevant one in a horizontal design and a vertical one ? As a player I'm still gonna play what's newer anyway especially if the alternative is solo farming dead and bugged GW2 dungeons like a mindless drone

    • @me-yh2kb
      @me-yh2kb Před 2 měsíci

      I think vertical progression can create content. WoW for example after and expansion or two the raids are soloable, and become a part of transmog runs you do in your spare time. This also has the added benefit of introducing players to raid mechanics in an environment where they can experiment without fear. Typically, in vertical progression you can get geared to do LFR level content really quick, then your on the treadmill and always have a reason to log on and something to work towards that increases player power.

    I just got to the point where you were talking about how much easier the game is... I think this is an interesting point because it absolutely has got easier BUT it is still significantly harder to understand / learn that some of the other popular MMOs.
    I will use FFXIV as an example because I have played it recently. In that game I make a character, I like fire wizards so I make a blackmage.
    1. I level up and as I do skills and traits are unlocked. I get the same ones as every other blackmage, no decision making or choices.
    2. I get to the end of ARR (the original end game). There is one currency I can collect which I can use to buy my best in slot gear. There are no choices, there is one set of gear that has the stats for my class.
    3. I am now the same as every other maxed out black mage at that level.
    4. If I continue to level up and play the game into the later expansions, 10 levels later I do the same thing, no need to think or make choices. I just get the gear. Note, that his gets very marginally more complex at max level if you are tackling savage/ultimate but overall... not really.
    In GW2 I make my ele. When I hit level 80 as a core ele there are already millions of gear, trait, skill combinations (do the maths, it is actually quite insane). There are so many mistakes I can make. So many things I might understand incorrectly. I have no idea as a new player what works or why or what combination. I also barely understand the boon system, how that interacts with my gear, traits or skills. Let alone which weapons to use and why etc.
    It really is significantly more complicated when you come in blind. Now I am sure someone will come along and say, "yes but actually there are some obvious good choices and you can look up builds", sure. But that does not help the average new player who still does not understand why and the many of them that won't open a guide/build website, or who don't have the knowledge to make adjustments based on what they can actually get / unlock etc.
    There is a lot more that can be said but I do think this is important to be aware of, I also like how you approach this!

      Guild Wars 2 is the wrong kind of difficult. It's a very heavy knowledge barrier that you need to get through, but once you are through that the entire game becomes very easy. It means the game is quite hard to approach as a new player, but ends up quite unengaging once you know how.

      @@silimaurtelemnar9373for a game as old as GW2, you don't fix this problem by removing the wall, but by making what's on the other side of the wall absolutely worth the effort.
      Do not remove this complexity, instead reward the player with gameplay, in game rewards, and other ways for them to make and keep making happy chemicals afterwards.
      Show them that learning and purposefully scaling up those walls can be fulfilling and fun

    • @SponTen
      @SponTen Před 2 měsíci

      @@silimaurtelemnar9373 I don't really see this complexity as a problem. Yes, there are definitely improvements that could and should be made, but this huge process of learning everything as you play is one of the main reasons that I've played GW2 for more hours than any other game.
      Like, it's okay to not be optimal. It's okay to fail, repeatedly. It's okay to not fully understand things immediately. It's okay to have many different choices. It's also okay to have the opposite of all of these.
      GW2 is just different to FFXIV (from what people say; I haven't played it, and likely never will) and WoW. It's great that we have very different games that cater to different audiences.

    As someone who hasn't raided much at all, but still wants to, after I get a couple of my other ingame projects done and sorted, I've had this idea of ANet implementing something similar to the Rush Bonus Events, but making it a bit more spaced out. Rather than having a week for an overall content type, they lean into the season of dragons a bit more and make it so that for the first 2 weeks The first 20 Fractals get incentive and bonsues. Maybe even give the players an ascended gear box and some basic agony resistance along the way. Then the next weekly cycle more fractals get added into the mix, some strike missions here and there.
    Once T3 Fractals are completed, the bonus event moves on T4 Fractals and Raids. 1 wing at a time. 1 every 2 weeks. This would give most players enough time to first get used to harder group based 5 man, at first, then 10 man content. Followed by T4 Fractals and Raids.
    A lot of people are too scared to give them a try, same as me. Building up the confidence and overall player knowledge in regards to GW2's systems by easing them into it via Fractals and Strikes seems like a good way to me. It is afterall how I got interested in it.

  • @3renegade3

    I feel like the fractals system got difficulty scaling right a long time ago (recent fractal releases aside), tier 1 fractals teach you the basic mechanics and then the complexity and difficulty slowly ramps up, if you play fractals 1-100 it's a pretty great system which in theory should create a very healthy pug scene. The problem is the way people engage with it. It's very common for people to try and skip ahead to higher tiers without knowing wtf they're doing and that leads to some pretty frustrating experiences when you have to waste a lot of time explaining basic mechanics to idiots in high lvl fractals. Strikes suffer even more from this because in many cases there just isn't a beginner friendly entry level version. This is why KPI and all the other bs comes in but to me the obvious solution is more difficulty levels and hard in-built restrictions, you just can't get to the harder content without completing the easier version 10 times or so. I truly believe this would lead to a much healthier game overall, people would be more willing to engage if they could reliably find groups at their competency level, and frankly if that were the case I think many more players would work their way up to more difficult content.

    The problem about GW2 is that it is a player-skill-based game. New people needs a looot of time to catch up on combat system and boons strategy. That's one thing that zero to hero COMPLETELY fails to capture. We all expect new players to buy exotic gear and be able to do meta events or strike missions, but it's not like this.

  • @kaponos
    @kaponos Před 2 měsíci +1

    A comment on the Eparch discussion at the end there. I am of the opinion that meta Eparch is pretty perfect health wise.
    There are a few extremely simple mechanics, all of which increase/decrease player damage. The HP is tuned to a point where if players engage with the mechanics as they are supposed to, the fight is smooth and easily clearable, with the clear time related directly to the percentage of players that are mentally present.
    If a critical mass of players are afk, physically or mentally, the fight turns into a horrific slog that is doomed to fail. It feels like an ideal difficulty for open world content
    There is an argument to be made about how little the group on the boss has to do compared with what the rift group is dealing with, and how that leads to a boring fight for most of the squad, but I always do rift group so I’m biased.

    On the topic of the community being apathetic towards the developer and the game they are playing, has been an ongoing issue in the circles I have been a part of, and some even larger communities, since the HoT days, where WvW started to fall apart permanently into disrepair and no dev resources was given towards the mode, where PvP competitive scene vanished and was deleted, and it just continued for years later with horrible balance patch after horrible balance patch.
    The reason why it is only now coming to the rest of the game, is well, the devs are no longer 100% into PVE and Story, so all the casual players are experiencing that disregard for their wishes and how bad the implementation of a story can be.
    When I have to think about the entire development of the game, same issues and cracks appear since the launch of gw2, and they keep making them, instead of refining their processes where the lack of common sense doesn't exist.
    Apologies for the doomer post, but has been my "main" game since November of 2012, and I am very much excited for what there is to come, but to say that the game had the potential to be something great, and then proceeded to fumble its greatness, is an underestimate to what they had done with the game they made.

  • @maakonis11

    My take on this is repeatable content. Most engaging repeatable content is ofc
    WvW and PvP. But for PVE I think Anet should focus on events and events for everyone,
    that means core Tyria. We have events but they all are years old. Newest event upgrade
    was legoland but that not enough.
    There will be new summer swimsuits going on soon and I
    hope there will be some nice fun events to come by.
    About balance, well if you balance about excel numbers it wont work, you need core understanding about class play(this is problem for Anet as
    I understand they are short of balance team members)
    MMO is living being and you need to understand that mmo players are at same importance than developers,
    you need to comunicate ALL the time. You need to know what your other part of the game feels about what you do
    and when they do not understand or missunderstand you NEED to explain. Like last balance patch stream, wft was that?
    Cool topic was about guides, I have watched 1000s of videos about what to do to get skyscale and many other achievements and tbh if I would do that
    on my own its almost impossible. I think Anet went a bit lazy on this. Dunno they expected for content
    creators to fix that?
    p.s. So Anet catered to content creators for not explaining anything them selves? :D
    p.s.2 Remember Teapot when you said: stop DOOMING!?
    p.s.3 Siluette youre are my hero for saying things as they are, good guy Teapot for making this video :)
    people, peace not offending anyone :)

      @71775926 Před 2 měsíci

      I'm really frustrated with ArenaNet not making some of their most difficult combat-related achievements repeatable. Two of the longest standing complaints have been: 1. Leechers in open world metas, 2. Difficult to find people to clear challenging group content achievements (like HoT's Migraine)
      Making achievements like Shatterer's No Fly Zone achievement or Tequatl's Power Play achievement or HoT's Migraine achievement repeatable would go such a long way to solving these two issues. Will there still be leechers in metas if we implement additional event rewards via repeatable achievements? Yeah, no doubt. But would it encourage more fence sitters to choose engaging the content for better chances of getting more rewards instead of choosing to afk and leech? I certainly think so.

    This constant notion of having to grind thousands of rifts for the new armor is getting on my nerves, it's just wrong. Do the daily convergance and you'll have it in a month or two. That's it.

    • @ginster458
      @ginster458 Před 2 měsíci

      I think that perception is due to the convergences launching at a way later date-- a lot of the very invested players (which are usually the ones who watch and comment) are the type to pre-grind and try to get the new shiny thing as soon as possible, so a lot of players went super hardcore on rift farming so they could buy the armor asap. More casual and slower gamers can now just do a daily convergence and slowly drift towards full obsidian, but to the majority of players that actually comment, obsidian armor looks like an alternative-less grindfest

    • @MightyTeapot
      @MightyTeapot  Před 2 měsíci

      This misses the point a bit.
      1) Convergences really aren't much better lol
      2) You can indeed just do convergences, or even just buy essences directly if you really want to, but that doesn't change the fact that the most direct method of aquisition that isn't timegated is incredibly unfun.

    • @ginster458
      @ginster458 Před 2 měsíci

      that’s definitely true, I’m still baffled rifts got through playtesting like that. I think if they didn’t just do the small rift grind and convergences, but rather added something like the leyline anomalies, make it mobile small meta events that rotate through the core maps, starting every 30 minutes, giving more essences than regular rifts and less than convergences. Better than sprinting through the Soto maps trying to get to the next one, more engagement back in core maps and get players exposed to Soto that don’t have it (and rifts are already happening there anyhow). You could even make it circle from map to map and really incentivize map completion for those leggie starter kits.
      And I wish they‘d added a collection for the first armor set with less essence cost and then higher prices for the second and third like they did with LI.

    9:10 I'm a midcore player. I mean I can play any build in the game and I own all legendaries. Ya know, midcore stuff... Lol. Dude trying to flex and also pretend like he's humble.

      I feel like this isnt really true. I find myself able to partake in 90% of content fairly easily, however with the hype around LCM and the balance of a "NORMAL MODE FRACTAL" led me to the criticisms i voiced. i play this game anywhere from 8 to 10 hours a week and never have any issues finding groups (just through the LFG) at extremely niche off-peak play times. I honestly feel that my lifes' schedule is more extreme than most people and somehow Anet has managed to maintain an MMO philosophy that i can actually interact with despite this. I'm all for a GW3, im also all for more expansions in GW2- assuming the studio can actually provide content to the various tiers of players. We didnt even talk about PVP, which they have gotten nothing for a long time, and they are actually giving them something in JW which is something that should be given attention and praised.

      @@SilhouetteGaming1 Youre kinda proving my point then. Up to KOCM everything is ez and doable with Pugs, everything beyond that is a big investment and needs to be done with the same group of ppl.

      @@julianl4430 Yeah, but with the NM,CM,LCM split its likely going to be resolved. I'm not making any promises, but i feel like Arena Net understands that the vast majority of players want something challenging but not static mandatory. As far as encounter design aspects- the jury is still out. but as far as difficulty scalings it appears that they understand this point. (hopefully this comment doesnt age like milk, RIP)

      @@julianl4430 The existence of two bosses that you can't do on a limited time budget doesn't really support your point. The other 99.9% of the game can be pugged.

      @@NikeonaBike Yes and those 99% are the same for years, theres not enough content coming. 1 or 2 strikes a year is not worth for me to log in or even buy an expansion.

    Cal balanced me out of the game. Homogenized balance fails because it’s not fun. I’ve been gone for almost two years
