- Philippe is interested in how architecture can provide a glimpse into how people live all around the world. He travels to some of the most unique spots and culture on the planet to see what they have to offer. Today he is in Northern Iran in Masuleh, an area of lush landscape, unlike the desert climate most of the country offers. In this small village, the roofs are all interconnected to form pedestrian areas. Nest, Philippe heads to southern Louisiana to see the Bayou Country and how homeowners there have adapted to hurricane season.

I've been to Masuleh in 2018. It's beautiful and although is considered a very touristy place nowadays, and is flooded with internal tourists every weekend, during the week life is slow and sweet. People is very welcoming, and kind, and nice. We arrived and didn't have a place to sleep but through a fortunate coincidence we got in touch with a lady who had a little house to let in the high end of the village. The guy who led us to her also invited us to have a homemade dinner at his mum's house and it was great hospitality. He also accompanied us to see the amazing waterfall hidden in the surrounding woods. We had a very interesting conversation with a young guy who run a herbs shop and while we were there his uncle came down from the mountains bringing a load of fresh herbs to dry and sell. I even met a man who was taking care of some stray cats and he understood I was Italian so he started talking to me in Italian! He had lived in Italy for some time years prior and I could get that it was a bit of a bitter story so I didn't inquire much, but to meet someone who spoke my language in such a tiny place lost in the Iranian mountains was a very strange experience. I loved that village (btw it's so nostalgic to see in the doc all the same places I've been to...it's like I'm still there ❤), as I loved my whole visit through Iran, which is an amazing country that keeps on giving in terms of culture and landscapes...neverending wonders. Go visit Iran, you'll find beauty in every corner and beautiful people too. As an Italian I can say I felt at home.
They are profoundly aware of their political and social problems, but the majority of them are ashamed of it all and have enough freedom of mind to have learnt how to live in the cracks of the system to try and endure it having the best possible life. They deserve all the best and I hope they'll get there.
Amen!
I enjoyed reading about your experiences in Iran…..the kindness of people can be found everywhere
@@catherinehamer5653 they are people with great history, great culture, great knowledge and great pride therefore are people with a great soul. A crushed but resilient and brave one. I believe in the Iranian soul, it's a nation we should all very much respect.
Thank you for the beautiful story. I never thought of visiting Iran, but now my eyes are open to the possibilities. I love the people! So humble and warm.
👍🤗🥰
I hope they can continue to preserve this architecture and the village can attract more residents. It’s an amazing space.
What a beautiful, peaceful place, God bless Iran and Iranians.
This is what a community should be! ❤❤❤
What a delightful documentary. I was especially moved by the love the people in Masuleh have for their village, and the hospitality they seemed to have.
I love the idea of an entire town/village for pedestrians specifically 😊
Please fiorgive my 'chatty' comments, but I wanr5ed to add - this village is a Wonderful example of how people should be towards eachother ! It is a Beautiful concept and the people and culture are priceless ! Thank you for sharing,, as I would never be rich enough to visit thie Blessed place in my life time ! I pray the tourists Never Change this village !!
In a society free of media influence on youth, it would. But Todays youth?
I completely agree with you, and that wasn't a 'chatty comment '; you should read what I just left on another channel! Those people will hate me,! Lol
llu
3:38 I never realized that my lack of walking on roofs was the reason why I couldn't discuss with people about various things like the culture, economy, local business, etc
Yea the design plan of modern cities does not allow for people to discuss business or personal matters.
Shujaa in Swahili means "hero". I admire the communal living of Masuleh, watching from Kenya🇰🇪
Wakenya tuko kila mahali
Swahili was derived from arabic, iranians, afghans.pakistanis have some arabic dialect too in their languages, thats why u can understand some arabic terms.
and in Persian , in means Brave

What a cool place to live I wish everybody could live like that.
I love how this architecture engenders fellowship.
Most beautiful point of view!
Running water and sanitary system should be a challenge being on a mountain slope; I wonder how they solved it.
They are really happy, peaceful and united people ❤
Looks so heavenly. This example could inspire property developers for sustainable living with their natural environment
Very interesting as was the second documentary half way thru. It ought to be listed in the title. It deserves that honor as well. Thank you for sharing this.
A real treat. Thank you.
Roof streets such a wonderful concept... enhanced interaction space 💯
What an incredibly interesting town and lifestyle. In the UK in my twenties I worked with an Iranian man Bruce. He was a really nice guy and I always wanted to visit Iran, but never made it despite travelling widely. Age and health problems stop me now.
I wish all the worlds warmongering politicians would go away as I think Iran has a lot to offer the rest of the world.
Its very different from my expectations,Iran was a beautiful country hope to visit someday love from Philippines. 😊
The village is very beautiful. ❤️. Seems peaceful with lovely people
Masuleh is on my bucketlist now. Never imagined I'd want to go to Iran. The town is so quaint, old fashioned and the weather is mesmerizing. From the mountain/hill top in Old Masuleh its like walking above clouds. What I found very interesting is that a lot of the words of the Masuleh dialect are common between the Urdu language of India. "Deewar", 'Chashma' 'Mohalla' 'Baazaar' etc. I always thought Urdu was a mix of Arabic n Hindi but now I realize there are a lot of Persian words as well!
I love your videos n the bg music is amazing! You have very good taste in music!
I have a friend who travels with his wife half the year. No children. I asked him the friendliest country? Without a doubt he said Iran. We are Canadian
America lied to us
Iran only if you're not a Baha'i!
what did he say about philippines.?
Iran nicest people’s and cruel people too
Not if you’re Jewish or American.
So interesting to have an insight into a completely different way of life - thank you very much for all your hard work!

The place is so beautiful
Nice concept. Love it.
Catal huyuk in Turkey had all the streets on roofs and doors too were fitted on roofs than in walls with ladders for exit and entrance. And this the town architecture,8000 years ago.
Ce village fantastique ressemble à un gigantesque château.
Merci.
I'm surprised they don't have rooftop gardens
Ehh. Due to sun
This should be a Fundraiser for Lahaina Hawaii!!
Marvellous … peace be with the people of the earth 🙏🏼 … really interesting and yes, unique … much appreciated 👍🏼
Amazing village 🌸👍
Amazing place so out of my mind.
Very nice place . Marvelous engineering. I'm surprised there aren't more plants growing there. Flowers always make places nicer.
Climate?
Beautiful architech and place but i wonder how they keep the children safe from falling or the kids being raised in such an environment are already accustomed to safe use of the space and how to avoid dangee
Interesting, I'd like to go there 😉
Wow this is fantastic.
An amazing channel ever
Very nice documentary
What an amazing ancient former great Empire. It is full of treasures. Mashallah!
One of the residence here in the United States I resided at as a child had a flat back roof we walked and sat on. One cloud use steps from back of the house or enter on to the same roof with upstairs door.
Iran is such a beautiful country.
Great positivity 💯
While this may be the Only Existing villae of this type, both the ancient city of Çatalhüyük in present day Turkey and the palace of Knossos in Crete are Earlier examples if this type of village ( palace) pathway.
Wow! these documentaries are really well done!
Glad you enjoy them! Thanks for watching 🌍✨

Im a native, and that oyster man is clearly a grwat hearted man. He says he isnt an indian but deep down, his spirit is with the land, like every other person on planet earthh. Dont need to be a native to love mother earth
Interesting ❤
I would love to live in a pedestrian only city. I’m tired of cars and especially bikes taking over everything.
Sound needs to be improved. Overlap of two languages makes it difficult to comprehend otherwise beautiful video
Dans ce village, un bon oeui du rocher, surveille, pour pour une bonne entente entre les gens.
Same like place in oghi. Kpk PK existing.
I am from there it reminded my one
24:42 Absolutely adorable- Drama at the rooftop football/soccer game More than likely it'll all be forgotten in 10min or so Tomorrow at the latest
That cool
I would like to have one of those scarves
How are the restrooms? Who collects the trash? Lovely place, but it feels like not all the info was guven.
My thoughts too
This is what solar punk architecture should like, blending with the natural land scape ... An architecture that enhances Strong sense of community and walkable roads to have minimum waste
How many languages do you speak , incredibly !
Enjoy your series.
Beautiful and unique indeed, but I wonder about winter time when it freezes ? 🥶 Isn't it slippery?
Safest place to be no road accidents❤❤
Iran is such a pretty country. Its unfortunate that they can not open it up again to the whole world.
I always used to hang out on rooftops as a kid usually to get chased off by the police!😂, I've met many Iranian people n they were all lovely!😊✌️
Pudera! Onde é que estão as ruas, travessas, veredas e áleas em Masuleh? Com aquele declive... não há quase nenhumas!
👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌 Super
How about planting coconut ?It may grow near the water or seashore.
Masha Allah
Thanks for the video as I would not have known this. I do have a request that you pronounce Iran the way it is supposed to be.
