  • Every year, thousands of people attempt the perilous 70km sea crossing from Comoros to the French overseas department of Mayotte in search of a better life there. But now, the French government has announced plans to take a radical step to deter more migrants from coming: denying citizenship to children born on Mayotte to foreign parents. For many in Comoros, itself a former French colony, the move has come as a shock, though not all are convinced it will stop people from attempting to leave.

Truth is that....The island of Mayotte is of very little significance to France....infact its more of a headache that they would happily abandon....The people of Comoros should hold their government more accountable so as to have better governance...clearly France is doing a better job governing a smaller territory...plus you migrate to another territory illegally and still continue to have tonnes of kids and just subject them to a pathetic life

Fun fact, the ilsand neighboring Mayotte petitioned the UN and Frnce to be a Frenhccolony again in 19998, but France said no because they are wimps and the UN would hae said no becaue it is a ananti white organizatin.

@@bgcvetan That's one of my points. The decolonization fad, brought on by hyped impressions of Soviet communism and American free enterprise Calvanism, prompted Europe from disengaging their African/Asian territories, leaving scores of peoples without responsible government, foreign capital or hope.

At this point, wouldn't be better for Comoros to ask to join France, then?

Wouldn't it be counter-productive for France to agree? They're adopting this law to prevent being overrun by Comorians.
