  • Part four in my D-0 droid build with SPECIAL GUEST !
    Based on Michael Baddeley's CAD designs! D-O is the new droid on the block in the Star Wars universe and I thought it would be fun to build one. Michael already had a design available that he kindly sent to me, but I'm making a few tweaks of my own, including upgraded servos, drive system and electronics! I hope to have the droid finished before The Rise Of Skywalker is released! (Materials/Parts/Printers listed below) There will be more information on the accompanying facebook page that will be hosted by myself and Lee Toweresy: / dobuilders

    Have you considered a build of D-O that is autonomous? With some Roomba-esque sensors and a slightly more detailed vocal profile it would be almost like the film version.

    • @benjamingiese5205

      My experience in robotics is only four years on a FIRST Robotics team, but I am considering building a model, with the hope that eventually it is autonomous and would respond to spoken words.

  • @samgentle
    @samgentle Před 4 lety +1

    Looking great! As far as the wobble, would it be feasible to damp it mechanically? Like with a slightly flexible coupling somewhere between the head and the servo?

    • @MattDenton
      @MattDenton  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes and no. It currently has an elastic ban that pre tensions the servo in one direction, but ultimately the best way to remove slop is just remove the slop! Eliminate backlash in everything...

  • @MattWinchell
    @MattWinchell Před 4 lety +1

    For parts that have little details and grooves like D-O's head, I really like using XTC-3D. It's a two part epoxy that you brush on & it sets over the gaps, making everything nice and glossy. You then hit it up with 320 grit and do the process one more time. For me personally, this has saved me so much time when sanding/painting BB-8's panels.
    Also for the painting process, I'm assuming you are going to weather the heck out of D-O, correct?
    Lastly, I am still having major issues getting the 1010's to do OTA. None of the libraries I found seem to work, even after firmware updates and internet setting changes.

    • @MattDenton
