As an Oilers fan, I totally agree. Vancouver wanted it more in the final 40 minutes and it showed. The guys on the power play were trying to be too cute and their passes were getting picked off so easily. It's not on Bouch, it's on everybody except Pickard. There's no reason they couldn't have won this game other than they didn't try to win, and the Canucks did.

Ekholm is the steadiest D the Oilers have. Bouchard is good offensively, but prone to gaffs and while Darnell Nurse is a physical presence, he’s wildly inconsistent at both ends. The others are borderline NHLers. The Oilers get by because they have McDavid, Draisaitl, RNH as a solid 2 way centre and a couple of wingers who can finish. The problem is that they spent so much on their top players that they didn’t have enough for a veteran goalie or any depth. Shutdown their top 2 players and it’s game, set, match. But because McDavid and Draisaitl are so good, they’re a contender.

We've seen teams go undefeated against another team during reg season only to lose in the playoffs against that team. Jets/aves this year, Boston/ Florida last year, Edmonton/Vegas last year (3:1). During the playoffs other than game 5. Edmonton has outshot Vancouver every game, had more puck possession every game had more offensive zone time every game. They outplayed Vancouver basically every game but that doesn't matter when you have a pylon in net. Game 5 Vancouver was dominant, but it was the only game so far where they looked like the genuine better team. I think it was game 3 were Edmonton was basically as dominant out shooting by a large margin but Skinner let in a weak goal. Even Vancouver fans were saying "we didn't deserve to win tonight" which is what Edmonton fans would have said had Edmonton won game 5. Imagine if Pickard was in net for the whole series and played as good as he did game 5. This series would likely have been over with Edmonton taking the series. I understand the counter is "well if we had Demko" and that maybe true but it would be a elite level goaltender vs a backup. Edmonton's Achilles heel is their goaltending.
