  • Coastal Carolina University assistant professor Russell Fielding, Ph.D., is conducting research around the world on breadfruit. Breadfruit has a big place in history, but also a position going forward as a product to fight food insecurity in tropical regions around the globe. Fielding teaches in the HTC Honors College, primarily for the sustainability program. It’s fitting then that his research is being carried out with an eye on breadfruit’s place within sustainable development. With the assistance of a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, Fielding’s research will result in a book to be published in late 2024.
