Winter Smallmouth Bass Fishing at Banks Lake Washington

  • Hit the 'thumbs up' for Winter smallmouth bass fishing! Most anglers aren’t confident with blade baits and how they work, but they are super efficient when the water temperatures are below 40-degrees. Today, we take you to Banks Lake which is located in Washington State. This enormous lake is not known for big fish, but we put a couple good ones in the boat, along with a couple of walleye.
    I would like to point out that a ‘reaction strike’ is a lot different than a ‘feeding bite’. A blade bait is the crankbait out deep. You are merely trying to get the fish to strike your bait, even though they might not be actively feeding. This is where you grow as an angler. Your ‘mechanical’ skills will help you adapt in tough fishing situations. If you truly listen and understand what we are trying to tell you, this video will help you catch more fish right now and throughout the coldest months of the year: November, December, January and February. Give a thumbs up or subscribe for future video notifications!

    Great video guys! Thanks for mentioning the rods y'all were using... I remember in one of your previous winter videos w/ the blade, Dan I think you were using the TAC-Mag. I was going to ask which one you had tied up. Got a winter tournament on Table Rock coming up w/ water temps around low 40s. Will definitely have a blade tied on!

      Wrench will do 90% of the heavy lifting. I'm not a big tac-mag guy, could possibly use it for finesse Carolina rigs though!

      Yeah Broc! I will say the Tac Mag has its strengths, but the wrench is just more versatile of course. Table Rock sounds amazing, hope you get into a good bite!!

    Awesome video! I can’t wait to head over to eastern Washington for the smallie action. I usually end up waiting around April to start catching them. I have no confidence fishing for these guys in the winter

      Patrick Frerks Does Quincy not teach that “some spots” doesn’t mean the whole road 😂😂

    so at this time of the year how deep are they and over what type of bottom rocky? sandy flats ? and which ramp did you launch from thanks Dan

    • @FHCOutdoors
      @FHCOutdoors  Před 4 lety

      Unfortunately, it's not a one-size fits all type of thing. We fished as shallow as 15 feet and went out past 50 feet at the deepest. You have to use your graphs to find wintering holes and most of the time, that will be some sort of rock. I have quite a few offshore spots on Banks and even fished these spots over and over. Sometimes they show up and sometimes they don't. I still think they move a little during winter - they don't sit completely still. We launched out of Steamboat State Park!

      @@FHCOutdoors thanks for info in the winter time I think bass go to a resort area where they don't want to be disturbed with bass anglers until springtime

    • @FHCOutdoors
      @FHCOutdoors  Před 4 lety

      richard miller some prefer to stay away until spring and that’s cool with me. We release all these fish immediately so we don’t harm them and their air bladders. We watched all fish on the graph return to the bottom so I’m confident we are at least doing our best to still catch them, yet handle them properly :)
