Great review with everything I need to know! I think I'm going to go with one of these. I'm not a business user, but a home user that likes to tinker with things like some music production and digital drawing, and some legacy gaming where I don't need a majorly powerful GPU, although it looks like the integrated Radeon in the Ryzen 4000 series is nothing to sneeze at either. My reason for honing in on a Thinkpad though, is that I value the durability and upgradeability, as I usually keep my laptops for 5 years or more, plus with this E series model it doesn't really cost much more than a lot of consumer laptops with Ryzen and similar specs. I can take the "cost cutting" measures of the E series as I really don't need that many ports (nice that this still has full sized HDMI and a flip-down Ethernet jack that doesn't need a dongle though), and it also loses the 2 signature silver hinges from the L series and up, but I think this one actually looks cleaner. Another reason is nostalgia. The first laptop I bought with my own money after doing odd summer jobs as a kid was a somewhat gutted IBM-made Thinkpad from circa 1997 used on eBay, I forget the exact model. I found all the missing components, like a refurbished battery, AC adapter, RAM, a decently large hard drive, a PCMCIA modem card (family was still on dail-up ugh) and the CD ROM drive (it had one of those hot-swappable drive bays, remember those? I later got the floppy disk one too) and installed Windows XP which was current at the time, and had a really decent computer for cheap. Other than a number of modern developments like thin-ness and display bezel size, the basic shape and design of these newer Lenovo Thinkpads really hasn't changed all that much. I'm excited to mess around with the TouchPoint nib too, as I got really good with it on my childhood Thinkpad because it only had the TouchPoint as an on-board pointing device and no touchpad. That webcam is kinda meh, but looks perfectly serviceable for video calls, and it looks like it has decent low light performance too. It's no worse I think that the webcams in MacBooks that cost twice as much, I think they still use 720p webcams.
Thanks Ch4osWe4veR for you wonderful comment and story, I also went through the ages of tech like floppy, removable media drives like CDroms with space savers to drop weight. Can you stress the CPU ( how much Max TDP it uses) as more tdp than the processor limits may results in throttling.. you can use CPUZ to stress test. ( there is an issue in various lenovo laptops relating TDP /source : lenovo forum)
You should never stress test thin and lights l or any laptop) that isn't fot gaming. They simply have barely enough cooling for some 100% spikes but not constant hardcore stress tests.

Really detailed review. Need an update on that screen brightness issue while on battery...is it something a BIOS update can (and will?) fix?
I liked this laptop very much and it is available at Rs. 45,999 on Amazon in India. But horrified to buy due to that brightness issue. How will it be fixed?
@@shivamsaini7812 same position man! Gotta buy one for college... Dunno how it will be fixed, 90 nits is terrible
It’s probably just a Windows thing. They’ll fix it.
@@notelijahking8038 Are you sure?
@@shivamsaini7812 it's anyway out of stock now... Let's see when it comes back
You are really hardworking keep it up you will reach great heights one day.
When it goes in hibernation mode you coulndt wake up with pressing some key on keyboard you must press power button at least it works for me. Great laptop i love evertything but battery is terrible omg and i would love that screen is more bright.
Hi... how long battery last?
Awesome, bought this with the intel 11th gen refresh (with the XE igpu). I'm a graduate student and it fits my needs.
How’s the battery life? I’m planning to get the intel 12th gen model
@@ninja-c Around 7 hours. If you not gaming. And Thunderbolt USB is fast, recharge fully (0 to 100%) in 40 mins.
@@pulsar01z Thanks! I’ll be getting mine later today. 😀
Very good and detail review. Can you pls review E14 Gen 5. Im just have low budget and only can get it
This is the most wholesome review I've seen so far. Great quality 👍. Also just wanted to know if the onboard SSD is M.2 SATA or M.2 NVMe SSD. It will be mentioned on the sticker of the SSD. Would appreciate if you reply to my query.
It can go up to total maximum 40G of RAM, I can confirm this because I have the exact Ryzen 5 model and I've upgraded mine with an extra 32G 3200Mhz ram.
Are you sure?
@@mohamedswadiquek6132 Yes
@@addisonwen4256 How many ram slots there.. It it easily replaceable or need to solder?
@@Dani-yt8nk only 1 upgradable slot, fairly easy to do it yourself, and the 8gb that come with it is soldered.
How's the battery life?
It was bending mate. The review was cool, not boring at all, u fucking deserve a subscribe and a like!
Liked. Subscribed. Great details. Thanks
was considering this laptop.
14:49 -> that display is a deal breaker.
Great review, and really nice presenter, really like him!
Thanks very much @Andrew Baines very much appreciate the feedback, hope I can provide some entertainment as well in between =). Seasonal greetings to you.
Most comprehensive review of this laptop I could find. Thanks
Keep the good work Sir. This is a good review!
Awesome review. You deserve way more subs.
Hi. Can you review the latest generation 5 AMD thinkpad E14 series also
Great review! 👍
thanks @rm28italia2012
We don't get any backlit keyboard in Indian version 😭😭.... And that is the only thing which strikes ur heart.....
Great Review as always. I have this laptop with AMD Ryzen 5 + 16GB Ram + 2 SSD and has been great.
Just a suggestion for description, it's Colombia not Columbia.
Oops my fault there thanks for the correction =)
I have an Intel core i3 model of the same laptop. But it doesn't have backlit keyboard.
It would be all hold it can be configured, some can be option in and some option out the blacklit keys. All the Thinkpad keyboards will have the option to have or not have, in my review unit it had it option in Deepak Kumar.
Thanks, awesome video.
really enjoyed your review :)
Nice video.... greetings from India
You are so good
Excellent review....I got this 1
After 3 years... is it working good snd is it good fror video editing
great review!
Sir, could you do the review on Lenovo Think Pad E15 Gen 2 AMD Ryzen 5-4500U because I heard that it has 56% sRGB and and the cooling system is not good. Thank you!
Very good reviews 👍
please also make a review of the ThinkPad E14 Gen 3
It was an excellent review 👍
The "integrated graphics being pretty decent" does that mean I can run Lightworks and Blender for video editing just fine?
Thanks for help me to select
Thats a very detailed review . I liked it. 👏🏼
Detailed as lit 🔥🔥🔥
Excellent Review .
Sir, big thumbs up for the review. Subbed
My question is, what is the upgradability of the SSD? If it is the 512 gig version can I upgrade it more?
The small SSD in the 2242 format is officially max at 512GB, as for the other spare M.2 SSD Slot 2280 officially its 1TB on that slot.
@@BsianTech thanks sir
Thank you.
thanks
The brightness is a BIOS setting.
Hey! Thanks so much for the in depth review. I have this laptop on order here in India. I was wondering if you could check that the display brightness issue on battery has got nothing to do with the battery modes. Thanks so much.

Hello Naveet, could you tell me how you were able to order it from India? What was the price and how about its gaming performance? Thank you.
@@nikhilmohan6193 its available bon Amazon right now for 47k. Which is very reasonable. It has not been delivered yet. Will get delivered tomorrow.
@@naveet007 Hi...did you receive it? it's showing 46K ... how's the laptop?
@@maulikpujara1 yes. I received it today. Got it for 46k. Everything is fine. The screen is not good. The keyboard is not backlit. If you do not plan to upgrade the ram and storage ever, you can look at ASUS Vivobook 14 with Ryzen 4500u available on Flipkart for 48k. It has a backlit keyboard and 512gb storage for extra 2k.
Is it just me or did everyone face a problem with the boot? I bought this laptop and the moment I turned it on, I ran into the a boot loop. At first I thought that it was because the OS wasn't installed so I got my USB with windows 10 but that didn't fix it. I just ended up returning it.
Sir, does that extra M2 slot, support SDD only? Or can i also put Kingston A2000 M2 NVME SSD.
I am confuse between M2 SATA SSD and M2 NVME SSD.
i think its an m.2 NVMe which is PCIE,
dont get the m.2 sata as its an old and slower version which may not be compatible
Oh do get the M.2 PCIe NVME, M.2 SATA is much slower.
I didn't realise the battery was that bad!
Also the speaker is all the ThinkPad I got a X1 carbon the speaker are horribly low on volume can't hear anything!
Do realise I burn a consistent work load on all the system resources. The AVG task won't hit the system resources as hard as my test. As for the X1 carbons they shouldn't be crazy low they are usually very decent in volume wise. Which generation of X1C have you got?
Any plans to do a review on the intel version? got an option to buy one with mx450...
Not atm I am sorry, if I can get my hands on Intel version I would be keen to see myself how the performance and thermals are.
@@BsianTech no worries....keep up the great work!
Can you recommend E14 for engineering student, who will perform AutoCAD, programming, etc.?
Yes better than intel
Get an AMD (4500u) model, it curb stomps all of the Intel models except for the strongest 6-core models. Cheap too. You won’t find a faster laptop CPU.
Thanks everyone for helping with the replies, this is a good laptop for engineering student looking to save money. After this laptop would be the Lenovo Thinkpad P14s Intel for the Quadro P520 discrete graphics abut you are paying twice the price for that discrete graphics which is aim for CAD students and professionals. Look into the benchmark section of the video on the Specviewperf, this benchmark test aims for CAD users, specific look into the SW-04 results that is performance for Solidworks.
Not bad review but you forgot the most important thing in it how hot did the CPU get at 100% load?
If I max it out to 24 GB ram, with i7-1260p will this laptop be good enough for computer programming courses which deals with databases, Java, testing and web development
Hi there, any idea on the differences between gen 2 and gen 3?
Thanks,
Is the keyboard user-serviceable? can it be removed from the front like other thinkpads?
Can we replace the Wifi Card with Intel Wifi6 or 6E card? Don't know why they still keep put a Wifi 5 card in 2021.
Hi i'm looking for a laptop for 4k video editing with premiere pro /after effects and basically nothing else it will be dedicated to just that. I don't have loads of cash so i'm looking for under €1.5k, do you have any recommendations? I find all the branding on hardware so confusing to actually know what is what.
Please is it good for gaming? Kindly reply after reading this 🙏🙏
I would be putting the games on medium graphics settings, it could play some AAA games but it's not amazing then again this laptop isn't a gaming laptop.
thank you
Between the Thinkbook 14 G2 and Thinkpad E14 which do u recommend?
Thinkpad everytime. Better keyboard, more durable chassis, better reliability, higher quality build, more consistent back-light performance. It's just a better machine.
They simply have barely enough cooling for some 100% spikes but not constant hardcore stress tests.
nice review
Thank you Vishal Kumar
Any advice on low colour contrast? colours do not seem to pop at all... Ryzen 7 model
I liked this laptop very much and it is available at Rs. 45,999 on Amazon in India. But horrified to buy due to that brightness issue. How will it be fixed?
Hi Shivam Saini_623 , its quite a good laptop and I have contact Lenovo to see if we have the brightness issue looked into further as it is a shame such a great affordable and surprisingly good performer and usable laptop.
@@BsianTech Yeah! Hope it gets fixed soon in further models.

How does it do when your playing older versions of COD like MW1? What about FIFA versions?
Not a hard core gamer, but like to game once in a while. And will be playing older versions only
FIFA I think will be fine but COD on low settings could be playable still. For this generation the graphics is indeed better on the AMD version then the Intel version.
Where I can find its emergency reset button?
What's the temp on the CPU in performance mode under full load? I'm getting near 100C
