I'm so sick of black mirror, its basically just Charlie Brooker invents a horrible scenario and then the show is going "WOULDN'T THAT BE HORRIBLE IF THAT HAPPENED? IMAGINE THAT, EY? IF THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED TO YOU" and thats the _entire_ show.

Much like Valve busy making so much money with Steam to give us Half Life 3, Charlie Brooker is too busy making money with Black Mirror to give us new Screenwipe 😅
Half Life Alyx is pretty much Half Life 3. Worth getting or borrowing a VR headset for imo.
Except there’s an unfinished storyline that follows on directly from Half-life 2 episode 2 that we all invested in by playing 4 instalments of Half-life and following the story of Gordon Freeman. We want that story to come to a close. Alyx was a supporting character and not what people wanted.

Loved his Screenwipe, Gameswipe & How Videogames Changed the World episodes! Any more Brooker content in that realm is more than welcome! 😁
His "Death to 202x" series are good too, especially all the made up characters played by celebrities. "If you don't believe me then here's an interview with a laboratory scientist, over to you, Pyrex Flask."
I moved back from Japan to Glasgow, and couldn't remember the name of Katamari - so I then explained the premise to the man that ran the wee shop - and I think he thought I had issues above and beyond the issues I did have.

100% agree re: inverted Y axis, that's the first thing I change whenever I start a new game. I think for me that came from playing lots of flight sims on my Amiga, pull back to go up. We didn't really look around in 3D worlds back then.

Also, invert Y guy here! You know, the flight sim link makes sense. Thinking back it might have been Top Gun on the ZX Spectrum for me, or Wings on the Amiga. Two of my friends constantly give me shit when a multiplayer first-person game doesn't have invert Y and I complain about it (Oh Deer for example), so I'm glad to hear Charlie ranting about it :D
I'm on the older side but only use inverted controls for planes / helicopters in games like Battlefield for example. But for just normal FPS stuff I don't.

I sometimes wonder if Charlie ever gets sick of the bitter, angry, shouty, persona he’s cultivated over the decades, then you watch stuff like this and you realise it’s actually just an extension of himself and he’ll never be able to stop it, even if he wanted to 😂

Loved Screenwipe/Newswipe but I just can't get into Black Mirror at all, just found it too bleak.
Nice to see Return of The Obra Dinn getting some love. That was an incredibly creative and original game.

The scary thing about Vampire Survivors is that the dev is a former gambling games designer who grew a conscious. He put all his experience and knowledge of gambling psychology into the game and it shows. If he had monetized his game to the max there would be a lot of gambling addicts and whales spending hundreds if not thousands of dollars in Vampire Survivors.
Worth noting that VS got a lot of positive publicity from being anti-Konami at launch and flaunting "legally not Castlevania" sprites. Now there's official Contra DLC. Times change.
I remember talking to Charlie many many years ago when he worked in this games shop near Oxford Circus, obviously I didn’t know it was him at the time but he was a funny lad back then too. I kinda followed him through his various guises, as a review for a pc magazine, into guardian and then probably clocked it was him about 15 years after that initial meeting.

With you on the inverted controller, Charlie! I played so much Perfect Dark as a kid it set me that way, and whenever I played FPSs with my mates afterwards I'd piss them off with the inverted controls haha. I literally made the same argument "it's like your neck!"

I've always played with inverted controls. Was probably forced into it by a C64 or Amiga game and can't play any other way now.
It used to drive my son nuts but one day it just clicked for him. He said he thought about the stick being his head. He's a full-time inverter now

I'm 100% behind him with inverted controls. Old games used it and didn't give us a choice so we had to learn.
What some people erroneously think of as "regular" controls are, were, in fact, "inverted" from the regular way of pressing back to go up and forward to go down (because this is how a plane's or a submarine's controls make the vehicle dip or go up).
Simple, really.
Inverted controls are the only controls that make sense!
They both make sense, it’s just a different mental model. Like how scrolling is inverted on Mac vs PC, because the mental model is of grabbing the content, rather than moving a viewport.
Inverted makes sense for me in flight games, because I’m controlling a vehicle, but my mental model of controlling a human body is different.
I always think of 'that' Tomb Raider cartoon he drew for PC Zone, when I think of Charlie Brooker.

I think Charlie and Yahtzee likely crossed paths back in the day seeing as they both wrote for PC mags before one moved in to TV and the other moved in to Australia.

Watching this Charlie Brooker's interview, I can't help but wonder if he might have traits of Asperger's or ADHD. His focused interests, detailed analysis, and rapid wit make me speculate about this. Don't get me wrong, I'm quite a fan of people with Asperger's like Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Nikola Tesla, Steve Jobs (assumed), and David Byrne. 😅
Although I would count Black Mirror as one of my favorite shows, I just came to look for an interview with the creator. I love Brooker's unique style and critical approach. His rants and deep dives into media and technology are fascinating. ❤ Has anyone come across any interviews where he discusses his neurological background? Regardless, his ability to critique modern society and technology so insightfully made me an instant fan of Black Mirror, and it seems I'll become a fan of Brooker as well. 😊
I miss Weekly Wipe and all the other shows Charlie appeared in like 10 O’Clock Live. His and David Mitchel’s funny and intelligent political rants are exactly what i need right now given the state of the world.

I don't think anyone needs to justify their preference for inverted/non-inverted controls. Do whatever feels best for you and let others do the same.
But if you, like Charlie, do want to come up with a justification for inverted controls, and you go with "thumbstick attached to back-of-head" argument, then invert both the X and Y axis because by that logic, left on the thumbstick would move one's line of vision to the right. (Charlie never mentioned if he did, so I don't know either way.) Having Y inverted but not X makes zero sense using this argument, so if that's your preference throw logic to the wind and just go with "it feels good to me", which is all the reason you ever need.
I used to use inverted controls, but then I used keyboard and mouse for ages and it's kinda trained my brain into using normal.
Finally! Inverted is the way. Non-inverted is strange and unusual.

I use inverted controls because I used to play Ace Combat a lot, & figured I might as well have the y axis inverted in everything else.
Baldur's Gate 3 is now the greatest game of all time. It's amazing how much development has improved in indie studios, despite the big companies trying to drive gaming into the dirt.

Absolutely spot on about controller Y axis. Pull BACK, push FORWARD. No idea why that flipped a few years back, old flight sims on 1980s computers, you pulled BACK on the joystick to RISE.
