My sister is a doctor at the NHS and her husband is a nurse at the emergency ward treating COVID-19 patients. They both have now tested positive 😢 please pray for my sister and her husband. I’m so worried
Edit: I have been told that they both were not given any PPE while treating patients not even basic surgical masks. In fact they had to pay for their own test kits which was around 300 pounds per kit. I’m truly shocked at the diabolical state of NHS and the UK government on how shabbily they’re treating this whole thing. I can only imagine on how the common public will be treated if they’re treating the frontline staff so poorly.
Correction: The reason they had to pay for their own kits was because when they called 999 for help they were advised to goto the hospital for testing which was around 50mins away from where they live. And under the current circumstances they’re in neither of them could drive that far and also it’s a risk they didn’t want to take by exposing themselves to others hence why they chose to buy the kits and test at home.
Lastly, thank you everyone for your support and kind words. Coming to the trolls calling my story as fake or bullshit, count your blessings. Please use your good health to spread positivity and encouragement around instead of misery.

@@nexusyang4832 Western form, not western in matter. Different people are going to take their governments in different ways according to their particular inclinations given their history. Here in the UK we have had a trend of over-democratization of government, not entirely without cause, but in a lot of ways to our detriment. powers old that were instituted to provide for the longer term interests of the nation have slowly had their powers removed to the point of irrelevancy and in some cases having been framed as the enemy of the nation. the end result is a form of government comprised of bureaucratic interest and democratic political interest only, such that what is neither benefiting an existing institution not currently under political pressure nor of interest to the general public is given due attention. the lords are at best an extension of the commons, and the monarchy remains silent on all matters of politics.

I liked Taiwan very much when I visited for a meditation retreat some years back ......a lot of wisdom and kindness there ...I am not at all surprised to hear Taiwan has done so well. I believe the government are well intentioned here ...at the start I think they were slow and gave too much importance to the economy and now there are so many different views and so much criticism that much time and effort is wasted and sadly there has for whatever reason been resistance to learn and use the guidance of the countries who have done well or beaten it to a large extent ..so that there is either a mistrust and a reinventing of the wheel ..at the end of the day it is surely the quality of our minds which determine how we respond and there are factors that are beyond the grasp of science which take place ...

According to "Clinical course and risk factors for mortality of adult
inpatients with COVID-19 in Wuhan, China: a retrospective cohort study", the median duration of viral shedding is 20 days from the day of first onset of symptoms. One patient continued shedding virus for 37 days. In light of those findings, the UK guidelines seem hopelessly inadequate, and will result in numerous people who are still shedding virus going back into the community and infecting others.

inpatients with COVID-19 in Wuhan, China: a retrospective cohort study", once someone is infected, they continue shedding virus for 20 days on average from the day their symptoms first appeared. The NHS are sending people back to work when they're still highly contagious and capable of infecting others. That could be more than few weeks after the patient has recovered but can still spread the virus
Testing should be more cautious as time goes: Detection of virus > Detection of antibodies after recovery > Detection of no more viral infection on host body. anything before the fact could make the recovered patients unknowingly spread the virus after purposed recovery.

ngc4486diane I saw one instance where this was done in California where a recovered man’s plasma was given to several patients, so it’s very limited. His blood type is A so his plasma can only be given to people with type A or O blood. The American Red Cross is the largest blood bank in the US and could be gearing up to do plasma pheresis of those who have recovered and have antibodies on a wider scale. The Red Cross already has the distribution network in place to send blood products to hospitals. I think it’s a matter of scaling up the collecting and testing of the plasma.

I will give props to your observance of the unsung "heroes". I'm not talking about the front line health care workers, paramedics and police who are doing and will continue to generally do a tremendous job. They'll always be visible in this crisis and afterwards as well. I am talking about all the grocery workers, restaurant workers (often fast food) working carryout and delivery, delivery people, postal workers, garbage removal, janitors, nursing home assistants, social workers, electricians and internet technicians, and all the other workers that are "essential" to keep a nation (and not just the "economy") running. Many of these workers are low wage earners (many minimum wage), often not highly educated and/or trained/skilled and in general times often looked down upon in society as not living up to their "potential", and not in a more "honorable" profession. But these jobs have shown to be as equally as important to humanity if not more so. There is absolutely no reason that people in these professions should not be earning a respectable living wage even outside of a crisis, even if the "market" isn't providing it for them...
