  • Nissan is commemorating the 55th birthday of the Z sports coupe in the United States with a special Heritage Edition as we originally revealed last month. Show's main star is If this author may be so bold, a new split-grille bumper represents a great upgrade over the conventional design. To be honest, the conventional Z grille wasn't exactly a slam dunk with everyone. Nissan paid attention to the comments since last year they unveiled a split-grille choice for Japan. First seen on the Proto concept car, it later made its way onto the production-ready Fairlady Z Customized Edition for their home market.Beyond the fresh smile, the Heritage Edition tosses it back to the S30-gen Datsun 240Z with a striking new color palette. Called "New Sight Orange," its emphasized black hood decal contrasts with bodyside stripes and special Heritage Edition badges flanking the Z emblems. To finish out the sharper appearance, black 19-inch wheels and fender flares.Under the hood, business is normal. Drawing on the Z Performance specification, the Heritage Edition sports a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 churning out 400 horsepower and a peak torque number of 350 lb-ft. With a limited-slip differential and Nissan Performance brakes with red calipers keeping things tight, a 6-speed manual or 9-speed automatic supplies power to the rear wheels.Though Nissan's saving that information for itself, production of the 2024 Z Heritage Edition will be limited; just how limited remains a mystery. With a starting MSRP of $59,135 for either transmission-a $6,165 increase over the basic Performance trim upon which it is based-expect the Heritage Edition to join dealerships in the coming weeks.
Is the additional attention worth the historical reference, a grille that at last performs Z justice, and perhaps even a subdued nod to its fans? It will be you to judge. Still, it's not another grimace at least.
