What u don't understand about that guitar right there is its symbolic. That is a 1960 Fendy Strato that he's had since he was in temple of the dogs (chris Connells first big band). That piece of wood with strings is probably older than half the people in this entire comment section. Me personally I think that is the most humble and badass way to say "goodbye" to the world of music which he played a big big role in. It's pretentious to you, but to me and alot of others, it's beautiful.
@@iwannaplayagame4092 That is interesting, but sadly that makes him even more pretentious. Donate the guitar to a charity, make it a positive thing, not something about yourself by destroying it...what message does that give other than a negative one.
@@iwannaplayagame4092 well said my friend It’s been a long road for Mike Without a doubt, one of the better guitarist of his generation, and constantly overshadowed first, by stone and Jeff, and then Eddie I think you hit the nail on the head
I just want to say 3 things. 1. Pearl Jam is my all time favorite band. 2. Eddie is my all time favorite lyricist and vocalist. 3. I wish he never took over the band.
Incredible this revolutionary guitarist of 56 years old . . .who breaks a guitar in public ! . . .Frankly it's unheard off ! . . . Congratulations to this modern day hero ! . . .
love Mike to death and he was on fire that night with extrastellar solo's all night, but this, smashing a perfectly good guitar, I really don't like...

On another video you can see him walk off stage(right before this) and see him presumably swap his original for another guitar just like it(probably cheaper squier or something) and smash that one into the amp and pedalboard. The amps and pedalboard isn't a replacement for sure though....!!!🤯
Have y’all even SEEN the complete version of the performance? After Mike does his solo, it appears that his sound cuts out. So apparently there had to have been a malfunction of some type.
No, he was frustrated by several previous show cancellations (Eddie's medical/throat issues), and he wanted to give the fans something to remember. So he went nuts.
Sensacional!
If I had to play “Rockin’ in the Free World” every night for 30 years straight, I’d probably want to wreck my rig too...
Guitar Tech: Aw cmon...I spent a lot of time on that pedalboard!!
Haha, yes😅
Dude, that’s the one that hurt deep.
It looked so majestic when Hendrix did it…not sure about this one
That kinda thing was rebellious in the 60’s but sixty years later it seems a bit pretentious especially by an old rich person
Cope
@Graham Wellington very nice, thanks for asking

No need to get upset if you keep practicing you’ll eventually be able to solo like Neil Young

I always thought musicians smashing their instruments was really lame, even when Cobain or the Who did it. Musicians should respect their instruments.

He explains the situation on shred with shifty podcast. Great interview!!! Mike fucking rules!!!!🤘🤘🤘
His explanation makes no sense.
Why would you hurt the amp and pedals too? My gawd
🔥🔥🔥🔥

unearned
Well, I used to like this dude...Little kid on the stage too.... Well, maybe he felt like proving himself considering his age now and all?...

It’s his. He can do what he wants. He has the money. Get over it.
@@chadwickwright3022 wow..................👎
It was a cheepie...he planned the whole thing.
Smashing a guitar against an amp is quite silly. For instance, in a tube amp, there are very high voltages (e.g., 500VDC) that can kill instantly.
Kids on stage and you learn them to disrespect work and assets?
😂…”you learn them?” Pls tell me you didn’t procreate?
@@chadwickwright3022 well kids tend to imitate... And destroying stuff is not doing anything or anyone good.

It's like leaving a tip for the waiter under a pile of ketchup and glasses rigged to tip over.
why did he do this?

Cliche to the max I'm impressed more by playing ability at least Paul Stanley uses prop guitars

@@thedevilinthecircuit1414 apparently so! Mike freaking totaled one of the amp heads and the guitar!
It’s clear from another vid that it’s not his vintage nor a custom signature. He would respect the custom builder too much.
This guitar had a maple fretboard so it's not his 59 or the CS.
