    I have one of these and she’s doing AMAZING and is literally one of the easiest plants I’ve ever owned! Also when I first got this we were at a tulip festival and they were selling plants so I got it but it was suuuper windy and all of the branches broke a little but not completely and within a week it had repaired itself somehow and mended the leaves back together!

    I really love my epiphytes cactus. I have at least 7 types. I keep them together and they are so happy : your care instructions are accurate. They also prefer cooler nights but warmer days. I am dreaming of the day (night) the blooms happen.

    Pro-tip: for fertilizer, I find epiphytic cacti like a little more nitrogen than 2-7-7. I've found tomato fertilizer to work really well (ratio of roughly 2-1-3 ratio. e.g 7-4-10 or 10-5-15). Nice plant btw!

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks Justin....I never really understood why the nitrogen is lower for cactus/succulents. I have the foliage pro 9-3-6 which I'll use next time. 👍

    • @thebadger9302
      @thebadger9302 Před 11 měsíci

      Epiphytes do well with a balanced fertilizer during the growing season, 10-10-10, then switch to a 0-10-10 just before the blooming season. Water very sparingly in winter. They love very bright indirect or filtered light and frost will kill them. They thrive in moist, well draining acidic soil.

  • @northernplantuckyplantcinc2630

    Several Cactus Growers, including Lynn from desert plants if Avalon highly recommend a basic tomato fertilizer. Organic or inorganic. Not an expert but I love jungle cactus. Another CZcams Channel that I would highly recommend is simply called epiphytic based in Wisconsin! I got a Fernleaf cactus in November and it's finally starting to put out new growth. I put all of mine outside in shade / dappled/ Setting Sun during the summer and they grow quite quickly!

    Very informative video once again! Wanted to mention another way to recognize if you have scale on your plant is you will see a sticky substance around the surface that the plant is sitting on. It’s the only bug I have had on some of my plants. It will spread easily so check other plants surrounding the infected one and isolate!

  • @robparsons213
    @robparsons213 Před 2 lety +1

    Until I got into orchids, scale was only a pest I read about in books. I have only once seen it on any other plant--a ZZ Plant given to me as a premium on a fairly large purchase. I'd had it for quite a time before they reared their ugly heads. What you describe for treating it is good, but I would also add spray with End All or similar product after going over the plant as you describe. What you describe will get rid of the adults, but the young scale insect is a little more mobile, and tiny, hence the need for a little follow-up. Keep on with your informative videos!

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  Před 2 lety

      Thanks Rob for the extra information. I had scale once on a Ming Aralia. Another viewer commented about the sticky sap they produce and that was the thing I first noticed, but forgot to mention in the video.

  • @markspera5247

    Absolutely love this plant! Your soil mix looks like what I use for epiphytes. My plants love the humid summers outside. Definitely not full sun bright light and some shade. I plant mine in slotted plastic orchid pots they add air flow to the roots.

    I have a massive fern leaf I bought already massive ... pushing out new growth all over the place (hooray!) but i don't have the new growth on a support like the main plant (back support) - the new leaves are much smaller ... do the leaves grow bigger over time or do they only grow larger if they are on a support like some of my philodendrons? the new leaves are an inch or two only while the leaves on the original plant are 5 to 6 inches!
