Sea Fishing UK | Back Fishing For Cod at Kingsdown, Kent

- 2 weeks on and I'm back at Oldstairs Bay, Kingsdown trying to catch some more Cod. This Autumn is one of the best for Cod in recent years around the Kent coast so it would be silly to pass on catching a fish that has come to gain the nickname "A unicorn" because of how scarce they are.
This could be class as part 2 to the video I uploaded 2 weeks ago from the same venue • Sea Fishing UK | Cod f... where I managed to catch 3 Cod from a Kent beach in 1 session.
The high tide was the same rough time, the tide coefficient was the approximate same measurement, the weather was kind so it would be silly not to head back to a productive mark and try again. This session was a little bit more testing but persistence paid off!

Great to see a local beach fishing well and see codling being caught after many lean years well done.

me and my son went night fishing last Saturday at Shakespeare beach (my first time ever night fishing) and on my second cast out I got my first ever Cod (on worm bait) , it was a good 42cm and I was well chuffed 😀

Soooo nice to see codling on our beaches again.
Loved the video as usual, and nice to see you helping the less experienced anglers, and no disrespect to them, even after years of fishing, we are all still learning something new.
On that note, thank you for trying my tip on hooking the squid through the eye.
Last Saturday I did the same and ink poured out, doesn't happen all the time, but I believe it can give an edge.

Cracking session mate, full of fish, had to laugh when you started to talk about cod. I've never had one, but a cod is a cod, same as a bass is a bass. Small ones are schoolie bass, but still a bass. Nice to see you taking a few dogs for the table. I'm the same, but of a pig to prepare, but plenty of them about. Tightlines buddy👍👍👍

Too right on the cod or bass. Don't let anyone try to belittle a catch by giving it a lesser name or classification. Some people are lucky to have fishing grounds with larger fish in residence on their door step but for the majority that don't, a infrequent species is good no matter what size

Hi greg you ok fella, cheers for the vid nice one. Looked like you all had a good time, n y wouldn't you when the codling are about. Weve just hit the whiting in last 2 weeks. Have been around the 35cm mark. I ve heard that one or two codling have been caught in last 2 days. I'm hitting it hard now the next 6 weeks. All the best greg from GRIMSBY.

A good session on the codlings I am surprised you don't peel your squid makes them more visible and allows more sent out

I have noticed that Yoy don't appear to strike when you puck Yoye rod up, Yoy need to do this especially when there is a lot of weed as the fish forage in the weed - Tight Lines AllanX.
I always strike into fish, that's the way to set the hook🤔🤦🤣
Wouldn't mind knowing how you prepare and cook the doggie do you keep the bone in or fillet it off? And batter or breadcrumb? Thanks for shara fantastic session Greg
I take the spine out and then cut it into 2 inch pieces. Sometimes I just flour and fry but normal panko breadcrumbs and a bit of chilli flake😋😋
No bone, just skin it, nice batter, deep fry, just melts in the mouth, with just the cartilage left, just like a skate wing
Couple of things more so with the weed about, if you have your hand a bit more up the rod, more leverage and you can run the line through your fingers to check for damage as you reel in
But I find that if my hand isn't on the reel seat where the neutral balance of the rod is then I struggle to control it whilst reeling in
@@gsp well you would as i dont think you have the butt between your legs, how do you check for line damage in the dark, also your long distance rigs, the bait clip wants to be as close to the weight as you can get it

I haven't heard of them in the numbers of East Kent. I think Dungie is still on the decline
ive always been told that a cod is a cod when it reachs double figures if its under then it is a codling ,is this true.
Well a cod is a cod, that's the species there is no species for codling so I think it's upto the individual as to what they want to call it. I'm calling them cod as there is no hope of me getting a dbl figure out of kent😂
i have herd that the bigger codling are being caught from chesell beach ,i must visit this beach soon before i become immobile as i am a pensioner and also disabled.
There are bigger cod getting caught at chesil and at Bristol channel now. I don't think we're going to see cod that size around Kent. Chesil is definitely worth a visit as you never know what will take your bait👍🎣
