      @@davidnorton5887honestly though this really happens often.
      Labor, rental, fixing it 100% correctly, plus all the internal paperwork to pay the body shop, track the process, ect ect it is all an expense for the insurance company.
      There are many cases where you really can spend a couple hundred or thousand and fix it.
      I had an engine fire a while back was quoted thousands to fix so it was “totaled” I bought it back and it literally needed an engine harness and some vac lines.
      Now obviously this isn’t ALWAYS TRUE. But wins exist.

    never throw away/sell the "junk pile" until the car is finished. Brackets, clips, screws, etc are still in the original pieces and most can be reused if not broken in the accident (that front bumper is a good example). With VW/Audi, have a good plastic welder setup; it can save you from having to buy copious amounts of plastic bits they use in their cars.

    Thats how I got my 2007 Camry with 130k miles for $1500. My good friend was the original owner since new, some old bag backed into the Camry in a Walmart parking lot and the insurance co claimed "$8900" in damage. They paid out $8700 for the car and my friend retained the car for $1500 buy-back and sold it to me. A bumper cover and a driver side taillight and I've driven it without issue for a year, it is a rebuilt title but its a Toyota with 130k miles I'll drive it till it dies for that price lol

      lol love these story’s, I backed into a UPS truck when I was 16 in with my first car which was a 95 Ford Taurus SHO in 2007; insurance totaled it out, bought it back for 500.00 with some rear end damage but nothing major (it was 3,000 used with around 80k miles) anyways I ended up getting a 99 Contour SVT with around the same miles for around 4.5k, now being 17 (I liked that car a little more).. anyways, I sold the Taurus to a friend for 700.00 I think (wrecked) all he did was throw on a pick and pull bumper cover (same color) and new rear tail lights, he fixed the trunk himself to get it to close and open; anyways this kid who would have normally never gotten a car in highschool now had a decent used car for around 850.00 after all said and done…

    I would have kept my '05 Mercedes E320 CDI diesel when it was totaled last August. Bought it for $4500. There was just over $5000 in damage done when a lady t-boned me. I was offered the car for $1800. But it told to me as "Owner Retained SALVAGE" and it was explicitly stated that it would have received a salvage title. "It's road legal, all it needs is a headlight." I don't know how they do it in New Jersey. Most states, you can't legally drive without a bumper or fender, it's a hazard to pedestrians. You can get away with it if you have an excuse like, "I'm driving slowly to the body shop." but that doesn't mean it's legal. Also, get that condenser swapped now, it'll leak eventually and cost more when the car is assembled.

    I know i wouldn't give away any of the "broken" parts until all replacement pieces are found and fitted. even the pile of broken bits, if there's any fasteners in there, you might need them.
    I also would try and go with used OE parts, even if they require some finish work, as you know they'll fit. Aftermarket, some times is a bit miss on the hit/miss scale for proper fitment.
    What would really be sweet would be to find a donor car that's been wrecked in the back end (or even a fire) that you could pick up for a decent price. Even if cost the as much as this one you'd be ahead of the game.

    I am stunned the airbags did not deploy. If they had, would be a much different story. They will usually total them on that alone. Most airbags are set to 17mph max do not sure how fast this car was going, but if that was a 13-15mph crash seems like a lot of damage.

    • @brian5o
      @brian5o Před 7 měsíci

      Judging by the damaged front-end parts, it looks like the impact was higher than the airbag sensors, almost like it ran under a trailer on a semi or something and missed the sensors. How lucky that the airbags didn't deploy although I'd probably still replace the sensors just to be on the safe side.

    • @GreenGuruBmore
      @GreenGuruBmore Před 7 měsíci

      @@brian5o hmm that is interesting didn’t think about that or realize where sensors were exactly. So are they lower on the front end somewhere? But yeah if the impact was higher/hood I could see them not getting hit. Great point.

    • @DustinHasVideos
      @DustinHasVideos Před 7 měsíci

      @@BEARTAC0S maybe it’s a Volkswagen thing (as this is a vw sensor), and maybe it’s that the sensors are doing a better job of determining the actual risk, but I’ve seen many other cars that would have deployed the airbags in this scenario. Not saying their is an issue, but I would want to check the sensors to be safe

    The buyback doesnt always give you a clean title car. In Georgia, it doesnt. I have bought back one and had friends that have and got salvage titles

    • @superspeeders
      @superspeeders  Před 7 měsíci

      There SHOULD be consistency throughout the states. No reason the same car has a clean title versus a salvage title depending on the state.

    • @TriCountyMotorsEastman
      @TriCountyMotorsEastman Před 7 měsíci

      @superspeeders Maybe it is dependant on the insurer. But I have personally bought back cars and they definitely had a salvage title. I also have had friends bring cars to my body shop wanting me to be able to help them get a rebuilt title after they bought back personal cars. I do know not all states handle salvage titles the same. I bought an infinity once with a clean title but later found it had salvage history but they got the branding removed by processing it through Texas, who at the time didn't put any branding on rebuilt titles like Georgia and many other states do. Now that being said the car you bought back with a clean title would continue having a clean title when taken to other states. I have this information for Georgia from experience, schooling for auto body, and Georgia dealer licensing classes I have to take every 2 years. Now things would be better if there was constancy between states, and at least now with vehicle history reports, you can find history ones have tried to hide. However, scammers and dishonest people are always looking g these inconsistencies to make a quick buck.
