Absolutely, you can do serious harm with this. The bores should be soaked overnight and all the fluids checked. Ether is a bodge fix where the engine needs to run at all costs and consideration of the longer-term engine health is not a priority. This Trans Am is a classic and deserves more care! If you know that an engine has sat for a long time, there is of course an initial excitement that comes with wanting to know if it will run, however that excitement should be tempered and short-cuts avoided to avoid engine damage. Endlessly cranking over an engine in the hope of starting it is a sure-fire way to costing more in repairs.

@@berniereme5864 Easy Start is better for winters and for rigs. They're doing the procedure all wrong, check the plugs, cap and rotor, fuel is most likely stale after sitting for 20 years, change the oil. When you're starting a dead car after sitting for years use new fuel and spray it in the carburetor when needed, open the throttle wide open it needs all the air it can get after sitting that long, you'll be doing this 3-5 times(maybe less) until the new fuel reaches the carburetor. You can also use WD-40 down the plug holes? but leave it for 20 mins. A battery would do wonders if had one.

Tap the carb with the plastic end of a screw driver. If that dont work carb cleaner. Try a different gas source. Check fuel filter and replace it. Shawn
The other tow truck driver Jonathan on a different you tube channel doesn't use starter fluid because it does damage to the cylinder walls. He fills up the bowls and does an iv . Fix the pump diafraghm first then let some trans oil go through the carb to lube up the valves etc... save the engine!

Well it could hardly be a warm start could it. Take plugs out and whizz it over to make sure it has oil pressure. Then check fuel delivery to carb, drain tank and put in fresh fuel, check carb and float bowl for crud and clean out jets Replace plugs but check for a spark as well. Make sure it has oil in it Then try it
Give it an IV. Take a small gas can and attach a hose to it. Remove fuel line from carb and attach hose from fuel can. Suspend it from the hood and let it gravity feed into the carb. It won't flood and will run until the gas in the can runs out. More than long enough to load it on a trailer.
wow you guys aren't very good mechanics. never ever cold start one that's been sitting like that without checking a lot of things first. first look at the oil dipstick. does it have oil? is the oil clean? if it has oil and it's clean then take some light oil and spray in the cylinders through the spark plug holes to soak into the rings and lube up the cylinder walls. pull valve covers and coat the springs ,rockers and lifters too. put the covers back on and spin the motor over a few times with the coil disconnected to pump some oil up in the galleys and then let it sit for while. preferably overnight. then come out and try to get her to start. bring fresh gas and run a line to the carb using gravity to feed it. check while it's turning over to see if fuel pump is pushing old fuel out the line, if it starts let it run a few seconds then shut it off and look at the cooling system. once you've got coolant in it hook the fuel line back up ,drain old gas out of tank and put a few gals of fresh gas in the tank. Start it and let it get up to temp checking for leaks. let it burn that oil off the tops of the cylinders, then shut it down, change oil and it should be ready to use.
Starter fluid is awesome. I never used it in my younger years. Like $3 a can idk but thats gas in the tank. 3 gallons. Now that i can afford it, my cans always empty. 😣 Theres always a reason they stop driving the car.
