Hey Joey. Re viewing this post. I learned more from you as my basic understanding of the cultivators has increased. I get it about your use of your hammer, it works w/o damage. I have picked up a couple Farmall’s of late and the hammer has been used so wrong the parts are not salvageable! Replacements are not real cheap as you know. Love the comment about an SAE adjustable. I don’t understand some of the comments either, but I learned over 65 years ago which end of the screw driver to beat on (neither is the correct answer). I am going back thru your posts and continue to learn. Thanks.
Thanks again for posting these set-ups. Makes me want to get the old Super AV running even more. I pulled the old battery today. Going to get a new one tomorrow. Looks like I need to invest in a cordless impact also LOL!
You make your 140 earn its keep. Down here in south Alabama you don't see many 140s. A few A's and Super A's. Most of them belong to collectors now. The old timers used to farm the A's but they have all passed on. Glad to see your videos I've really enjoyed seeing the old tractor work the way it was designed to. They really are second to none with row crop type farming.

That is an awesome set up, we have 53 super A. I’m pretty sure it came with a bunch of tillage equipment but it’s been 30 years since it came out to the farm and now my dad is gone he would have known all that stuff. Glad there is a video I can use as a reference.
Might try some lister/furrower bottoms to replace those alabama sweeps. Most wearparts companies sell them in a lighter version for cultivators, even though as a quick glance the shape looks like a heavy middle buster plow.
That's a nice looking potato spot an man I can almost smell the diesel and fresh earth we did a lot of siding dressing tobacco when I was a kid an my uncle let me ride with him
Thanks for these. I'm going to try to use the Farmall for the first time to lay out some corn and maybe sunflowers. Do I need to lay off the rows just as you show here first? Then do I use hillers? To mound, then do I plant? Of can I skip the middle buster?
Most the time if I’m making rows for tomatoes or beans I just start bedding right on the cut soil. I don’t lay it off first. I usually plant corn flat.

Growing indian corn, and maybe plant some deer corn ( like out of the bag) to just have something to dial in my skills and equipment before I spend money on some seed . I got my granddads cub last year and want to play with it and actually garden with it eventually. But I don't want to get the cultivator blight on actual plants I wanted to get food from.
Jtwes, may I ask what your tractor's wheel centers are spaced at? I have a farmall cub currently spaced on 40" centers. I don't pull hills for most of my rows while field planting. I am looking for a little more room to sometimes use my David Bradley walk behind which in some cases, uses 40" wide implements. Just looking to gain a little more middle width than I get with the 40" spacing. Thanks.
What kind of bolts are you using on the feet to hold the shovels on? I just bought a 140 and it needs some new sweeps and bolts. The 3" plow bolts don't seem to fit quite right.
You need to do some sanding or grinding so you dont have to beat with a hammer. My brother cant hook up anything without beating on it with a hammer or taking stabilisers off.
@@Jtwes do you have a video explaining hiw to set the springs on the lift arms? I have cultivators that I have gotten mounted through going over the manuals but I couldn't find a lot if info about the spring tension and how to set it.
Have you tried Shoups for the shovel? I also just ran across this site: farmerbobsparts.com/ It is getting a lot harder to find these old cultivator parts.

For your shank that keeps tripping, why don’t you just tighten the spring down as that adjusts the tension on the trip mechanism?
I really haven’t looked at it that close. That might work I’ll look at it when I get home.

Think you may could find a good welder that could modify that one you have to work like new?
I’ve seen people weld points on top of worn out points before. If your talking about the shovel plow point.

Hey wave, I put them in the trench the middle buster left and cover with a few inches of dirt. As they grow I’ll build dirt around them.

@@stephenpinker6495 I have never set them. I have adjusted them for level but I don't think I payed attention what type of spring pressure it had.
