  • This is part four of a five-part video series of building a model railroad from start to finish. This video series is intended to be a tutorial on various techniques. Part four demonstrates the installation of Tortoise ® switch machines and wiring them to power turnout frogs and LED position indicators. This video also shows how to wire an LED signal panel which shows block occupancy and turnout position.

    Hi. Very instructive. I really like the organisation that you have taken the trouble to employ in the building of your layout. I think I may have used blue LEDs for the track occupancy; just gives a little visual separation from the turnout LEDs.

    Nice wiring ever wire a triple color dwarf light up ? It’s a led an lost the instructions but has three wires an had it temporarily hooked up long time ago .was red yellow an green

      Hi, I am really sorry, without actually seeing your dwarf light, it is hard to say. If it was a two color light it would make sense that you have one common wire for both lights and then a feeder. If it is three lights, I don't know how they wired it from the manufacturer. If you know the brand, you can likely find instructions online. Sorry I can't be more help.

    Was a tomar industries.. looks like a little Grs search light dwarf .red wire white ,green . I have to look been while since I’ve had time
    .sort of gotta out of playing with models an doc for few yrs an now it’s like wow... just was asking if y ever used them an how good they were
