‘I asked a Mullah (Priest), O Mullah! What do you think a Paradise might be? He put his hand on his stomach and replied, “fresh fruits and rivers of milk...”.
Sitting next to him was a Talib (student) reading/studying. I turned to him and asked, what do you think young man?
He closed his book and replied, “fair houris (women of paradise) and blue dots (the traditional blue tattoos worn by Pashtun/Afghan women on their faces)”.
A sheikh (elder) was standing by, holding beads in one hand and with the other playing with his beard. He jumped into the conversation and said “no no! It’s not like that, there will be beautiful “zulfan” (poetic reference to female hair) and heavenly flute sounds!

(Ghani is the pen name of the poet- khan Abdul Ghani khan but in the poem it could be referring to God as it is also one of the 99 names of God (the Generous))
Today, Ghani told me stories of paradise. He said in paradise there will be “houris” (fair virgins) and “ghilmand” (the unseen?).
There will be no hunger, no thirst and no grief nor any servants/slaves living under a “khan”(master/landlord).
I cried “wait Ghani! I want to ask a question. Will there be love in Paradise or just an empty body?”
Ghani gently smiled and replied, “yes! everyone will have their “janan” (beloved) next to them.
So O God you’re the janan (beloved) that I seek in Paradise!
(the poet doesn’t want everything else - the fruits, rivers of milk, beautiful women but to meet his Creator.

Ghani khan is an emotion. He became the voice of the voiceless or so called HOLY Class. Ghani khan showed how narrow minded people produce a very limited and less pleasurable utopian place.
