    Having had the time to use this drill for the required tasks this review i purely based on my experiences of using it and not a straight out of the box review.
    Yes I know the belts are not aligned, was doing the belts whilst looking through the camera. This was noticed in the video edit, and sorted afterwards

    for all who see a bit of wobble in the drill press when you use it for the first time, there is a nut behind the emergency stop button that allows you to reduce any play in the spindle. You will have to remove the emergency stop button to access it, but its quite simple to remove. one small front facing screw, followed by two nuts inside the stop button housing. make sure its unplugged before attempting this... Thank you for the video James, it makes a change to be able to see one on the Parkside/Lidl tools, that's in English.
    I also brought one of these & haven't had the chance to use it much, but what for what I have, I am more than satisfied for the price I paid. Also, I agree with the belt changing facility & find mine a bit tedious, when trying to alter it, but like yourself, I got there in the end.
    Once again, thank you & I'm going to subscribe, as I hope you will post some more ideas on here, as I found this brief, but to the point & well produced.
    Kind regards,

      Glyn Bryant thank you Glyn for the wonderful message and subscribing. I didn't want to drone on to much so thought I'd just film the basics. I have was using it the other day and it wouldn't drill any wood once pressure was applied. I opened it up and found the front belt pully grub screw had become loose, and was there for floating on the shaft. I removed the grub screw and applied some thread lock to it and secured it in place. Maybe worth checking on yours? Thanks again, regards, James

    I have just bought a new one from Lidl and it appears to have vast improvements on the older model. Lever and locking nut to adjust belts, lazer cross hairs for pinpoint accuracy. The 3 levers seem to be sturdy as well. I would recommend this as a good DIY drill press.

      Hi, sorry for the delayed reply. Yes there have been some good upgrades on the new one, but the biggest downgrade for me is the chuck size. My drill I think can take up to a 26mm drill bit. Where as the new version can only take a 13mm drill bit. Fine if you only want to make small holes, but I've used bigger drill bits then 13mm a few times

      @peterlucas8629 Před 3 lety +1

      @@JamesManCave Hi, the max drill bit size is 16mm. If you you need to drill bigger holes I suppose you could always replace the chuck with one that can take bigger drill bits.

    I have a Record Power (Made in England) DMS 26 pillar or stand to which I can attach any kind of drill. It is heavy, sturdy and robust, and steady as a rock when bolted down, and very accurate as a consequence. There is practically nothing that can go wrong with it. I have been using it for over twenty years and certainly would not change it for a toy pillar drill. This should be helpful to some.

    You will quickly burn your motor out by not using a vice as per drilling your hole freehand at ~5'20 where the Forstner bit jammed.
    My pillar drill, which is very similar to yours, came courtesy of Lidl (Penryn, Cornwall), it should have cost £49:99 but for some reason I was only charged £29:99.
    The lid of the pully wheels rattles like bu££ery so I placed a large piece of scrap polished granite to quieten it down.
    My only gripes are the 3 handles of the press are way too short to get any leverage on them and that there are no grease nipples for greasing the bearings of the quill.

    I bought one of these pillar drills from LIDL a few months back. While drilling a metal work piece, the drill bit grabbed in the work piece and stalled the motor. The drill will not now start. I checked the fuses and they are fine. Measuring DC resistance between the mains Live and Neutral pins (while holding the start button down) shows an open circuit. I fear the motor may be hosed. There doesn't seem to be any motor protection circuit to save the motor in the event of a stall.

    My father very kindly bought me one of these to help with drilling dog holes in a carpenter's workbench I was making. Unfortunately the drill doesn't have the power to make 19 mm holes in hardwood. It's also not very accurate. But then as other people have said, what do you expect for the money. For simple jobs for the average DIY'er, it would probably be fine.

    • @JamesManCave
      @JamesManCave  Před 5 lety +1

      Can't say I have used it to drill holes that large in hard wood, but have drilled a few big holes in pine and metal, albeit 5mm ally, but has been fine for me. And I don't seem to have any issues with the accuracy, maybe exchange it for another?

      To be honest mate, drilling 19mm holes in hardwood, (and it's European beech, which is a very hard wood), is asking a lot of this drill. Even my hi spec DeWalt hand drill struggles to make 19 mm holes in hardwood. (My DeWalt SDS drill has no problem though.)
      I can't really take the drill back as it was a present. My father bought it with good intentions to help me drill these holes. I'm probably going to end up buying a more expensive drill from Axminster. (the woodworking shop.) Authough even their cheapest pillar drills cost a few hundred pounds.

    If you are happy with your purchase and it’s good value to you and how you work then it’s good value. Most of my tools are cheap, my drill press is even cheaper than yours, but I only make A2 photograph frames for my images which I give to a charity I'm involved with to sell. I’ve disabilities that mean I won’t be making any furniture any time soon and it will be longer before I do any construction so cheap serves me well and it’s usually good value. If I did do heavier duty stuff that I made money for myself out of then 'good value' would be defined differently. The things that aren’t are the things I've bought and never used like a circular saw.
    Aldi do a great table saw online for £89.99 the same one under the Scheppach name at Screw Fix is £159. But Screw Fix are over priced, unless you are a builder who needs a lot of specialist screws today or some specialist gear, then they are good value. The problem with Lidl is they don’t have any online shopping because they had a sander a while back I was interested in.

      Had this same problem a couple of weeks ago. There is a split pin inside the teeth on one of the cogs . It had snapped ( probably because I'm a heavy handed brute) I managed to replace this pin and reassemble the spindle and it's working perfectly again now. I do think it's just a poor design feature combined with being to heavy handed when applying pressure to your workpiece. Should be okay if you take it slowly when drilling and let your drill bit do all the cutting work. GOOD video by the way

      From memory the chuck ranges from 3mm to 26mm. If you watch the build video of me putting together this drill, you will see the chuck only fits on to a shaft with a slight tap from a hammer. If you can find a chuck to fit on that shaft then I can't see why a bigger chuck wouldn't fit

    James I must say I have owned one of these machines for 3 years now and have had nothing but poor quality throughout my ownership the emergency button fell off while I was using it exposing live circuits, the drive for the pillar drive sheared and mangled the return coil spring the shear pi is only very tiny and cannot withstand any drilling pressure and to get the machine to drill accurate in any direction is nigh on impossible again like my evolution table saw a bit more money for a better quality is on the cards now

    • @JamesManCave
      @JamesManCave  Před 4 lety

      Chris, that's a shame to hear that, sounds like you may of had a bad one there. Mines been nothing but a great addition to the workshop. My brother in law had the stop button issue, but apart from that he's been happy with his as well. 😕

    EU warranty is 2 years for consumers. Lidl is also very easy on returns. If you don't like the tool just send it back and they give the money back.
    The best tip would be; save the receipt:)
    The tool quality is very low on Parkside tools. It's like a lottery. But it definitely is a nice way for beginners to get accustomed to new tools. Buying an expensive brand and giving away the parkside is always possible later.
    Like for me, I got their plunge saw and found out that plunge saws are great. Now if I really need quality I would not hesitate to buy an expensive brand.

    • @JamesManCave
      @JamesManCave  Před 5 lety

      These are exactly my thought, ive found park side tools more then capable of doing the job, but you will always want that little bit more from them. Fitting the chuck is awkward on this if you don't fit it straight, it only doesn't run true cus it has been misaligned

    • @ABaumstumpf
      @ABaumstumpf Před 5 lety

  • @richardowensnr6243
    @richardowensnr6243 Před 6 lety +2

    The table does move under pressure, there is too much play in the drill shaft and the chuck key is a poor fit, not very good for precision work, but not too bad given the price, better than nothing if only used occasionally, but next time I would go a bit more up-market, the reveiw is quite forgiving...

    • @JamesManCave
      @JamesManCave  Před 6 lety

    • @richardowensnr6243
      @richardowensnr6243 Před 6 lety

      Check the video from 5.00 to 5.18, you will see it move under pressure, which is ok for woodwork, but not so good if you need to be more precise...As I said not bad for the price, I have mine for over a year, but I did change the chuck for a keyless one...

    • @JamesManCave
      @JamesManCave  Před 6 lety

      Richie Ole ahh, what you mean is the table flex's with pressure applied. Yes I had noticed that. But the holes I've drilled are extremely square. I have made several drill holders with this drill, and getting the drill bit out of the hole sometimes posses a bit of a task as they are quite tight

  • @stevensimons4677
    @stevensimons4677 Před 5 lety

    Alligning the belts, surely at 3:26, surely the back belts are-not alligned, and therefore your belts would have worn out very quick, or did you correct them, and with a direction of the handles not feeling good under pressure...create your own secondary stabilizer..!

    I went to Lidl, bought one, started assembling and saw that it wasn't worth that 80 Euro i payed. It wasn't worth even 10 euro. Aluminum quill, plastic gear, no bearings on idle pulley, wobbly and crooked spindle, pressed thin sheet metal housing and bench, out of center drill chuck, no possibility of spanning of the belts beside plastic studs that put the pulleys out of ballance, cant drill steel with any pressure, very low quality, pretty unusable, and perhaps even dangerous to use. I returned it in 2 hours. Got my money back, and i'm sattisfied with that shopping more than ever in my life. :-)

      My friend, i'm not a speaker of the Italian language, but from what google translate tells me, you bought the drill to stop you breaking drill bits with a normal hand held drill. The cover on this model is secures via a bolt, so if tighten properly it shouldn't allow the top to pop up as you mention.It also seems that the holes you tried to drill became wider then the drill bit you used? That sounds to me like the chuck wasn't fitted square on the shaft. If the chuck is slightly tilted, this will be extremely exaggerated at the end of the drill bit. Hope this helps, and the refund you got you spent wisely on something else
