- My Roomba was making an awful squeaking sound that was louder than the Roomba itself. I thought it was unfixable until I discovered this trick. Using a spray lube that dries out, it can be pinpointed onto the Roombas wheel axle. A quick shot of lubricant on the axle, followed by rotating the wheel to work it in will stop the squeak.

Squeaking Roombas appear to be a huge problem considering how many commenters have said that this video has helped them. I still haven't had to reapply the lubrication, so the effect lasts a very long time. There are a few possible sources of squeaks. The wheels can squeak and make noise like my Roomba did. The side brush can also be noisy and squeak. Make sure that all the hair is cleaned out of the side brush. The easiest way to do that is to unscrew it, take it off, and clean off any hair wrapped up around it. The main drive rollers can also make a noise like squeaking or rattling. Remove those, clean them, and add some dry lube to the pivots if needed.

I'll be darned - it worked! Also did the base of squeaking spinning brush after removing it. If you poke a tiny hole through a paper towel that's over the wheel, putting the straw through the hole helps with the overspray. Thanks

Amazingly, this actually worked (Roomba i7). No more high-pitched squeaking sound when the Roomba drives forward. I used the same "Blaster Dry Lube".
Recommend folding some paper towel around the nozzle and wearing eye protection, because the lube tends to spray back.
Glad it worked and good recommendation. I have been hit by lubrication backfire in many other situations, so safety glasses are good advice.

It turns out that lubricating the wheels did not eliminate my particular squeak problem though. While observing a test vacuum after performing your procedure, I noticed that my squeak seemed to coincide with the side brush activity. So I removed the side brush and discovered a wad of fine hairs and fabric fibers wrapped around the shaft and squashed under the brush hub. Removing that wad finally solved my squeak.

Thanks for the great video! I was about to take my i7 "Robby" apart to diagnose. I didn't know that dry lubricant spray existed. I was tempted to try the graphite drops I have for my oven which would've been a mess. Another handy spray to have for robot maintenance is canned air. I'm going to the store to buy both. Cheers!
Thanks! I found a bottle of dry bicycle chain lube with graphite. Put a drop on each axle and it still squeaked. Turns out is was the little front wheel. It pops out pretty easily, and the axle there is visible. A drop on either side, spin, wipe with paper towel, and reinstall. And no more squeak!

If you don’t have dry lube, spray regular lubricant on a Q-tip and and apply just a little bit to the squeaky spot.

I just used a silicon bicycle lube in very small amounts. I know it will attract dirt, so next time I will use my bike chain lube. Rock n Roll brand chain lube is a particulate dry lube suspended in an evaporating cleaning agent. You drip it onto the pain point so no overspray issue.

Haha I didn't have any dry lube or wd-40. Ended up using my bike chain lube. Didn't even think about the drying effect. Worked like a charm though!

Also applied to the front wheel and side brush hole (in case). But it’s now squeak free- thanks. Used WD-40 dry ptfe (with attached plastic straw design).

I would lube the front rotational wheel also. Mine squeaks the most from there.

Similar problem with my Roomba 694. The culprit was the beater brush so I unscrewed it off, cleaned the space, put some dry lube and screwed it back on. The brush seems to slow down and stop in some instances which was also another indicator for the noise. When you screw the beater brush back on do not over tighten. The brush should move freely and will work like normal if done correctly.
Was it the side brush (the one that sticks out from under the vacuum)?

Check if the wheel motor is getting power. If so, you may need to replace the whole wheel module.

Thanks for the idea. I've tried using it twice on the wheels and the spinning bristle which seems to work but 10 or so mins later it comes back again. Haven't tried taking it apart yet. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
What kind of lubricant are you using? The same as in the video?
Yup! Same exact one. Am I starting it too soon after applying the lubricant? Do I need to let it sit for awhile before running?
@@AceFotinos I would apply it, spin the wheels by hand to work it in there and allow it to dry before running. This is a dry lube that uses a liquid to dispense it. Maybe if you are not waiting for it to dry, it could be working the lube out? Not exactly sure. The fact that it works for a short period of time means that you're lubing the right spots. Try to lubricate a few more times before giving up on that, it's a lot easier than taking it apart. If you have access to compressed air, you could try to blow out any dust around the moving parts before applying the lube.

Mine was the spinning brush - horrible SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK SQUEAK- it was the plastic rubbing against the plastic, so I sprayed some silicone (Blaster industrial strength in the green can) on the bottom of it and now spins smooth as silk!

Mine isn't squeaking but I keep getting an error that the right wheel is getting stuck. Do you think this would fix that? Would you say that your squeaking was a result of friction/stiffness? Cuz I think that's the issue with mine...
It may help, and at least it won't make it worse, so give it a try. Another issue could be something like hair or string wrapped around the axle, which would require some disassembly to reach and clean out.

It sounds like it's rubbing up against something. it sounds like there's a faint clicking noise when I turn it.
My Roomba 600 series has lost its vacuum thus loosing its cleanings ability. I have searched the web and have not found a similar problem
Tried lubricant but it turned out to be dust/hair under the green/yellow spinning brush in front of the left wheel looking at it from upside down.
I also noticed a few loose screws. It’s back to running quiet.
What silicone spray work
Silicone spray will stop the squeaking, however Silicone Oil is like a disease and spreads everywhere. It will get to your tires, and make the tires slippery. I recommend only using a dry (or drying) lube.
I got my Roomba i7 2 weeks ago and mine has the same problem right now it however only happens on carpets I turned the thing off and was rotating the wheels a little squeaking was coming from it I then cleaned the side brush and was rotating that to it seemed to squeak to. it only does this on carpets no hard wood flooring so could it be the extractors the extractors on mine are ripped up on the sides that may be the issue I have no clue what is wrong with this thing I'm hoping somebody like you would have a clue what was happening.

@@nflyoungboy3267 That sucks, and seems like a poor design that should be addressed. Mine was purchased used, so I thought was due to that. Based on the number of people watching this video, it appears that it's a common problem.

Yep, the squeeking is gone and hasn't returned after a few months of use after lubrication. If it comes back, a quick spray is an easy fix.

Is WD-40 different?
Yes, some have used it successfully. WD-40 stays wet and runs. I recommend a dry lube like I used. So far I have not needed to reapply it since the video was created.

It seems to have improved with the squeaking on its long stretches but when it bumps into walls/changes direction or is on carpet, the wheels still squeak. Not sure if i did something wrong or if the prior WD application is playing a factor

WD-40 is not ideal. Although popular, and it has some good uses, it is not a good lubricant for this purpose. It is messy and runny, and therefore likely to get into the tires, which will reduce traction on the floor. It will also not last a long time. Ideally you want a penetrating dry lubricant like the one I show that dries out leaving a film of dry lubricant. amzn.to/2Yk1vh1

I just used wD40 worked great
It works to remove squeaks, but wd40 can damage some plastics
My Xiaomi was doing same thing however came from the brush easy fix: grafite.
Even use this for my car, sunroof all the plastic parts the glide.
