  • A light touch and a minimum of fussing is key to a fresher approach in watercolour. In this demonstration I use two colours to create a fluid and expressive first layer, adding negative shape, additional colour, salt and spatter to define the painting and create the impression of an arrangement of lush flowers.
Try out an online class for more flower painting inspiration! I recommend either Colour Drenched Florals: learn.angelafeh...
    or Lovely Loose Florals: learn.angelafeh...
Both courses will help you paint flowers with more expression and style.

I'm new to water color and have found your classes to be the most helpful. Clear teaching. I've also used your wood mounting idea and love how it looks. Unfortunately arches blocks measurement don't match premade wood blocks w the exception of 9x12. I'm asking a carpenter friend to make 7x 10 and 10x 14. Rita Largman.

The cool thing about watercolor is I can glaze on lightly and do it as many times as I wish to get as dark , rich and vibrant as I want. Don't need to do it all in one go. I love your mind set to get out of our own way and just do it. The whole point for me is to have fun. I have a lot of pigments too and they all work differently. Are you using 300lb watercolor paper? What press type?

Angela, thank you. I think you are a great teacher. I am stuck in my learning with not being a good drawer. I suppose I start using too much paint which is totally ruining the painting, in particular, me not drawing well. At times I do beautiful things. I suppose I am just not yet there, need more doing. I suppose you´re bringing out the problem in this video: doing to much, pressing the brush too much, covering up all the white.

Hi Angela, this too is something I struggle with. I want to be perfect every time and I know that isn't in the realm of reality. It takes great humility to be willing to take the risk of failing, even when we know it's the only way to learn. I am grateful that you spoke of using multi-pigmented paint. I live near D.S. and have seen all the various blends made there so I always feel a bit strange when someone speaks of only using "single pigment paints," as though it was the golden rule of watercolor. I love your use of these precious paints and the loose style you obtain...........and want so badly to be able to learn this........Practice, I know. I do have another question. What kind of brush are you using with the green handle and extremely long hair. It isn't a rigger and I don't think I've seen one before although it resembles the strippers I've seen around. None are as large as yours that I know of. Thanks for the demo. It was great.
