I agree with what you said about going to markets in tourist-less places, the already decent price just saves any messing. Saying that I do find getting really stoned and wandering round big city markets and getting into laughing number-shouting fights or calculator pokemon gets some decent prices.
You should try to go to stores in Wisconsin and try to barter with them just to see their reactions xD

I'm 4th generation overseas Chinese from Singapore and I can speak fluent Mandarin. When I go to these knockoff markets in China (I have only been to markets in Shanghai and Shenzhen) they tend to start from prices similar to the markets in Shenyang actually. Most of the time I try to act as if I'm local (the Singaporean Mandarin accent sounds not too different from the accent of Mandarin spoken in southern Fujian where our ancestors came from).
