  • A customer in Denmark sent me three pairs of shoes to be serviced and repaired. The R.M.W:s were in really bad shape and needed gemming repair, soles, heel counters, back linings, elastics and a quite extensive upper repair of some major cracks in the leather.
    Price ended up exactly like a brand new pair. ca 500€ (5200 SEK), but the customer really wanted his shoes restored.

    I always got RM's work boots over the years. Other brands gave me blisters straight away. After doing bricklaying and concreting with neglect, they would last me about a year and then I'd buy another pair. When I went into office work the boots lasted me at least 12 years with being looked after and polished. I still have them somewhere. I might get them totally restored just for a spin. They are expensive now.

    For those that have owned and worn a pair of "RM's" products they would completely understand why a Dane would send a scrappy looking pair of boots that were made in Australia to a Swede to bring them back to their original glorious condition.
    Your work is exemplary. I wish you were closer to my part of the world.

    It would be next to impossible to find a boot repair shop with this kind of skill and expertise outside of a large city. Also the cost would rival the cost of a new pair.

    • @markywellsboy2182
      @markywellsboy2182 Před 4 měsíci +2

      If the shoes are of good quality, the repair cost won't rival the cost of a new replacement.
      Also, the model of shoe that you have may no longer be produced, so you are giving a new life to an old favourite.

      *It's completely ok to have shoes repaired. Cobblers do this for a living and it's great for them. I'm glad cobblers get business when they can, in a society who would rather throw away shoes than replace them. I know not everyone throws them away. It's nice being able to find a cobbler though! People have shoes that hold sentimental value too so it makes it worth it 😊!*

    Its actually cheaper to go to a trusted cobbler, utmost you pay for replacements like leather or rubber soles, french tips or new paints.. the labor cost is worth it if the cobbler is really skillful. Buying new leather shoes is still expensive and frustrating at times especially with brands trying to trick buyers with faux leathers. I'm trying to learn every trick to maintain my leather shoes, you will realise soon that there are things only a cobbler can do.

    • @davidsonsshoerepair
      @davidsonsshoerepair  Před rokem +14

      Well, the filling effect of the leather binder is limited as you can see on the end result. No point in a serious filling where the leather creases. But this binder reinforces the fibres in the leather and helps keeping the cracks closed. The sanding after, to open up the leather for the conditioning, is as important. With shoe trees and proper care these repairs should last a while. But sadly I've seen many of these repairs that I've done don't get the care they need, and the shoes back to bad shape much too soon. My guess is ten more years, but who knows. I hope he'll cherish them. I put a lot of hours on them.

    Sonuç; sizin yaptığınız tamirat, restorasyon değil ama güzel çalışma, başarılarınızın devamını dilerim, eleştirilerimi kendinize bir artı daha katmak için pozitif kullanırsınız umarım, iyi çalışmalar.

    • @davidsonsshoerepair
      @davidsonsshoerepair  Před 8 měsíci +7

      If the customer starts caring for them as he now should, they should last quite a long time still. They won't crack more, and with constant care the upper should stay in quite good shape for some time. Naturally I had a conversation with the customer about the probable remaining life span of the shoes, and I assume he understands that when he spends this kind of money on old shoes they need better care in the future. But I'm sure we also spoke about that. I can't remember the conversation today. I just know what I usually tell the customers.
