Pursuit of profit and price point drives those decisions. I don't think they do it just to make life difficult or force people to buy new cars. They're just trying to make production as streamlined as possible, and that means making disassembly and repair a lot more difficult.
I wish car companies took a more balanced approach. I don't think the U.S. government gives them much wiggle room.

Scotty, I got a 2013 Camry SE with almost 300K. Still runs pretty good. Very slight miss at idle, but undetectable driving. Transmission is starting to give a little issue. If I get in my car in the morning, start it and drive, it will not go into 6th gear until I manually downshift for about 5 seconds then back to drive. (shifter not paddles) Only then will it go into 6th. I've tried waiting till the car had warmed up for about 30 seconds, then a minute , then 2. No change. Only will it shift perfectly after the car is to full operating temperature. Now, once this has happened, I can park the car for 5-7 hrs, get in while its now cold again, and it will still shift perfectly. It only gives me the issue when its been sitting 12hrs or more. I was going to take it to Toyota for diagnostics, but considering what they did me about 50k miles ago, I really don't want to go back.
So, does it sound like the trans is going out or is there something I can try first? I was told years by one old mechanic to never change the fluid in a high mileage car if its never been done before. Well, this one has never been done. Also, check engine light has never been on. EVER.. Thank you sir.

The AC didnt work and apparently the rear ac was disconnected, a check engine light with p0171 & p0174. I did pay a shop around $1300 to fix the front AC cuz this TN weather has been HOT, so it was necessary. The rear ac unit will have to wait. as far as the engine codes, i cleaned the MAF sensor today and will just have to see if they come back on. There IS a slight clunk when turning, but i haven't investigated yet. Overall, it drives fantastic! Hopefully it will last forever. Great Vid!

I have that same van with 274,000 miles.....didn't even know til this video that it has a timing belt....I thought it was a chain. I've not changed either the timing belt or the water pump BECAUSE the damn transverse mounted engine is CLOSE to the passenger frame and motor mount etc. It's a BIG damn deal to get at that stuff.

Quick struts really are not the best choice. The springs are not the same as the factory and the ride is much stiffer as a result. It is not rocket science to change the cartridges. A few minutes of extra work is well worth the cost savings and ride quality.

Scotty I’m out west looking for my daughters first car she’s 21 started her job last year I told her to save her money pay cash or finance least as possible found a 06 tab 4 base with AWD with 111.000 miles on it they want 10.000 this is what all these old Toyota and Hondas are going for and they have 2011 Honda crv ex-l leather with 20.000 Les miles for 13.000 these are automatic trans would never want to deal with a snowmobile transmission. But why would the Honda be way less for the year and miles Is the rav way better than the Honda ? I’ve owned many of both over many of years I always thought they were neck to neck on quality. Your take would appreciated on a future video.
