It’s an eerie sound, an even more uncomfortable image and then it cuts off into silence onto a black loading screen and you’re half expecting a second jumpscare. Having just rewatched it, I still get the dropping feeling in my gut after it cuts to black. Hyper real induces fright, but uncanny valley sticks with you long after the scare. It’s especially why I’m such a big fan of PS1 graphics imitating horror games.
The death sprite animations in fallout 1 and 2 were always unnerving to me for that reason. Especially frank horrigans death animation at the end of fallout 2. Not sure why older games have that uncanny feel

Well they couldn't really afford it, it was an ambitious startup that tried to get in early on the whole 3D CD based console thing, but then the PS1 happened a year later and everyone forgot about the 3DO.
3DO may have few good games but it's a time capsule of pure concentrated 90s vibe. Especially how the drastic increase in storage from cartridge to CD made developers temporarily insane like "OH SHIT OH SHIT 650 MEGABYTES WHAT DO WE FILL IT WITH" "Calm down Fred I got this, it doesn't matter what we put in there just so long as there's a lot of it"
