To the best of our knowledge, all heroes wear capes. However, we recognize that many heroes may or may not wear capes. Also, some villains wear capes. I suppose the point is, do not judge anyone wearing a cape simply by the fact that they are or are not wearing a cape. A cape is not an accurate measure of heroic intent.
But David Butler is totes a hero.

Carl Sagan would be pleased. Not all of the brightest astronomers and astrophysicists are able to communicate what they know to an audience of lay persons in a way that we can understand. You have that gift.
It’s just sad that we have so much light pollution that it’s difficult, even with a good telescope, (a local university has one just a short drive away, but even it is difficult to view, due to the local light pollution) to see anything close to the detail shown here.

    • @johncronin9540
      @johncronin9540 Před 4 lety

PafMedic I live in Massachusetts. Light pollution is a problem almost everywhere in the eastern part of the state. The observatory was part of an upgrade of a local college to a university, and the observatory is atop a whole new science building. That’s a problem also, because anyone walking in lower floors of the building causes vibrations which affect the quality of the viewing.
This isn’t just a problem with this university. Light pollution is a problem around the globe. Just viewing through the atmosphere is difficult, not just because of the twinkling, caused by the atmosphere, but because our atmosphere blocks many parts of the EM spectrum from reaching the surface. This is good for life on Earth, but tough for observers.
I think the next step is an observatory on the far side of the Moon. That solves the light pollution problem, and we could build instruments that can explore across the entire EM spectrum. And “night” lasts two entire weeks.
But this telescope is good for an introduction to astronomy, and it’s open to the public one night a week (though not now, during the pandemic).

What a great way to conclude a night then to listen to David Butler and watch his video. We humans have a hard time grasping the majesty of our surroundings. When we were doing star parties regularly, people would often express that the mere size of the universe made it hard to comprehend. I believe those attributes set our imagination free to roam among the stars and enjoy the wonder of it all. Thanks for all your work, David.

It’s nice to hear a real human voice talking about these things.
Don’t get me wrong, I admire all the other videos put out on this subject. I watch a lot of them and am even subscribed to their channels for the informative content. I know and understand the YT hustle. However, it’s nice to hear someone talk about it with their own voice, conveying real emotions, and actually hearing the tone of the voice change along with showing real images instead of something computer generated (which are amazing, by the way, but real space is way more intriguing than fake space).
Keeps me more focused, like I’m front row in a class with a test tomorrow. Thanks for the informative videos! Just found your channel. I have a lot to go through and watch.

Great music selection. Borodin's movement is kind of sad, which resembles our insignificant existence in the vast universe. Elgar's music suggests that after dying we will somehow return to the stars where we belong or we might reborn in other galaxy. For me, alien life does exist, the problem for civilizations is distance. I think there are thousands of civilizations that will never meet.

      @@ominous-omnipresent-they
If you believe in the God of the Bible, the Word of the One True God, YHVH,
then you believe in the creation of Adam and Eve.
God blessed them and told them to take dominion over all the earth and all things here.
      God gave them one warning:
Not to eat of the forbidden "fruit", else they would die that "day"
("One day to God is as one thousand years to man.")
Eve was tempted by a "serpent"; tempted TO disobey,
      tempted TO defy God's command,
tempted TO taste what appeared "good to eat" (was the serpent eating the "fruit"?) .
She did not fear the serpent/dragon.
The serpent did not threaten to harm her or her husband.
*By persuasion alone was Eve deceived to believe a lie.*
God cursed both Eve and Adam, the earth, and the serpent/dragon.
Evil, sin and death entered this world because of their disobedience.
Adam lost his dominion and the evil one took over.
      *But God.*
Not without a promise of Redemption for Eve and Adam's descendants to return unto God.
Who stipulated the required redemptive price of *innocent blood* ?
We are not privy to the laws and commands between the evil one and our Creator God, but the evil one knew there could NEVER hence be any man with *innocent* blood.
      So such was the price.
God promised there would be One to pay that ransom.
The evil one tried killing and mixing the "seed of the woman" to stop that Redeemer ("The sons of God [fallen angels] saw that the daughters of men were beautiful [compared to ??] and *took them and had offspring* ") . (Think Eve was an exception? She had already sinned.)
Cain, one interpretation, says "was the son of the evil one", killed Abel.
The pagan rulers had male Jewish children killed at least twice in Scripture.
What the evil one did not know, was that out of the *love* God has for man,
God chose to pay that price of *innocent* blood Himself,
and redeem us back to Him through a human form of Himself, Jesus *the Christ* ,
      not a mere "prophet".
      Islam claims:
      *GOD HAS NO SON.*
So, no, you are indeed wrong.
The Qu'ran completely denies mankind's need for redemption even though God established the sacrifice of innocent animals "with no defect" to be a temporary ATONEMENT for His people's sins.
The Qu'ran refuses to accept that an all powerful God CANNOT stoop so low as to sacrifice Himself for His *CHILDREN* .
And if there were no other differences between Christianity and Islam, that alone should wake you up to the *fact* that Christianity and Islam do
      *NOT* serve the same God.
Men make God in *their* image, and, therefore, believe He is too MASCULINE to sacrifice Himself for His creation.
They do not know all the attributes of God: *love* , *compassion* , *patience* , etc.
A MASCULINE God, in men's logic, would NOT save a human's tears, yet His Word says He does.
I leave you with one wisdom God's Holy Spirit gave me:
      Can God grow?
My reply: NO! God is all in all!
With different events that followed within a few years, I learned:
      God can grow.
      How, you ask?
      *CHILDREN* .
      Maranatha (He comes) !!!
